I found one in a highlight package from the second last game which I would've included if I had known about it when I made this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tmMkYUS3Wik.html 0:00 2022 Toronto @ Montreal 0:43 2011 Winnipeg @ Toronto 0:58 2017 Saskatchewan @ Ottawa 1:18 1986 Toronto @ Edmonton 1:27 2023 Edmonton @ Saskatchewan Week 5 2:11 2004 Toronto @ Calgary 2:36 2019 BC @ Toronto 3:10 1989 Hamilton @ Winnipeg 3:33 1991 BC @ Edmonton 3:55 1959 Winnipeg @ Calgary 4:06 1980 Montreal @ Winnipeg 4:33 1987 Winnipeg @ BC

Sir, can you do, snice 1964 when it came in after 1963, as many kicked balls that hit the post being dead balls? In my opinion, it's awful as they should be single point as well (the other team getting the next play at 45, now be 50) So to see as many examples of those plays that could have resulted in the kicking team winning the game (like in 2022: Montreal still won in OT against Winnipeg, but if my rule change happened, Montreal would have won by 1 w/o OT) than losing if you can 😊

@@KangaKucha I think it was 1974 but I can try to find examples, this is a rare play and footage from this time period is rare so I'll see what I can do.

@@cflhighlights9370 cheers mate I asked on Facebook months ago and this guy said that in Stemp 1963, due to a play being a live ball resulting in a TD, it got changed. He didn't say when but my guess it be the next season of 1964. However I originally thought it be 1974 too sir so no worries mate. All the best :) Matt R/S aka Kangiwii PS: let me know if you make a video as I like my rule change option to appear on it and argue the more Canadian Football is like Australia Rules Football (we do it as the Behind rule) and Rugby Football where Canadian came from and less like its American counterpart, the bloody better it gets! Agree? :)

That single by Roughriders against Elks this season... CJ Sims didn't understood the rules, it was a perfect showing of how bad Elks were at that point.

This may sound strange but to me the Single is the most exciting scoring method in all of gridiron football.

I agree. Also when you are anticipating a field goal, but it's missed and you are mocked with a meaningless single point, I find that to be very hilarious salt being rubbed into the wound.
@TheAseer2020

I do have two technical question. When a single is scored is it considered a "scoring drive" I hear this term used when a touchdown or field goal is scored. Second, who gets credit for the single point, the punter, team, or no one? I think that I read that the punter does not get credited for the single.
@cflhighlights9370
@cflhighlights9370 6 месяцев назад
@@TheAseer2020A scoring drive is just any drive that ends with a score as opposed to a turnover or something. In the CFL stats rouges are usually credited to kickers afaik, they have stats on most rouges in a career etc.
@arcusmae
@arcusmae 6 месяцев назад
@@cflhighlights9370I have another question, there's a rouge scored after a kicker deliberately missed the FG and put it out of bounds at 0 secs to win the game. Am I interpreting that right? Also, does a missed FG have to be caught? I take it that it's live so it has to be received otherwise the kicking team can score a TD?
@cflhighlights9370
@cflhighlights9370 6 месяцев назад
@@arcusmaeyes you’re interpreting that right, but it doesn’t have to be caught. For example in the bc edm one in this video, it went out of bounds without anyone having the opportunity to touch it.

It happened a lot in the 60s and 70s, but not many games from that era have footage, and if they do, they probably weren't won on rouges. Here's a list I compiled of every one. docs.google.com/document/d/1dMUdXONRrguuPJbvJNYXUjJCLRCZBu8PvXbOrMEQXB4/edit?usp=sharing

Question for all. Does anyone know of the best anwser for the orgin of the Single? I have read one hypothesis that its orgin might be in a game played at Eton, a Private school in Britton, the Eton field game. The single was adopted from the Brittish Rugby influence had on the evolution of Canadian Gridiron Football. True or not? From my understanding the Single is a bit of a mystery, with orgins in Brittish games
@cflhighlights9370
@cflhighlights9370 6 месяцев назад
Yes, it’s true. According to a 1956 documentary a rouge in the Eton field game is scored by kicking the ball around the uprights and landing on it for a single point. Just like how a rouge is kicked around the uprights and the ball is not brought out of the endzone.

NFL end zones aren't deep enough to give a full point for a rouge, but I think a fraction would be cool. How about 7/11 of a point? Deliberately making the denominator a prime means that unless each team scores the same number of rouges, ties would go away.
@TheAseer2020
@TheAseer2020 4 месяца назад
Actually, the NFL has one rule that has it origins in Rugby, however, modern Rugby did away with this rule, and is very old. The CFL does not have this rule. It is the option to make a field goal attempt after, a fair catch/mark. Yes the NFL needs rule changes, however, it does have an old odd rule.

It was a briliant call by the coach. Not only is it the shortest distance to the back of the endzone, but you don't risk hitting the uprights and having a dead ball.

In my opinion, FG attempts should be done as far as 60 yards (not further). Unlikely to be successful for 3 points but could be a single or just like a punt attempt anyway. I think it's worth a risk desbite the dead ball BS (should be singles)
@brentstwocents
@brentstwocents 6 месяцев назад
The problem with a long field goal attempt is if you miss the chances of a huge return (or TD) is too high. At least on a punt you have downfield coverage.

If they can get it out of the endzone it’s not a single point.
@fortranwarrior8716

It’s not that weird. It’s to reward the offense for advancing the ball that far and to encourage the defense to have to think about something besides just blocking the kick. The point isn’t a reward for missing: it’s a reward for advancing the ball. It only really makes sense because the the end zone is so big and the posts are on the goal line, where they should be :)

What I don't understand is why even bother with a FG when a rouge will give them the game? Instead of wasting a guy as the holder, make him a blocker.
@cflhighlights9370
@cflhighlights9370 5 месяцев назад
Well because punts are live, at least if it’s a FG it’s dead and you don’t have to kick it 20 yards further into the endzone or risk the other team bringing out. A failed game winning rouge on a punt has happened many times. But there are definitely some times where teams should just punt for the single.
@michaelschettig1613

Why do teams even try the game winning field goal in a tie game? If youre close enough just have the punter send it out the back of the endzone
@cflhighlights9370
@cflhighlights9370 7 месяцев назад
It’s hard to be close enough, and also because if you go for a field goal, the other team instinctively tries to block it in front of the uprights, so you can just miss and miss the block. It’s a good strategy. But a short distance punt has happened before for example thanksgiving 2002 Toronto/Hamilton.
@santaclause3487
@santaclause3487 4 месяца назад
Why not just punt out of end zone instead of kicking a fg?
@cflhighlights9370
@cflhighlights9370 4 месяца назад
They do sometimes, but a punt has to go 20 yards further than a field goal cause it had to go out of the endzone to be a guaranteed point, whereas a field goal is dead once it goes through the upright which is 20 yards closer than the back of the endzone. Also, if you do a field goal but have the intention of missing, the other team will block in front of the uprights whereas the ball will go around them. On a punt everyone knows exactly what you are doing. But again it has been tried for example Thanksgiving 2002 Toronto @ Hamilton

Edmonton lose to Saskatchewan 12-11, Elks are fools as due to my fictional score, they should have won by at least 2 points. Idk about the other games but I bet most be like that. Yet in Saskatchewan beat Edmonton, it's a pure dumb luck win that almost got SSK into the playoffs that thankfully they didn't.
