I think Cecilia's success is due in part to the fact that the voice really SPEAKS and you hear her and her individuality. She is unique. She's not just singing. She's a breathing, musical actress. Plus her tone is brilliant and bell-like.

This aria and this incredible performance reminds me of the uniqueness of Rossini: nicknamed "Il Tedeschino" (the "little German") for his devotion to Mozart and Haydn, Rossini is a contemporary of Paganini and as such he manages to perfectly combine a thickness of music texture which is unusual for most opera composers, with a special taste for virtuoso music writing. Cecilia Bartoli is simply perfect here, in her unique ability to combine voice agility, breath control and stage presence. It is rather obvious (as it is baseless) the remark that Cecilia is "too perfect" and as such less appealing than other "more imperfect" voices. Same comment made about other virtuoso masters like (just to remain with Paganini) Shlomo Mintz. Nonsense. Cecilia Bartoli in this execution is pure beauty, just... defiant in her awareness of being unique and above other interpreters. You can just love her.
I remember seeing this on T.V when I was a little girl. I fell in absolute love with Cecila Bartoli. I made my mother buy me the tape, but it was ruined in the beginning. She wanted to return it and I cried my eyes out until she had my uncle splice it for me, lol. I was only about 5 or so, I think.
I've always thought that Cecilia was brilliant, but this is just breath-taking. If I ever get to see her live, it will be an absolute honour. Fantastic!

Cecilia knows no peers, argue as you will. Not for nothing is she known as the queen of agility. Her facial expressions make her a joy to watch. Never have I seen such a skilled performer who exhibited so much pleasure at singing. I so agree. Brava Cecilia! Encore!
I so hope that they put this broadcast out on DVD. Everyone was simply perfect, and the production was super fun! Ramon rocked as much as Cecilia, who must be the best Cenerentola ever. And what a great orchestral support from Maestro Levine! That last scene is just too cute!!!

I've watched a few other versions of this aria, and none even come close to this performance. I can't even bear to listen to this aria unless Bartoli is singing it.
Agreed!!! The coloraturo style from another singer sound very weak and subtle and it's not so fun to listen to it. And yes, she is the best one to sing this song. :)

This is the beginning of her great period. Before this she was one of the best, from this point and forward she´s the best. And that´s because of her way to sing, to use her body not only her technique. She is a living phenomena!!!

She is amazing. Such a lovable, spirited performer. As for the aspirated coloratura, Bartoli is a serious scholar of the music of this period, so she must know if this is in line with what that period/style required. She a scholar, studies her the background of her music (not just the notes); she's not just soundbox like some contemporary divas

Realmente escucho a Cecilia en non piu mesta, y cada vez me gusta mas.....me gusto mucho la version de Tuba Semmingsen...pero Cecilia no se queda atras, impecable, brillante,.....centellante,....Entre el genio de Rossini, y la actuacion de Cecilia, me saco el sombrero y desde mis viceras prorrumpo en ''Magistral, arrebatador...hasta las estrellas....''

I don't care what her critics say.....she can aspirate all she likes if she continues to sing like this. I don't know anyone who can sing such arias and give me goosebumps like she does. I love others doing this too, but to me she generates an excitement that is hard to beat.
