FULL WEEK, yes I used caps there.... our container arrived, like Xmas for us. And... our friends from Ohio came and rented a tractor to clear the square.... so amazing. Also some ceilings painted and flowers planted. It was a great week for the Chateau. Ohhhhh and a great French Meal at the end. 22 days till the students arrive.

Hello guys. My wife mentioned maybe you could try some chickens to eat the worms in the bushes. Not sure if it’s an option but it would be fun to see them roaming around the grounds.

Now put a plastic bag in your new paint cup and avoid cleanup. Great big AAHH for your container arriving with all of your things! You know, I think I have seen electronic devices that discourage birds. Some make an annoying noise on a cycle, but even though they make noise, they usually discourage birds from coming around after awhile.

Another week of progress. You could occasionally use a dragging screen pulled behind the mower to keep the weeds out of the square.

One of the Chateau owners has a rake system that he hauls behind his 4x4 to keep the weeds in his drive way at bay. He does it about every two weeks. He picked the rake up at a horse race course.

Let's call this the Blessings Video! Your beautiful things.... finishing rooms for new students... clearing the front courtyard (who knew what a difference that makes?)... the rose... the van... Mr. Bingley. God is so apparent in the details. He knows every one of your hairs, and He makes His love so clear!

Magnifique video this week! So many fabulous things happening. The full-time move to France must feel even more real now that your treasure chest container of things have arrived!! Your attitudes about the never ending painting are inspiring. Bingly so darling in the wagon. I was nervous right along with you Rob when you tracked the paint on the carpet…and then much relieved to see it coming out. Phew! The square is looking splendid. Leslie, that vase is gorgeous, especially with your dear Griff rose. I can feel the excitement for the students’ arrival building all the way across the pond in the US.

Rob, may I recommend that you use a plastic bag, perhaps a ziploc bag or those from the grocery store, without holes, to use as a liner for your paint cup. This way, you and save the paint in the cup by closing the top, to use for another day, plus, there is little to no clean up when you are done with one color.

Congrats to see the container arrived safely. Leslie will have fun putting everything in it's place. Nice that you have your family things. It will feel even more like home. Bet Mr. B is happy for some familiar smells from America. Curious how you deal with the conversion issue on the tools? I love that blue tile bathroom. I used a hospital grade ceiling curtain in a Victorian restoration so might offer some solutions to the shower curtain you need. Happy for you! What a difference the grading makes. Just a great week of projects and updates.

Great choice to bring your American ladder. I did bring an 8 footer but I left my 10 footer back in the States and I regret it every day. There is nothing more dangerous than a French ladder, I have no idea why this is. You’re doing a great job on the rooms and that’s quite an ambitious goal to get all of those done in time for the students, but keep going. It’s such a great feeling to receive your belongings from the United States. So many people say you should leave everything behind and we would have really regretted that because we enjoy it even more having some things that were important to us from where we used to live. Also, just as you said, it really is like Christmas opening up everything you sent over. As for the tractor every guy who owns a château needs one. It doesn’t need to be too big but just don’t go too small - sorry Leslie.

You both are so busy! Still!! I am glad that everything went so well getting your shipping container. Lots to unpack and a short time to settle everything into place. If you look around, there are devices that you could pull behind your lawn tractor to keep the weeds out of your gravel drive. We live in the country, so this is always a problem. We have a box grader for our big tractor that really worked great, but I have seen people use a small version of a drag rake on their lawn tractor. Great job on everything!

While they are only 'things' having your own items back and at hand is such a comfort. I too have an antique (probably mid-1800s) carving set from the parents of my English grandfather's mother. The handles are made from antlers. You are making such wonderful progress, and having the square area scraped is great, especially now that the worst of the rain is past. I'm sure having so many aspects of your Chateau life improved now will ease your minds during the exciting months to come. Rest is good, and necessary.

Your Square is amazing! So happy for you guys💖 With the hedge, I wonder if covering it with some sort of netting would help protect for it to have a chance to bloom fully? But then would still have the possibility of worms in the future. I wonder if treating the soil underneath the hedge with anti-worm, something, would prove effective?

Buckeye’s in Ohio, chestnuts for everyone else, in French they’re called « marron » and not edible, some calls these horse chestnuts, the edible version are called « châtaigne » in France. Marron have large spikes on the outer shell while châtaigne are more fuzzy. It seems we also recall the châtaigne on the property.

Box Tree Moth is what my insect ID app calls these green caterpillars. Your boxwoods may be beyond saving at this point since, without green leaves for photosynthesis, they can’t regenerate easily. A systemic insecticide might help rather than a contact one if it’s allowed in France. The plant absorbs the insecticide and the caterpillars eat it. It’s generally more effective at reaching all of the caterpillars than a contact spray is since you can’t alway reach them with the spray. Just some thoughts - I’m not an expert but worked in a garden centre for 3 years and learned a couple of things along the way. 🤗🇨🇦

Hedge issue-The spraying didn’t work because of the constant rain, probably.Did you tried Neem oil spray or Tea tree oil based spray? In USA we haveSpinoza and BT , and those have to be applied later in the day because sunlight degrades them. Good luck 👍

I don’t know if this is helpful but if Lesley’s parents or grandparents are British born, then she would have right to a UK passport. If that is the case it might be worth looking into it as then if she is successful both your children may have the right too.
