The Celestion G12T-75 is one of the most used guitar speaker is existence, largely due to it being Marshall's go to speaker for over thirty years. In this shootout we also have the Neo Creamback is maybe not at well known but starting to get a real reputation for being a great replacement speaker, not only for its weight saving but for its tonal versatility. Here we set the two speakers against each other and later look at how well they mix together.
To do this we recorded both speakers in an identical 1x12 setup, same mics, mic placements, amps and settings by re-amping the same scenario through several different styles.
We love to hear your thoughts on anything speaker related, if you've used this pair before or the individual speakers, or if you have any suggestions please get in touch.

You'll like one of the videos we have planned then..... a bunch of G12T-75s through loads of different amps and styles. Thanks for watching.

Ive had tons of various Celestions but I always end up switching back to the G1275. In fact the cream in my zilla cab now is getting swapped for my trusty g1275

Sounds great! I’d love to hear the GK100 mixed with the Alnico Cream, on paper it could be a cool vintage/modern mix

That would be an interesting mix. We didn't do that in this round of testing but I want to do a massive sound bank soon and it will definitely be in with those. Thanks for watching.

I mixed a G12T-75 and a Neo Creamback in a cab once and it made me realize I needed two seperate cabs. The Neo is the perfect clean speaker for me Sound-wise but it's lacking power handling, I don't like early speaker breakup. I haven't figured out my favorite dirty speaker yet, maybe a EVM12LBL or an Organic Timbre. But they do mix really well, just not the tone I was going for.
@ZillaCabs
@ZillaCabs 3 года назад
That is interesting, I've haven't really found the neo cream to break up that early. Did you use both cabs together? The EV's and Organic Timbre speakers are really nice.... not much break up there at all. Thanks for watching.

@@ZillaCabs I had a single 2x12 cab with the G12 and Neo with a 200w amp. I felt I needed dedicated cabs for the tones I was going for and up the power handling so I wouldn't blow anything. The mix of those two speakers is very good. The bite of the G12 and smoothness of the Neo. And the Neo fills in and rounds out the mids of the G12. I don't currently have the money to build the perfect setup for me yet but I have a good Idea of what I would like to have. Unfortunately part of it would consist of a medium 4x12 with the Neos to get the power handling up to 240w and made out of 1" marine grade void-free 13ply.

@@DunderHead.5000 ah OK, 200 watts from an amp can be quite scary with a 2x12. If you get the chance to play a redback give it a shot. For me they kind of sit between more traditional guitar/celestion speakers and EVs.

@@ZillaCabs I was going to run my dirty speakers in my G-Flex 2X12 (not the cab I mixed the G12 and Neo in) and was thinking with the RF of the cab at somewhere around 55Hz the EVM's would be better since they are around that frequency but also people say they are bullet proof (although you can blow them). Not sure if the RedBack would hold up. It has a high power rating but Celestion says not use their speakers in ported cabs and all their speakers say they have an RF of 75Hz.

Such great videos you guys have. I used to not like t75's but i've grown to like them lately. They are just a bit different to many Celestions. I think that often people don't know how to dial them up. Also that they need to be miced a bit differently due to the large dust cap. It is true that they are not for every situation or for every one nyt when they work they sound great. Ask a guy called Satch if he likes them?

the g75 has a more closed and nasal sound but goes well with the marshall tone. The Creamback is more crystalline on clean but to fuzzy on distortion. This is just my opinion.

To be honest they are better than their reputation. With emerging of new boutique speakers people started disliking old types and labeling Neo speakers as compromise. But they have sound of their own and it is not that bad as people talk about them. Not the best sounding speakers but definitely not awful. I think they sound quite good together. My first contact with G12T-75's was in the time I was in my heavy phase. 1960 cabs, high gain amps, pointy guitars :) Loud Marshall 4x12 was the thing. I thought they sounded awesome. Well it was late 80's and beginning of 90's time and I was very young, give me a break :) Some 20 years ago I got 1960B from 1971 loaded with 1995 or might be 1985 G12T-75 speakers. Initially it was the huge disappointment. No lows and no tome until you reach high levels. Thought out of phase speakers or loose cab. But it turned out amps I have owned at that time were the reason. I thought of changing speakers so many times but was afraid it would not help. Once I have used JTM-45, I have built, with that 1960B everything changed. Tone was sublime and there was this beautiful low end at almost every volume level. They have sounded so much better than most 1960 cabs I have played before. So I have never changed them. I find them awesome sounding. Classic Marshall sound. Not most refined but typical Marshall sound. At some moment I have heard brand new 1960 cab with G12T-75 and it sounded harsh. More nasal midds and sharp. Was not that pleasant to be honest. Possibly good with some other type of music but not what I like nowadays. I bet broken in they sound bit better. Not sure are mine UK built and this others were not. That could be an issue while some China built Celestions do not sound like same old UK built speakers. Anyhow I have learned to love my set of G12T-75 speakers. Regarding to Neo Creamback I was pleasantly surprised when I have heard them with good amp. Before that I have heard them in the store and on RU-vid. Sounded bit to buzzy. Bit to sharp and lacking resolution and warmth. Very good friend of mine, and great musician, got some generic built 2x12 with those inside. When I heard he got them I was like man with your amps you have to change the speakers. Then I have visited him and he played 3 different amps with it. Man it sounded very very good. They sounded acceptable even with boutique amps. Played the same amp with Bartel's 1x12 with 8 Ohm Creamback and that was one of the best sounds I have ever heard. Everything was there and it was musical. Better than Neo's but for that price they have to be. Never the less Neo Creambaks are not bad, not bad at all. Plus they will save your back. Bad speakers and bad cabinets will ruin sound of the great gear. Great speakers will show what gear has in it. That is if the cabinet is built properly. All Zilla cabs I have heard were great. Last one I have heard was the purple 2x12 you have built for Dutch guy :) He has Cream Alnico and G12-65 in it. Crazy combination but awesome. Pity that UK has left EU. I wanted to make cabinets for my amps and speaker cabs at Zilla. Now it is kinda complicated and it reflects in price to.

So what I really like is that you guys pair different speaker's together as well as side bye side, but looking through your video's I've not seen anything with a mesa boogie vintage black shadow, I'm wanting to add an exstenion cab to my DC2. I use this amp for small clubs. Not sure what speakers will pare well with it,or should I just get another black shadow. Most of our music is classic rock, no real high gain stuff? Any suggestions would be appreciated

The T75s aren't that bad, but they really lose to the Neo Creamback once the distorted sounds kick in. There's something about those scooped mids that I don't really enjoy. Thanks!

Yeah I do hear you there, it isn't my go to speaker but I do think for a lot of styles it is very useable. I think lower gain and blended with a smoother speaker is where it really works. Thanks for watching.

The 75 gets too much hate, especially the Chinese version. I like the neo creamback but for heavier stuff I Iike the T75 much better. In a recording session I would mix both with the neo creamback at 20% just to have some extra mids and clarity if needed.

You are right, the T75 is a great speaker, maybe not for everyone but still a good solid speaker and definitely not deserving of the hate it gets. Thanks for watching.

The T75 sounds too scooped and the Neo Creamback sounds a little fizzy in the upper mids and highs to me, which is funny because people say the T75 has a fizzy high end with all the mids scooped out.

@@davidhovey5152 I feel you bro, thing is the cheap non brand 16ohm speakers I have on my 4x12 now already sound to much like the Chinese and I’m looking for the little more darker not so much mid high end like the Chinese do. I can totally see how the Chinese sound amazing in different applications and by no means think they suck but just not really helping the tone I’m trying to get. Then again like you said it’s all subjective and I hope I don’t regret returning the Chinese ones I got yesterday. I plan to buy the UK made from Mesa this weekend. Thank you for your input buddy.
