Chalking the Uffington White Horse

In this week's Cache Walk we join in the centuries old tradition of Chalking the Horse. For 3,000 years the White Horse of Uffington has been looked after so this prehistoric hill figure can still be seen overlooking the Vale of the White Horse in Oxfordshire, England. Come with us as we crush white chalk so it can be kept in good condition.

How fabulous you did that... I had no idea that was the way the chalking is done. Loved the pub...and what a classic when the horse riders went past followed by a red sports car. You must have been exhausted by the end of the day and oh, Ive got aching muscles just watching you Thanks, that was really enjoyable 😊

Strange how things like that happen. We still find it strange to think we participated in an event that in one form or another has been going on for 3,000 years.

That steak looked tasty!!!! In my hometown in Idaho, painted rocks are placed to form an L and C on the hillside. In my senior year in high school, a bunch of us did the yearly senior duty of paining the rocks and reforming the L. Watching you bash the chalk to make the dust that forms the horse seemed so difficult to do. It's cool you had the opportunity to help out and contribute to the cause.
