I met my neighbor, as a kid, who flew 35 missions as a Captain in 2 different B-17s. Never lost a plane or crew member. First plane was so badly damaged after his 17th mission he got a replacement. Had no idea what happened to the first plane. One award was Distinguished Flying Cross. Never flew a plane after the war. Worked for a paper company until he retired. I new him into his 90s.

The footage of the taxiing Constellation, was of the Historic Aircraft Restoration Society's "Connie." They're based in Albion Park, Australia. They don't get enough of a mention in videos like this and deserve more praise - they've kept Connie not only continuously "airworthy" but actually FLYING since rescuing it from the Boneyard in 1994 and flying it to Australia in 1996.

It's Good to see Dego Red back in Chino! Back when the Dego Red Race Team used Chino Airport as a test drag strip to test their world record breaking dragster, they also flew their world record breaking P-51 from Chino in the 80s. Pappy (Gregory) Boyington is a relative of mine. I am also a U.S.Marine Vet. My grandfather, dad, and I all flew there. The last timeni saw that B-17 it was a fuselage laying on the ground. Flo's Cafe has the best biscuits and gravy. Thank you for taking me down memory lane Jimmy.

I visited Planes of Fame about 35 years ago now! Even then it was the most interesting aircraft museum I had visited. Amazing collection of axis aircraft as well - was particularly interesting to see a Zero, Raiden, ME-262, ME-163 (rocket powered fighter) and HE-162.

I always love to see old footage of my cousins the Wright Brothers ! They are my cousins from my dad's side of the family. However, the Father Of the Air Force William Billy Mitchell is my cousin from my Mother's side of the family. The Wright Brothers built the plane and Mitchell showed how to fly it properly ! Pretty Cool if you ask me ! Made for some awesome reports in school growing up.

Visiting Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills on the NC Outer Banks (OBX) is awesome. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is a suitable tribute to the first flight and efforts of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Airport is: KFFA (First Flight Airport). Many NC automotive license plates show: "First In Flight."

Hey Jimmy, The first person to actually make alerons was GLEN CURTISS, who is also the first person to fly a mile which occurred at Hammondsport New York. The Wright Brothers were patent trolls who tried to sue Glen Curtiss for infringement on their "wing warp" idea. Henry Ford gave Glen Curtiss the money to fight the Wright Brothers in court. If in your travels you are ever at Keuka Lake in the middle of New York state, at the southern end of the lake is Hammondsport where there is also the Glen Curtiss museum. He too started life as a bicycle and then motorcycle inventor making one, two, and three cylinder "V" formation motorcycles. He also built an aircooled V8 motorcycle that in 1903 set the world record for speed of anything period of 136 MPH on Daytona Beach. That V8 motorcycle sits right next to the cash register as you enter the museum. It is worth the visit. I used to live not too far away from there, spent 33 years of my life in Jacksonville Florida working on VWs and Alfa Romeo. Recently I moved much closer to you at Lake Panasoffkee, 50 miles north of you. I enjoy seeing your exploits as I have built dune buggies, hydroplanes, and I have 5 Honda motorcycles...just an old tired auto mechanic, now 75 years old

Very nice DH98 Mosquito at 1:02:34 Quite rare birds as there's less than 7 flying in the world (all restorations), but I have to mention at 1:04:09 WA591 The Gloster Meteor T7! That was a Gate Guard at RAF Woodvale until 1993, after a long restoration and flight it returned there in 2012 for the Southport Airshow, I have a very rare photo of it pulling Rainbow vapour due to the moisture/humidity in the air!

Jimmy, you should take a trip to the UK and visit the War Museum at Duxford that has three hangers full of vintage A/C. Every day in the Summer you’ll see Spitfires, Hurricanes, P36’s, P40’s, P47’s, Mustang’s, Catalina’s, B17’s, a Corsair, Bearcat and Electra plus many more including some early jets like the Vampire and Strikemaster. Just an hour down the road is the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden. There we have the most amazing collection of 1st War aircraft some original, some pre-1st War A/C many original, pre 2nd War A/C including the racers and cup winners and a number of 2nd War A/C all original. Every A/C has a drip tray under the engine and all are in flying condition. They host the most amazing evenings throughout the Summer displaying these national treasures and the pilots will talk to the visitors before and after their flights to answer questions and provide information on their particular A/C.

Just for your information, the Dwight Eisenhower constellation is called Columbine 2 Also known as the original air force one It is privately owned and Is the only Air Force one to be privately owned all others are in museums. as of 5 years ago it was flying they flew it from Arizona to Bridgewater. Virginia, where dynamic aviation is doing a full restoration on it and bringing it back to its original interior from when Dwight Eisenhower flew in it there is a video on Erik Johnston RU-vid channel About them getting it running in Arizona. After setting for a while and flying it first to texas And then on to Bridgewater, Virginia, where the full restoration is currently happening.

My grandfather who helped raise me to be the man i am today used to take me to see the Corsair surrounded by a small chain link fence... he was very proud of this plane despite the difficulty the plane had on handling during take off and landings from flight decks on aircraft carriers it has amazing power ... powered by the Wasp engine my grandfather served as a Marine in the Korean war as well it was an awesome thing to do with my grandfather he would not only take me to see a piece of Great american technology and history he would also take me to this place to get a burger with him and literally the plane was within a few feet away from the establishment it was a geeat time good memories and i thank him for getting me into aircraft and still inspires me to get my pilot license one day RIP granpa Harold ❤

29:47 And to further the connections with Marilyn Monroe, the "Norma Jean" mentioned in Elton John's song "Candle in the Wind" is also a reference to Marilyn Monroe long before Princess Di was a Princess. Funny how they didn't accuse Marilyn of "building model airplanes" or "knowing Ronald Reagan". Reginald Denny and his Radio Plane "Target Drone" and his Dennymite engines were well known among us old timers. My dad's first Model Airplane engine was a .37ci Dennymite Gasoline, Spark Plug engine.

I think they have that same Wee Willy P51 and Strega in Microsoft Flight Sim along with a bunch of other Reno racers. They have a whole Reno Racing mode in MS Flight Sim and I built a pretty good flight rig for my Xbox X. I just need a graphics card for my PC along with other stuff nd some good VR headset and I'll be set man. Now I'ma go fly a P51 or my F51 Voodoo in msfs lol. What great stories to go with all those planes, the museum guide guy is very very knowledgeable, but I wonder if he works on stuff too. Excellent vid Jimbo. Lol Your soo lucky Jimmy, I've been building customizing fabricating wiring and working on cars/Xboxes/PCs nd much more for about 20 yrs but I wanna start working on planes but I need to get my pilots license too. I never knew that the reno racers have fuel on one wing and water in the other cause theyre banking left pretty much the whole time. Maybe thats why the reno p51s that i fly in msfs wanna just roll left on their own even while the throttle is cut so its def not prop torque steer or whatever the proper terminology is for that. Great vid man as usual. I wanna see u fix or fly a beechcraft baron or a Cessna 410 or 412 or a king air or somethin, i wanna see you do some powerful twin prop plane, or i wanna see you customize some plane, like add power or reinforce airframe or somethin

I got to sit in it at an airshow in Madison, WI. back in '2001 I think it was. Never got in one in Arizona but, I pulled myself up in the bottom hatch and looked around. I was young and had never been around planes and that beheamoth scared me at the time. I just dropped back out and was content to see them from the ground. lol! I helped overhaul the props on 2 of the B17's and they were sent off to Georga to fight fires. Had a 800gal watae tank in the bellies of them. The first one they finished the tested there and called us at the prop shop and told us to go out and watch. One runway at the time and had orange groves at both ends. It brushed the treetops with the gear but, made it. I think thay re-thought the tank sizes on them after that. We got to watch the two take off for Georgia and that evening just before quiting time we got a call from the main hanger and they said one of the props went in to overspeed. Didn't sleep a wink that night. Next day they called again and had found out it was the shaft, not the prop. I still feel the relief we felt then. Fright too! Cheers!
