Good video, I've been making my own adapters for years also, I use 4pin microphones on everything, even on my old Yaesu 757GX.

Good advice for the novice. I actually make and sell these for most radios, with straight lead. A couple of suggestions so people don't fall into a trap. I too pretty much wire everything to 4 pin Uniden, but be aware of early Turner microphones where black is TX and the red is RX. Another important thing when it comes to 5 pin connections like on the Washington bases. If you have a power microphone with the extra switching, like a 6 wire Turner Plus Three B or Expander, or it could be an Astatic hand mic, dedicate them, or at least one, to 5 pin. Make an adapter for Uniden/ Cobra 5 pin MICROPHONE to Uniden/Cobra 4 pin RADIO for your other radios, not the other way round. So many people want it the other way round, and it's technically wrong which can cause complications. I mean, why have a mic with that extra switching and cable capabilities, and not utilise it?

@@390WagonMaster no worries, and before someone asks, it's technically wrong because most people short the audio shield and common switching pins on a 5 pin radio to suit 4 pin. The radio was designed to have these two grounds separate. As a further example, someone might be using a Turner Plus Three B wired for four pin with a 5 pin adapter to their Washo, which is pointless and a waste.

For quad5 cb radio just cut blue wire on pin4 out in a mic adapter in going use d104 mic.

I was looking up some straight mic cord, not the rolled. Was having a hard time finding like a 10ft run and make a few "pig tails" @ like 3 inches long. Nice 390!!!

great idea to just make our own. who knows if those adapters are soldered right to begin with? i never considered the bulkiness with 2 of my favorite radios that are side- mic. thank you for demonstrating.

Have you figured out how to make a 6 pin rci mic work on a 4 pin quad 5 yet, and retain the use of the channel buttons?

Cut out blue wire on pin4 in adapters it should work with 6pins it does work with 4pins.

@@foxman362 I didn't have to do that with this radio. My base mic is wired 6 pin because I set it up to use with my rci. It has channel buttons in it. I'm running it into a 6 to 4 pin adapter. Mic works fine but the channel buttons in my base mic dont change the channel on the quad 5.

My Cobra 1000 GTL base has a 4 prong male end mic input, my microphone has a 6 prong male end. Do they make an adapter for that? 🤠

You need something like this amzn.to/48AxlrA but reverse I think. Just do a internet search, that combination of 6 pin IN and 4 pin OUT might be hard to find. But you can make one up very easily.

@onMaster My apologies, I just looked at it again, the mic, Regency, Model DY21C, looks to have a 5 male pin with what looks like a female right in the center. Both the base and microphone have male pins. What that be an easier find? 🤠

I want an adapter from the RJ45 on my Anytone 5555-n2 to a 6 pin for the Uniden 906w wireless mic. Trying to figure the best way to make that work.

You can make it happen, it will however take some effort. I can't stand radios that use the J45 !!!!!

@@390WagonMaster thats the challenge. I do have a way of making the wireless mic work with my radio, so i'm in process of doing so. Maybe i'll make a video of that and share it out.
