Thank you for sharing this with us. It is an amazing building and I hope it can be saved. In England in the city where I used to work about 1967, the Cathedral was under going much needed stablization work. Chichester Cathedral was slowly subsiding due to a large amount of water in the ground under it. I remember the scaffolding and support and being told that they were pumping out water from under the cathedral and at the same rate and pressure, concrete? was being pumped into its place. It made a big impression on me as a teenager. I tried to find something online about this work sadly I was unable to. Chichester Cathedral in West Sussex, England. I do not know if this will help you in finding a solution to saving your beautiful building where the chapel and stables are located, I thought I would pass my memory of this work on to you.

The horses and carriages in earlier times were the equivalent of today’s Lamborghini, Rolls Royce and Ferrari, the display of wealth. So the stables were very elegant. 🇦🇺

I have been in horses for 30 years. It appears to me that the tie stalls were a earlier design and the stall at the back would have been added later. Barns have really changed over the years and are much better designed. My stalls have run ins so the horses can go in and out at free will at night. And large turn out during the day. We have tamped sand with rubber mats and then shaving for bedding which is so much better than concrete on the horses legs. All the best for bringing the buildings back to their former glory.

Thank you for that, what a pleasure and a pain to see it. What a pity, especially as it contains some of what are probably the more important parts of the communs, historically speaking. I can't imagine what would be required to save that building, but as you say, just to prevent it from falling would enough. At least for now, shame life is so relatively short. G'day from your old country.

This is such an amazing chateau, I’m so glad you are going to save it. The chapel is beautiful, but the most exciting thing for me is knowing you are restoring the stables…. Having horses, I would love to be able to have original stables…( with some mod cons..) a hall near us in Norfolk called Houghton hall uses the original stables….they are beautiful and much prefer seeing them in use rather than a coffee shop ….

I found the chapel piece quite moving. Your connection with the religious aspect of it is clear. To be wed within it, what an aim! How old will you be if you wait until it is ready??? Haha! But the staircase for a domestic stable? What a complex stairwell! But the work needed to redeem the building, where does one begin, the mind boggles.

The out building that's falling, cutting it off at the stable / Tackle room could save the building. Removing everything above the vaulted chambers in the basement, leaving a patio could be left it its sound. The structural damage at the end is puling the building over. Water damage weakening the buildings roof, walls and structure looks like the cause.
Год назад
We will be conducting a diagnostic study to find out the issues and this will provide guidance on the best course of action to protect and save the building.

Yr doing a wonderful job bringing her back. I wonder if lowering the ground level at the front of the west building and supporting the building with correctional structure would give it a solid base and the balance it needs for the next few centuries? Correctional structure looks inevitable whichever side you choose but less in your face if in front I imagine. It would create a balance issue on perspective for the two side buildings I guess but might save the west one from toppling over. Just a thought.
Год назад
We are fortunate that the support structure is required at the back of the building so the aesthetics of the front of the building are not effected. We will need to conduct a diagnostic study to work out the best course of action to save the building.

Of course you want to save and protect the building, but is restoration not an option? Also, are the paintings still up because they are part of the walls? Amazing building. I hope you are only referring to a wedding celebration in the chapel and that you have actually already legally married. This is because of the inheritance situation in France if you haven’t purchased the chateau en tontine. Somebody you cohabit with as a partner and are not married to or PACS with would have to pay 60% tax on any inheritance. If you haven’t made a will parents would inherit not the partner. I’ve over simplified this but I really hope this has all been explained to you and you have taken steps to mitigate the risk , the first step is to legally marry.

@tip0019

I am afraid both side-buildings are beyond repair and need a complete rebuild to correct for the faulty design of the foundation. It would be a shame to just demolish them as it changes the appearance of the chateau a lot. But if you have the finances I would recommend a (partial) rebuild.
