After struggling to pass the CBEST math section so many times, I finally passed the test. I’ve used CBEST books and couldn’t pass. Once I watched your videos and took the next test I passed ! I love that these videos explain how to work out the problems ! I’ve referred several people to these videos !!!! Thank you so much !!!!
My worst subject is math. Failed the math section of the CBESt twice. Previously I only used the princeton review to study. Then, I used a combo of your videos and just briefly reviewed the princeton book. I also, took there practice test. I would say practice practice makes perfect. This video was number 1 for explaining well. And princeton book for a brief review of other items in the math section that you might come across. I passed with a 53
I took the CBEST twice and failed the math portion each time. Watching your videos helped me finally pass the math section on my third try! I really recommend anyone who is struggling to watch the whole series and do each problem alongside the instructor.
SO COOOL!!!! I've only went thru two questions in this video and I've also already concluded how this will help me for the CBEST! so awesome! Congrats!
Danielle Alford oooh cool to know these vids actually help! Congrats! I'm planning to take mine sometime in July since I haven't been studying this June lol
WARNING!! Please be aware that if you decide to take the online computer test through Pearson (instead of driving to a physical location), you will not be allowed to use pencil or paper to solve math problems!! They want to to somehow use an online “Scratch Pad” and key in your math, diagrams, and analysis in their little window. How in the world are you suppose to do long multiplication or division in this cryptic manner? Math in your head? Really? I aborted the test after question 2, after a lot of back and forth with the proctor, since this is like trying to paint a without a paint brush. I guess they assume you will cheat if you have a pencil and blank piece of paper. Signed, A guy with a PhD in Chemistry just looking to teach some science.
I'm in the same situation. I passed the reading and writing portion on the first attempt, but have failed the math portion twice! I only studied the practice questions on their website and only missed 4 questions on the final time I took the test, so I felt beyond prepared. But, that still didn't help me. Some advise for people taking the math test, there are a lot of percentage, decimal, and fraction problems. The word problems on the CBEST are tricky, so pay close attention. Here is an example of an actual question on the CBEST, I stared at it for 20 minutes trying to figure it out lol "Six more than four times a number is forty-two" Then there are options for you to pick from. I know the answer now, but I got it wrong on the test. I'm going to buy the Cliffnotes book to better prepare myself for my next attempt. Don't listen to the people who say it's an easy test and you should pass the first time. Not true, only 68% of people pass the math portion on the first attempt. Some of us have been out of school for a very long time, and math is a subject that needs to be applied routinely, or you will forget basic arithmetic.
@@aliciaguerrero6149 Hi, sorry for the late reply. I didn't use any study guide the first time I took the CBEST. I took all three categories in one sitting. The reading portion is fairly simple. Focus on paragraph structure. Look for the topic sentence, supporting details, and the concluding sentence. Once you're able to decipher the difference, then you will be prepared for the reading section. The reading portion pretty much gives you a paragraph to read, and then find the topic sentence, supporting detail, or the concluding sentence. The writing section is a bit more difficult. You will be given multiple topics to write about. You will have to choose two topics and form two different essays. Don't be overwhelmed, I only wrote basic essays format on both of my topics. I wrote the typical 5 paragraph essay, which included my introduction and thesis, three supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
Watching these videos immensely helped me understand some of the sections I had trouble with. First time I took CBEST I failed the math section by two points, just took it again and not only did I pass but I improved my score by 20 points!
I was surprised to find errors in a few How To Pass CBEST books I checked out from the library. The example Math Test you are using is the one supplied by the testing company and the only one they recommend. This test is so much easier that the ones I found in books. I got a high score (92%) by pausing your videos to take the time to work out the correct answers myself. Although I was pleasantly surprised that I got most answer choices correct I enjoyed hearing your explanations which made me think of different ways to solve them. I really appreciate your videos. Thank you for serving math in this way.
on the pdf version practice make sure you fix the question number 1 because the answer is 36 and its not giving that option. the number in the pdf should be 34 not 31. I believe it's a typo.
Hello, did you do your math portion of the test yet? Wondering if you did; was it anything like the practice test?? I plan to take mine next week and I stink at math too :(
Yesenia Ortega haha I haven’t passed it. The principles are pretty much the same as this. U can find the practice test on the cbest website. Did u take it yet?
I just took my cbest today after watching these videos. The questions were almost identical. However, I completely blanked. How do I remember the formulas?
Thank you for this presentation. It was very helpful. Mathematics is my favorite subject but I have always had a hard time with testing. I can teach a class or individual, but when the test is in front me my mind goes into a what Lupus patients call "brain fog". Pretty amazing... Going for my 4th time! Each time I get better, hopefully this time I get better with a pass! Thanks again!
Sure, When you add the top and bottom widths you have w+w=2w, when you add the left and right lengths you have l+l=2l. When you combine the measures all around you have 2w+2l.
You are a blessing. I have been studying using the cliffsnotes book. But these videos are perfect!! I am a visual type of girl, this is exactly what I needed. I appreciate you. I plan to take my math test next Thursday. This makes me happy. Thank you, Thank you.
Thank you for putting on these videos! It helped me pass the math section. Similar to others, you explained it well and it also made me think of other ways to solve the problems!
Watched the video and I tried to review as well as answer the questions before you reveal the answer and I got all the answers correctly. I'm confident I can pass this exam hehe
I just finished watching your videos fro practice problems 1-50! I did about 5 problems each day, so I wouldn't overwhelm myself. Thank you so much for your help! I'm super bad at math and was scared on how to prep for the CBEST exam I have scheduled for June 15th! You're videos and explanations helped sharpen my math skills. Thank you again!
California finally passed a law that eliminates the CBEST requirement if you have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution!!!!! Gavin newson finally did something right. 😂And I just failed my math test Saturday and was bummed. I got a gift😂
After failing the math praxis twice, I feel more confident taking the math CBEST, after reviewing your videos! Thanks for providing thorough explanations to each problem. You've showed me how to answer several problems multiple ways.
Thank you for the videos - these are very helpful! On question #3 you start counting at the 1 and you go all the way to 6 but why do you only count it as 5? I kept rewinding the video and it looks like you skipped a number when counting. Can you explain?
Oh sure! I was counting the distance. If I were to start from 0 then you will have six units counting from 0. But this problem is tricky. The counting starts from 1 that is why it takes you 5 units to get to six. Does that make sense?
maths gotserved omg this is soooo helpful!!!!!!! I was so confused and now that makes perfect sense when thinking about units !!!!! Sooo thankful for you !!
I found his mathematical explanations to be complicated at first.... So happy to understand the math on my own but seeing other ways of how to receive the same correct answer was pretty helpful! Thank you.
You did a wonderful job... so many people trying to make the cbest seem harder than it is so they can scare people into paying for training. This was a great refresher on a couple of key items I forgot. Thank you so much for your contribution!
hi keeley im going to take my test soon. can you give me some tips. should i follow all these videos and the practice problems on the website? give me your tips please
@@DemonicEmbrace yes I say follow the videos and do the practice problems on the website. Check out the cbest website and practice on there too that’s what I used too. Study consistently but don’t stress to much about it you can do it. I passed it and I’m horrible at math 😂
I watched all the videos and I thought they were all really great and helpful. Also, I had a question for question 5 where did you get 12 to divide by 256 I'm a little confused by that?
Great question. I am using the units of the measures to govern the creation of the proportions. In #8, number of boxes are in the numerator position and x represents the number of boxes in 30 days that is why it is in the numerator position. However in number 9, x represents time and the time values known or unknown are in the denominator.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't #10 23/52? She has 15 red marbles, but you put 14 red marbles. Just want to clarify because I'm going crazy on this!
he put 14 because the question tells us that lily had pulled one red one already! I was stuck on this for a second but then i understood. i hope this helps!
