Celestion Vintage 30 and Greenback Speakers in 2x12 and 4x12 Cabinet 

With playing like that who cares what the speakers are, hell you could probably play through a coffee filter and it would sound pretty damn good, that was some awesome playing man.

Those greenies really bring out the "Brittish"tone ...they really bite the mids ..But I would have to say that the 212 v30s had an amazing tone ..obviously more headroom ..I like that for a 212 it has a little more bottom end but still really tightly defined..I have a baltic 412 with v30s and its a tone monster...great playing dude!!nice comparison!!

Vintage 30s always sound thin and spiky to me with a clean amp. Then you drive it and it is the tightest and clearest speaker there is.

Sht this greenback speakers with overdrive sounds crazy! I have 2*12 palmer closed back cab with v30+ G12H-30. I really dont understand how closed back cabs should sound because the sound is focused in very front of the cab, even if you are standing ( not sitting) in front of the cab it cuts high and mid frequencies. Recording with mic it does not matter but it is quite weird sounding when you walking arond, slightly better when you play on clean or overdrive and terrible on highgain. First thing I did, I put cab around 40-50cm higher it helped little bit, but still sounded muddy when standing not in front. So finaly I put it vertically first with v30 up, then othervise..and finaly it sounds how in my oppinion it shoul sound! G12H-30 nicely cuts in space you can walk around an sound is still bright on highgain! It is a bit more bass than I want and sound not much compressed but much better than in horizontal position. It is kind a feeling when you play in front of 4*12. Maybe Andreas or anybody did any cuts in closed cab back and did it helped to prevent blanket effect? I would like to build custom 2*12 vertical cab with changhing open/semi-open/closed back options. =D

Thinking of getting a 4x12 but the 2x12 sounds better to me. I think straight cabinets sound better than slants.

I just did the same test myself I’m in my studio, greenbacks distort a bit more, 30s are better for clean, BTW, great demo

I had an original 1960 ax cab loaded with greenbacks that I sold to my brother years back. Now he won’t part with it, and I’ve had to build another.😆

What pedals are you using on your pedal board ? Great tone . I own a YJM . Found the greenback more ‘marshall’ especially for the high gain sounds . Liked the vintage 30s as well but definately brighter and abit much with the boost engaged

You should try out the G12K-100s I'm currently running them in a 2x12 and the sound is huge and somehow it's louder than all of my friends 4x12 cabs, but they probably have crap speakers in them haha!

How did the V30/Greenback mix sound in the room? The V30 didn't dominate the Greenback? For a 212 would you prefer V30/G12M, or 2xG12M?

this is the way on how to make an idea about a cabinet - not through a mix..with a microphone..but with a good room mic...I wish people would learn that - use headphones and you will be able to better tell the difference...

my idea of a perfect 4x12 is v30 and greenbacks. did you put them v30 one side top and bottom and greens on the other side? that way if a stereo cabinet, you can have both or either.

I have a 212 cab right now that I have a celestion v30 and a wgs veteran speaker in it and it sounds pretty good but I'm thinking of mixing it up with a vintage 30 celestion and a greenback, so I'm going to see what that sounds like and if it's to my liking I'll probably go that route. But then again it all depends on what you are driving the speakers with and how the cab is constructed is it sealed, open back, ported - So many factors go into this and what it all comes down to is this, if you like the way it sounds, then go with it, that's what I've always relied on.

Hey there, I'd like to know what volume do you usually use the 100w head with the greenback 2x12? I'm thinking of running a 100w marshall head into a 50w rating 2x12 greenback cab. Heard it may blow up the speakers if the head's wattage is higher than that of the cab's....

What are the dimensions of that Palmer cab? I just built a 24x30x12. This looks close.

How did you wire the 4x12? I've been thinkingof doing the same combination, but it would be cool to be able to use all the speakers, but also just the greenbacks, or just the v30s, if desired.. Cheers. Amazing tone!

If the Greenback and the v30 were in the same cabinet, would a V 30 really overpower the Greenback? I know the v 30 is more efficient, thinking about trying it.

Nice playing! Just got a V30 and been doing the same comparison myself with Greenback & Blue. The V30 def has a place as do all other speakers. The greenback is prob by far best all rounder if you need to cover all styles, in my humble opinion!

Good playing but I hear you physically hitting the stings almost as much as the speakers.

I WAS NEVER A FAN OF GREENBACKS, BLEW TO MANY OF THEM UP....THE V30S ARE MORE FOCUSED AND HAVE MORE HEADROOM...FOR TONE THE V30S BUT I ALSO LOVE THE 75S THAT CAME IN MY 1960 CAB THEY ARE SIMPLY THE BEST....TONE FO RME IS EVERYTHING I DO NOT MEAN CRANKING EVERYTHING TO THE RIGHT, I MEAN TONE....

4 green backs in the "ROOM"...definately sounds fuller, warmer,..and just as clean as 2x12's in the room....there you have it..!!!...i was right.....I WIIL NOT DITCH MY MARSHALL 4x12 cab for a 2x12 cab..and i am 66 years young....it has wheels....fits in my Toyota Camry Trunk...or squeezes into my back seat....and when i'm in a club ..it fills the room whit "MORE SOUND "at a lower volume...YES..to 4x12 Marshall cabs........fuller,smoother, warmer, fills the room with sound at a lower volume..because it spreads 4x12 cabin way..better than 2x12...."in the Room....."FULLNESS..vs volume..WINS>>>>Lenny Luzitano......Listen to my Music on ReverbNation/Lenny Luzitano...and RU-vid.
