Some European special rules:
- 8.33kHz frequency spacing
- altimeter setting QNH in hectopascal
- procedural service
Your comments and suggestions are always welcome!

@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Thank you very much! To cross the North Atlantic in a singe engine aircraft requires a good planning and you must be conservative. The North Atlantic is always the boss! While you would think that the engine is the major risk factor, it is actually the weather, wind and icing. I stopped ferrying piston engine aircraft. A turbine is so much safer. another great example of professional flying and videography in its proper place. Wondering if you use pulse oximetry while at FL250?
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Thank you Larry. I am very careful and aware regarding the risk of hypoxia. I use a pulse system from MH for the oxygen supply and carry a spare unit with batteries ready in reach. Oxygen saturation (I use that finger tip tester) is good. TUC time of useful consciousness is not that critical at FL250, but you have to descent quickly if for any reason the oxygen supply is interrupted. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@flyer5769
@flyer5769 4 месяца назад
When I flew the Cessna 208B first notched of flaps is good to 176kns or red line. Part of my training in the 208B was emergency descent from 10,000 feet. Very simple, push the nose down while selecting 10° of flaps. And then pulling the power back to idle. Using your stick to bring the airspeed to redline. I haven't a clue what I would do if I was at 25,000 feet!
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
The newer C208 does not have the 10 degree flap setting anymore, only 20 and full. The speed for flaps 20 is 150KIAS. I think you easily get 4000fpm descent rate out if a Caravan. I know of parachute jump pilots who land before the jumpers reach the ground... A decent to 10,000ft can become critical of you enter icing conditions. An Atlantic crossing requires a thorough and conservative planning. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Thank you very much Steve. As I mentioned before a smooth landing is nice for the passengers and for the pilot's ego... More important is however a safe and stable approach and a touchdown at the correct speed in the touch down zone with a controlled roll out. If a smooth landing comes out (typically a good approach leads to a good landing), then it is a nice add on. Of all the airplanes I fly, the Caravan is one of the easiest to land. Basically a C172 on steroids. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Good winds and happy landings (as usual) from Portugal. Or as it would be said in your country of origine "Gute Winde und glückliche Landungen"😁 P.S: Next time you visit Cascais (if you`re heading to munincipal airport Tires LPCS), ask for Ms. Cristina Cruz - head of safety and circulation in the airport.
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
H Norberto, I have huge respect for the pilots operating there! However I doubt if the numbers are really correct. These conditions would mean a DIRECT CROSSWIND component of 50 knots. The Caravan will just run out of control. I would rather think the wind comes from 270 degrees and that would reduce the crosswind component significantly,. As a rule of thumb, an aircraft is designed can handle a direct crossing of around 50% of its stall speed (with an experienced pilot). So in a Caravan I would estimate that the max direct crosswind to be able to handle is around 35-40 knots. I do not know the landing technique there. May be they slid sideways on the dirt strip. The aircraft oi not designed (has not enough rodder/aileron control) to keep the aircraft straight. This has nothing to do with the skill of the pilot. Are there any videos? Do the pilots use full flaps or 10/20 degrees flaps? Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

@@GuidoWarnecke I am afraid I only have a single engine piston rating for my PPL. I can only dream of flying a C208 - my favourite aircraft. I can only think that go-around performance would be more immediate in high-idle. But perhaps the engine runs a little hotter as a result? Am I correct? I have been subscribed for a while, and you are my favourite aviation channel. Please keep the videos coming. :)
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Don't say "only" single engine piston rating. We are all part of the aviation community and share a passion: aviation! You are correct with your answer. From high idle, the spool up time of the engine from idle power to full power is a bit shorter than from low idle. It is a bit academic though... The difference in RPM is around 5%. Low idle produces less thrust while taxiing, good for the brakes. This is why you have the low and hi setting and don't leave it in high all the time. You use high idle also on high elevation airports or on very hot climate on the ground to enhance the airflow through the turbine and keep the temperatures under control. More airflow - more cooling. This is particularly important if you have additional load on the engine, like the air condition compressor or a high generator load to recharge the battery after engine start. A turbine draws a LOT of power from the battery during engine start. The motivation for my detailed answer is: try to understand WHY some items are in the checklist and not just memorize them. I appreciate that you watched my video in such detail and picked up my error! Enjoy your flying! If you have the opportunity do your instrument rating. This makes you a safer pilot with more opportunities. It is not as difficult to get as they say! Thank you for subscribing to my channel. Please tell your friends too. And the friends of your friends... 🙂 Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Was the fuel condition lever in flight idle for your descent from the flight levels/the approach at Wick?
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Hi Don, eyes like an eagle... Yes it was on low. It is a bit academic, they say that the engine spools up quicker on a go around from idle with the condition lever in idle. This is why I was sloppy with it. But the checlist is clear: condition lever to hi idle before take off. No excuse. Thanks for your comment and for watching my videos in such detail. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@don.yarbrough
@don.yarbrough 4 месяца назад
No sloppiness implied at all - mostly I was curious if the low idle position increases endurance up high when you’re flying these long legs. Thanks for thoughtfully responding!
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
HI Don, the hi idle is nothing else than a setting that increases idle RPM by 5%. In flight there is no difference as the RPM is up in the 90%+ anyhow. The main usage is: At high elevation airports with hi temperatures and high generator load and the air conditioner (compressor) on you may want to go on hi Idle on the ground to increase airflow through the engine and reduce ITT. It brings the idle RPM up by approx. 5% The other function is the previously described spool up time in a go around. Anther example for usage: We bring the condition lever to low idle after landing to reduce residual thrust. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RNUV3rGD4hg.htmlsi=9itkXCNxtNzMwSyB&t=125 Happy Landings, Capt. I tried this in other videos but without background noise, the video is very "sterile". Example here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--_Swq9M4Hwk.htmlsi=WFoqwf6Irlntx0sD What I try to do is a better mixing of the noise levels (ambient vs. ATC). Also to reduce background static noise. I am Stil learning on Premiere Pro, my video editing software. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Awesome video. Thank you for sharing. How long in hours and minutes it took you to cross over North Atlantic 2 points of no return? I would suggest adding runway number to wind direction and speed and tw and cw picture on minute 1:43. Thank you once again.

Thanks for your comment and your suggestion. In a light aircraft the typical route is CYYR-BGBW-BIKF-EGPC with around 675NM for each leg. Point of no return is of no means in a single engine aircraft...it only goes down... I a twin engine aircraft I run PET/PNR numbers in flight but alternates in Greenland are sparse an often you end up with a wet spot in a King Air etc. A loss of pressurization can ruin your day too, Fuel is your friend up there in the North. One of the reasons I do not ferry piston engine aircraft anymore, single or twin. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

@@GuidoWarnecke Thank you Captain Guido. I mixed up point of no return with jets, sounds logical there is no such a thing in single engine plane. Very brave passing cold waters in single engine aircraft, my guess it took you around 3 to 4 hours for crossing based on cessna caravan cruise speed.
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
It is typically 4+30 per leg when going Eastbound. The winds up North are unpredictable up North, you do not have the typical W-E wind patters that you find more South on the Jet routes. I had headings pin both directions. The risks involved in a single engine have to be accepted. I consider the risk in a PT6 turbine as very remote. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

@@GuidoWarnecke Oh, I forgot that an amazing PT6 (aka best single engine ever made ) is the (only)one to be trusted. Thank you for your videos, I really liked -Landing with 47 knots wind! That was awesome.

Is a water survival suit required/advised when crossing water over long distances in this size aircraft?
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Hi Frank, survival gear is mandatory and in a single engine aircraft you have to carry also an immersion suit to protect against the cold water. However one has to accept that the chances of survival are slim to none. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

@@GuidoWarnecke Thank you for the response, captain. With no pun intended, the last sentence is chilling. I have followed your channel for many years now. Live near KOXC. Regards.

This is one of the reasons I gave up on ferrying piston engine aircraft... I feel very safe in a PT6 turbine aircraft but got more and more nervous in the C182's etc I ferried over the pond. KOXC is close to my old home base KDXR. I was there recently for a fuel stop at Reliant Air in a C208. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

I didn't know that DME was still used for navigation purposes in a position call (1:10)
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
Hi Sean, for approximate positions DME and GPS are close enough. The slant range effect is negligible. An example here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZER6phUu8sE.htmlsi=vHSXL-YDFY1oR_Bp The controller at Wick does not have radar, so he relies on distances and has to apply a large separation, I would say min 5NM, may be more. How long to climb to 25000ft?
@GuidoWarnecke
@GuidoWarnecke 4 месяца назад
This depends on temperature and if it is an EX with the 875HP engine or the "small" engine. Typically around 60 minutes climb time. So it is only efficient on long legs, which (as a ferry pilot) I always have. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

I explained to you before, in case you didn't see it, it means computer generated imagery which is exactly what this is. It's easy to see this is a simulation. Why not just say at the start that it's a simulation? The buildings are obviously fake, the plane parked in front is fake. I haven't watched your channel for a while but the last few videos you have uploaded have been in flight simulators. Why do you pass it off as real?@@GuidoWarnecke

Hi Jason, I remember now...thanks for the reminder. Not sure if you make fun of me or if that is a serious statement. If you want to make fun of me....that's ok... But no, these are real flights taken with a real GoPro camera. Is the moon landing also a fake? Just asking for a friend 🙂 Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Not trying to make fun of you, just pointing out that you are using computer generated imagery. I can pick it from a mile away. You fool so many people, does that make you happy? If you are a moon landing believer you don't have a very logical thinking mind. I'm sure you got all your fizer shots too. I won't be posting anymore comments or watching any more of your videos due to your deceptive nature, you are very well aware that your videos are fake and done in a flight simulator. A lot of flying videos on youtube are the same, people using advanced flight simulators and pretending they are real. Missionary bush pilot is another one plus citation max and many others including yourself. I grew up on video games man and I can tell the difference between real footage and computer images. All the best with whatever you are trying to do. Goodbye.@@GuidoWarnecke
