I wish Chris would have insisted on the family seeing the piglets’ mother. Absolutely guaranteed that adult “mini” pig is over 100 pounds. Also he didn’t mention that pigs are fiercely social, and a solo one will likely become destructive out of loneliness. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I agree but you can’t blame the kids they were excited and also baby pigs are naturally like that because in the wild they are a walking pork chop to predators that’s why baby bigs don’t like being picked up. All that skittishness and squealing was more a natural behavior than anything else.

As the owner of the pigs, if I saw that kind of behavior from someone who has come to buy one of my pigs, I would have to be telling them, "Not sorry, ma'am. You won't be going home with one of my pigs", and then if ask why, I would be up front and tell them straight out why. The pig's well being would be more important to me than their hurt feelings.

While living in South Africa, a turtle once appeared in our garden and because we had a lot of nature around and a pretty wild garden he just stayed with us and we named him Julius. He could have left if he wanted to but he didn't and we became friends. But he didn't have a girlfriend. And well...thus he used a stone. Luckily, when we moved away we could give him to friends of ours who have got plenty of women for him. :p I understand how lonely that tortoise must feel.

I will never understand people who are like "Okay let's get a pet!" without doing extensive research first. I used to think I wanted a guinea pig, a rabbit, a rat, or a ferret one day, until I realized that these creatures all overheat REALLY easily. I live in New Jersey but even then we get some HOT summers sometimes, and I'd feel guilty if I couldn't regulate their temperature, and something bad happened to them. At this point I figure if I ever decide to get a pet, it will most likely be a cat, since I already have experience with those.
@Shastasnow
@Shastasnow 4 года назад
Unfortunately, many people don't think about researching first and just get a pet. I remember researching mice for 2 years before finally getting one. Even then it only lived for a year. But I plan to try again. Animals are all different and come with challenges that are sometimes beyond your control. I feel being respectful and caring goes a long way. But still having that bit of extra information will hopefully lead to long-living and happy pets. But I feel quality of life is better than long living and suffering.

Pigs are great animals but are not for impulsive people or people unwilling to learn. When I decided I wanted a Rottweiler at 13 I dived into learning everything I could about them. I didn't get my Rotty till I was 25. He was the most amazing boy. Everyone loved him and he had friends at Petco, home Depot, dog park, my vet and the techs loved him. Sadly at 2.5yo he developed cancer in his splean that spread to his bone marrow. I spent thousands to try and save him and I still got my heart broke. Lots of people cried when I told them I had to make the decision.

That pig is going to destroy that family (and their house), I can see it coming from miles away. Kids are too young, loud and small. Dog is too loud and small. Mom seems clueless and just giggles when Chris tells her how much trouble she could get in. I wish Chris had told them straight out that its a horrible idea to get a pig, but I'm guessing he probably has a contractual reason why he can't. Mom clearly seems to be a bit resentful of her kids, but a pig will make it worse. At best, maybe a nipped finger or two and at worse, broken bones. A annoyed pig will not hesitate to show it's emotions. I hope that at least they give it to a rescue or something and don't just have it euthanized.

Yeah that's why I feel bad everytime I see a petting zoo full of out of control kids and small animals. Like those animals are shoved into a small enclosure only to chased by screeching children and if one of them bites a kid it's the animals fault and more than likely they'll be put down. I've had first hand experience of small kids around small animals mostly from the daycare I worked at where they straight up warned you to not let a small animal anywhere nears the kids cause they would kill it. I mean those kids were 2-3yrs old but still they should be taught how to behave around animals from day one. I learned the hard way after my childhood dog bit me for handling one of her puppies the wrong way and I don't blame her, I was a wild small kid who had no experience around puppies that small and I sure learned my lesson that day.

Dr. Chris was doing his best to gently convince the mother not to get the pig, but she's more pig-headed than any pig she's going to get. As for Chloe, why do people wait so long to get a dog in for treatment? A nasal discharge that lasts more than a few days is always cause for concern. "She's only been really bad for the last week or two." Yeah, right, probably at least three weeks, judging by the spread of the fungus. Poor Chloe. She's lucky she survived.

Owning a pig is like having a toddler that never grows up. If this lady can't control her kids she won't be able to control a pig. Depending on the breed, a proper diet will ensure the pig won't get to big. It's when you overfeed them and / or give then the wrong diet is when they get really big.

I hope they realize that the pig could end up several hundred pounds... there is no such thing as a mini pig or teacup pig anywhere in the world... you cannot breed them to stay a size... it’s a wild card... you could get 1 teacup pig from the litter and 1 that ends up being several hundred pounds... These little kids are going to end up getting their fingers bitten or hurt... I suspect this pig will end up at a rescue farm sadly :/

[nods] they're actually fairly fastidious animals to begin with. my grandfather's hogs would only use one corner of their pens for relieving themselves and it was Always opposite from where they ate or slept. smart creatures. but not a good idea for people who aren't willing to listen when somebody tries explaining to them that pigs can and Will do their own thing whether the person likes it or not. that Includes rooting around the house And possibly doing the other animals (or kids) harm if they tick them off. at the time of the taping, the little pig seemed like a little push-around. but hogs have *Looong* memories and have No trouble turning any/all bull one tries on them back ten fold with higher amperage.

Depends on who the owner is. A good owner can make it work; i'd never have one, but I have a friend with two pigs, they live inside and go out to do their business like a dog! But they have their own mattress and everything inside. House is clean as hell, and the pigs are pretty spoilt and happy, but they're not easy to keep that way. But not everyone can care for a pig and make them happy like that whilst keeping them indoor, and people need to realise that pigs are *hard*. They can be pretty high maintenance, just like every other farm animal or pet.

Those poor piglets! I'd run away from those kids too. It's funny that they got the pig I liked the most, I love that striped hair pattern. Pigs are so cute :D I'm actually not surprised the medicine hasn't cured the Border Collie. Medications have trouble passing through the blood-brain barrier, so they can't as effectively treat the brain. It's a major reason why diseases in the brain are so hard to treat. Ironically it's a protective measure, it also prevents many diseases from getting into the brain.

Someone my dad used to work with found a baby wild pig , he called it pig pig and took it home with him. Long story short the pig had grown to the size of a 2 person couch. It had eaten the jib walls and had eaten its way into his floor and was living under the floor. It used to eat its way out of the property and would run down the road past the school. To get it home he would hit it with a spade to get it moving in the right direction

We spent our last very emotional Christmas with him and it was so tough!!!! From his first symptoms to the day we had him put to sleep was just under 2 months. Yet we have an almost 14 year old Yorkie that has had metastasized breast cancer for over 2 years and shows little signs of being in pain. Sometimes it’s doesn’t seem fair and being disabled and losing an awesome that helped me so much and had such a wonderful and loving personality is horrible. On Georgia's east coast there is an island with feral pigs. I think it is Cumberlin Island. They are very small mostly under 70 lbs. We owned 2 Breed from this stock, 40 pounders. Because they are so dense they stood only 13 inches at shoulder. Yes they were very smart and very clean. Easy to train and never mean. Yes they love food. They learned to open the door with their mouths and then open the dog food cans. It was a battle to see who was smarter us or them. No one has mentioned that they are also great mimics and learn from people and animals. They love people who are good to them just like dogs and cats. We loved Calico and Pork chop and hated to lose them. PS There are unreliable breeders who will tell you what you want to hear about size thinking that you will be attached before you find out how big they grow.
