Celestion G12-t75 Vs Alnico Ruby is a not a very common Celestion speaker mix but as far as guitar speakers go, it should be. In this shootout we look at how the two speaker act together and directly against each other in several different situations.
The Celestion G12-t75 (T75) is more commonly known as the stock Marshall 4x12 speaker since the mid 80s. It can get a bad wrap, but we don't think it deserves that.
To do this we recorded both speakers in an identical 1x12 setup, same mics, mic placements, amps and settings by re-amping the same scenario through several different styles.
We love to hear your thoughts on anything speaker related, if you've used this pair before or the individual speakers, or if you have any suggestions please get in touch.

Speaker and cab-type are the most influent part of the electric guitar chain. Nice job, as usual.

I agree, and to anyone they should be at least considered as a major part.. people will come round to it though..... actually guitarist comes first, but that's just be being picky haha. Thanks as always for watching.

I think I've got all the hatred out of my system. The 75 still sounds like a fizzfest to me but I think I can move on and be a better person now. Thanks Paul! I appreciate your work. It almost seems like the T-75 is meant to be blended. It always sounds horrid to me by itself but YOUR blends always sound nice.

hahaha I'm glad I helped. I;ve actually been finding that the ruby is a bit like that too. I really wasn;t that impressed by itself but I;m starting to hear some really cool mixes. Thanks as always.

very interesting...my H1tv has an uncontrollable hi end a lot of the time...the ruby seems like it may be what I need to roll the highs back so I can actually use them in the eq section...very interesting

I like the Ruby’s warm darkness. Very nice even for metal. Dang son!

Ive always loved the 75 mixed.. it's a great foil to almost every Celestion I've mixed it with.. I do notice a grit here, my "well broke in" 1990 English made one (also in an oversized 1x12) doesn't seem to really noticably exhibit?? Did I miss the "compared to 21 other speakers" demo of it??

Thanks for watching in such detail. I think your 90s spaeker may have been better broken in, this was a relatively new speaker so still had plenty of opportunity to soften up... my 90s T75s are the same as your by the sounds of things. I have a 21 speakers vs the T75 to put up, we'll be doing that this week. Thanks again for watching.

I wonder why the fizz on g12t75s is so much more pronounced when using dirty tones, in the cleans you cant hear it at all, why is that?
@linguafranca86

Low end is a little less full on the Ruby and the ruby doesn't have the annoying high fizzly frequencies. I guess around 5Khz

You guys manage to make them both sound good. I don’t know what Celestion were thinking with the ruby. I know they were thinking cheap OEM hole filler with the 75. But the ruby... Why deliberately choke off high frequencies? People have tone knobs and treble knobs. Even presence knobs. If your amplifier has horrible treble… Redesign it.
@georgefromgreece4119

Tone IS presence, in guitar gear. And the Ruby is Celestion's alnico fullest in the low harmonics, so it holds its place nicely.
