Your "whew" says it all. The Creamback nails it. Much better response overall. The Eminence sounds midrangey and muddy. I'm looking for a replacement speaker for my own USA Blues Deluxe after blowing the original Eminence which I really used to love, but I think the CB will do. Your demo came in handy. Thanks!

Great tones, Shane. I've never heard a Blues Deluxe sound so good. The Creamback sounds so boutique. The Eminence seems to capture the essence of an American sound, kind of rawer. I definitely prefer the balance and harmonic overtones from the Creamback. It sounds more alive and detailed, but the Eminence sounds good too. Nice playing! I've been searching for vids comparing clean tones on 12" speakers and you're nailing that.

Thanks for the very good demo featuring creamback 65 ( too much over drive for me on most vids using them). I like the creamback better for its increased low/mids while retaining articulate highs. Stands out with dimension a little better, IMO.

Hi there. Well I liked both of them actually. But one of them got me moore hooked. The creamback. It had that clarity more sound from the string that I like so much. The swamp thang is also nice but a bit more closed I think. So I think a creamback would do the thing in my amp. All the best and thanks for a great test.

Found this vid as I was researching what speakers I want to put in my 2x12 cab. The Swamp Thang has that Texas Blues sound nailed when playing the neck pickup. It's exactly the sound I'm looking for. However, the Celestion handles the bridge tones with a level of clarity that is unmatched. As always, it's a trade-off. Both are fantastic speakers and it really depends on your use case. I think I'm going to wind up putting a Texas Heat and a Swamp thang in my 2x12 as I loved the sound of them together in your other demo. The 65w RMS rating for the Celestion is a pretty big difference from the 150w on the eminences as well. Might be a big deal for some depending on the application.

Late to this party. Thanks for great comparison. To my ears the cream back is a little softer at the edges in a good way. Swamp thing has a harder cleaner sound. This is what I'm thinking. I've got an old Laney VC30 and a matching cab. Was going to stick an Eminence in the cab and then cut down the amp to just a head (getting too old for lugging these back-breaking things around). But now I'm thinking maybe a Celestion Neo in the amp would give me the best of both worlds (and make it lighter). Hmm… Just wish I had more money. By the way, I know what you mean about the Soul Food (although I'm a Crayon man myself), but have you heard the MXR mini booster (with the built EchoPlex)? Oh man, it makes an amp sing!

Swamp Thang has its uses, definitely, like the Cannabis Rex, but the Creamback is alone in a class by itself. The Swamp thing has kind of a V30-like tone to me, which mixes well with dark speakers or dark amps, like T75's and Bogners, respectively. The Creamback just holds its own with all gain levels and breaks up without being harsh or woofy. It really lives up to its name in that it's smooth, creamy-sounding.

If I understand correctly, the Creamback is 75 watts, and the Eminence speaker is 150 watts, and therefore the Eminence will naturally sound cleaner and less full with the volume and EQ at the exact same setting, correct? If so, then it stands to reason that in order to get the Eminence to sound its best you would need to push them harder, or am I mistaken? The Creamback sounded better to me, but I'm just wondering if the wattage difference is throwing things off due to the settings being the same on the amps.
@intheblues
@intheblues 7 лет назад
Wattage makes no difference to clean headroom in some cases. You want to find the max dB of speakers to find out which one is louder but that doesn't always account for clean headroom except in this case where the Swamp Thang is a known clean speaker. The Texas Heat for example is 150 watts RMS but breaks up really early too. :-)

You know Shane...I have both of these speakers. And a few more. Fender does design its amp speakers to the its overall frequencies. But in the BDR, the stock speaker is way to high freq. Nails on the chalk board too high. But when I put the Swamp Thang in the BDR I lose all the Fender Sparkle. Its pretty flat. Great for certain overall genres and leads. And darn sure efficient with DB gain. But no way to get back that Fender Sparkle on Cleans. The Creme Back comes with efficiency DB gain and the ability to keep that Fender Sparkle. And of course all this is relative to V1. I keep the Celestion CB in the DBR. I put the ST in a Bass Breaker ext spr cab. And its around for a plug in for studio work when needed. And sometimes it is very needed. I really appreciate your precise break down on various equipment. Its very useful for working guitarists. But we both know no one is going to attain your top shelp quality sound regardless. As you will no doubt agree, 60% of sound and quality is in the Hands!!! I first noticed this way back in the studios. You can hand your fully tuned guitar of your use to another guitarist and it will not be in tune. Or visa versa. This can really bite you when sitting in. Its all in the Master's touch. Which you certainly have. DGA

@@intheblues I tell you what Shane. I put the ST in my Bassbreaker 15 and it came to a different life. The amp can be very shrill. The ST tamed it where the Stock and Creme Back would not. Of course the volume went up due to efficiency and sound mellowed out. The CV Fender used is just another slight speaker used for costs. There are too many speaker frames now with the Celestion Label slapped on.
