Myke is the coolest person at telling a rapper that their project isn't for him. Doesn't speak bad, doesn't talk down to them and doesn't insult them. He puts respek on they name. That's why he has respek on his.
Because at the end of the day it's pretty hard to hate on this album. Chance did so many things right, but if it's not to your style it's understandable. As a complete project it's pretty good for what it is.
I have a very special message for Myke... COME ON BIG FELLA YOU DRUNK BIG FELLA TWO SIPS AND NOW YOU WANNA TRIP BIG FELLA YOU NOT A DRINKER I CAN SEE IT ALL IN YOUR LEG BIG FELLA YOU WOBBLY BIG FELLA YOU FINNA FALL SIT DOWN YOU DRUNK BIG FELLA
+Jan Clausell It could be a threesome with Lisa Ann & Nikki Benz , they're hot AF, but if the story is "mother & daughter fuck son/brother", the story concept will turn Me off
Yeah, first time I've disagreed with Myke. I thought this shit was beautiful. Diverse production, Chance's creativity flourishing, killing different flows, shit was dope.
yeah man, the whole Chance 3 promotion threw me off. I skipped statuses about the album the whole first day it dropped thinking it was an actual coloring book
Man! I just can't believe they found AcidRap "annoying" at times. To me, all of AcidRap is perfect. Ive listened to mixtape like 200+ times no doubt throughout the years. Chance is amazing.
Lol @ Myke roasting himself in the end. "Don't listen to no negative ass, fuckin' down in the dumps ass, fuckin' rain cloud over the head constantly ass Myke. I don't know shit man, so keep doing what you're doing." someone should sample this. Imagine if Chance samples this, would be an instant win.
Although I feel like I liked the tracks a little more than it seemed that you did, I completely agree that it feels like Chance is just missing from a lot of these tracks. A lot of my favorite songs on this project were those where it feels like Chance is prominent on the track instead of his features.
Im really suprised nobody understood (or thought to mention) how relevant Chances references are to the younger generation. A WHOLE song about peter pan (Same Drugs) and the Dragon ball Z reference, and harry potter. I fucking love it. Just a thouught
I fuck with you guys & I subscribed to Patreon & I know it's only a dollar but I have only seen 1 video posted on there since I've been subscribed, just want to make sure I get my money's worth, i thought it was for exclusive/early content
This shit was lit. In my opinion WAAAY better than Acid Rap IMO. Jay Elec murdered this shit. (WHERE THE ALBUM JAY). But Acid Rap will always have a place in my heart as one of his most creative projects to me.
I disagree wit myke on chance sounding like future on the first two tracks but he did rap like young thug on mixtape. I loved it either way tho but I knew myke wasn't going to like it when I heard everyone else like it lol never happens unless it's Jay Rock
Ross Brennan I always thought it was a mixtape to try out new shit without being criticized, but Chance did great on this one. I'm sure he enjoyed that temporary Apple Music $$$. "Not a label" yeah, but still definitely not an independent artist.
Coloring Book is nowhere near as dope as Acid Rap to me. I only fuck with like 5 songs maybe. I wish there was more rapping instead of singing and a lot of the beats seemed to barely have any drums. Not a fan of a majority of the features, surprised by others. The mix was super off to me also, I could hardly hear some of the performers because they were so drowned out by the music.
Eh I found chance 3 to be his best project. Acid rap had alot of wack songs. Like Everybodys something, NaNa, smoke again...that song alone made me dissapointed to be an ab soul fan, and the outro was pretty weak. The "good ass intro" is alright as well. I also found that chance 3 is way more cohesive then acid rap.
Jersey Boi Vic I respectfully disagree. Chance's verses are hard to hear and not that impressive on Coloring Book. I like Chance the Rapper, not Chance the Singer or gospel enthusiast. I particularly don't like the features from CB either and overall the features on Acid Rap were more consistent. I doubt I'll ever come back to Coloring Book with exception to some of the better songs.
Ocean Sage Really? Because I found better bars on here than most on acid rap. Blessings and other songs had way more mature bars on here than acid rap. I cant fond myself saying acid rap had better utilization of its features. I mean again ab soul was just horrible. Action bronson was alright nothing that special. CB had the better features in my opinion and dfit the tone of the song and album as well. I mean Jay elec killed it, young thug and yachty especiallt surprised me on this. Future on smoke break was dope as well. What I like is that thesr features are there for a reason. Young thug and yatchy on mixtape make perfect sense. Kanye franted its not my favorite feature still was necessary on the song. Maybe its becasue you dont like chance singing or the gospel influence on this album. But I just think this is chances best project to date. Acid rap was goofy and fun but CB is more cohesive and mature. Which I find way better. Different strokes for different folk
Straight up, I've watched this video and so many others so many times over, and the fact that it entertains me and makes me feel happy really shows how amazing this show is. Love this channel, wanted to say thanks for making these videos
Anything's possible. But, for now, I wasn't digging it. I think I did mention Same Drugs but it got edited out. I liked the idea of the track but the song didn't do much for me.
Coloring Book is getting so much hype because the masses are finally hopping on to the Chance hype. Acid Rap was popular with heads' . He is officially mainstream. I can tell becuase females on my social media is hyping it. (No offense to my gender, but females typically don't pay attention to rap until its "popular") So yeah, if you saw the social media response from the non-hip-hop heads; you would be dissapointed. Its a decent mixtape....for sure. But its not life changing and honestly its nowhere near as good as Acid Rap, which to me was much more introspective. It was too many features on this; the Kanye feature was useless and his voice was horrible. Also why Mumble rap; just because your features do? Like Mixtape was a decent song but to me it was him trying to hard to be "mainstream". It sounds like everything else. I always liked that Chance made his own lane. He don't need to sound like Uzi Vert.
For as long as we waited for a follow up.....I expected more CHANCE. He needs to pull a Cole and just give us all Chance on an album. He could certainly pull it off. Didn't need that many features.
aay shout out to thr crew and modest media! appriciate the hard work! keep it up guys! And when are we gunna get the Sylvan Lacue Far from Familiar album review?
Also, I don't believe Chance was biting anyone's style either. I think it was more along the lines of adapting his flow so that he could fit better along with his features. So that their collective sounds are more in unison. That takes a lot of skill to me. And versatility.
Thank you Myke! I feel you on this! I'm a big fan of 10 Days, Acid Rap, and enjoyed Chance & Donnies Surf! But this project as a whole just wasn't hitting me. Myke is right, how Chance tried to adapt his flow to that of Futures, Jays, Thugs/Yatchys, etc. Chance, just do you man! And he just had way to many big name features ( I personally dislike Bieber, Yatchy, Future, 2chainz) so that added to the factor of why I didn't feel the entire project. He had the funds to clear all those features, but couldn't clear the sample for Grown Ass kid(with 2 of Chicago's popular artist atm Wiley and Mick)?? I still loved a handful of tracks, was glad to see his Chi family Saba, Tokio, Eryn on Vox, and of course NoName. I just feel the whole gospel thing, the commercial features, and the big deal with Apple for 2 weeks of streaming was too much. Chance can put out a solid project with minimal features, his own delivery, and offer it for sale to put him up for a well deserved Grammy. Yes I know Chance is entitled to create whatever kind of sound and project he wants but this is just how I felt, my perspective on Coloring Book.
Love your videos but can I make one recommendation? When you're editing, try adding the audio effect called "Low-Pass Filter" to remove the *hiss* sound on your mics.
Great review. This album is polarizing to me..in a similar way TPAB was. People are so use to a certain sound, or expect something that they're more familiar with, and when they don't get it, they don't know how to digest it. To me, I saw a huge improvement. A maturation in Chance. I enjoy 10 day and Acid Rap to this day, but coloring book is by far his best project. True, some of the gospel choruses may get a LITTLE long winded, but they're still so beautiful. The whole album is so dramatic, and thematic, and so...Chicago!! Lol definitely see the Kanye influences in it. The albums that have strayed from mainstream sound seem to get the best critical appraise from review sites but seem to not really resonate with the common listeners. Is it because Coloring Book is positive through and through? Even on the harder joints? Idk, it's AOTY right now for me! Coming from someone who really enjoyed Acid Rap. Same Chance..I just think his priorities of changed. And for the better.
Acid Rap is soooooooooooo much better than coloring books because overall it was more cohesive, it had a better overall sound and you could tell Chance was filled with raw creativity. Also acid rap has songs about a wide variety of relatable subjects like lost, everybody's something and cocoa butter kisses etc. In coloring books Chance has louder beats that just drench the tracks and it doesn't sound good especially on the first track when the beat was loud as hell and the Kanye comes over it even louder and with some robot shit . Also he used features that actually worked well with him on acid rap, on coloring books pretty much all the features were out of place. I understand he tried to go with a new sound with the gospel although acid rap had some beats that were kinda gospel influenced but on coloring book it was too much. Chance has been gone for 3 years and it seems like he came back and did some shit just for the sake of doing it. But he can't follow up Acid Rap wit this to me that is unacceptable it is very unorganized , none of it feels genuine, none of it feels thoughtful and I don't expect him to be a Kendrick Lamar where every track is super deep but don't give a song about how u the only nigga still care about mixtapes for all that make a song like Nana or favorite song , with a lively beat or catchy hook and energy. That dry trap type sound is not chance at all, it'd be ok if Chance just did these songs but they weren't a part of the follow up project to acid rap. And I was actually super sad when I heard this mixtape because when u take away Chance's originality and ability to make relatable songs or fun songs or songs that set a mood. I don't know what is left of Chance , it's not like he can't rap or he's not still creative but alot of these songs don't seem to fit him or the people accompanying him on them . I miss the old chano
I like Chance and I really wanted like the album it just didn't connect with me. It felt like one too many features. Juke Jam though. That shit is dope
He literally sounds the same to me every time I hear that dude rap. I can't listen to him regardless of what he's talking about lol. Also 26 tracks is WAY too long for a project
Never understood how this kid got poppin. I honestly feel like his artist name, mixtape name "Acid Rap", & Acid Rap's artwork tricked alot of people into thinking he was dope. He tries so hard to be different and i feel like people forced themselves to like his shit cause they wanna be different too lol idk man guess i just dont get it. dudes wack and a try-hard imho though
Lol, just because you personally didn't like it, doesn't mean everyone who does is "forcing themselves to". Get out of here with that simple simon ass logic. He's not "trying hard" for the sake of being different at all, you just don't like the music, don't find BS reasons to justify that. I can get that it's not for you, but you need to better articulate your problems with it, because the stuff you stated are objectively wrong.
haha calm down. opinions can't be "objectively wrong" dude...they're opinions. i'm not trying to justify anything either it's just an observation. i mean some people genuinely like his music sure but i really do feel the majority are in the situation i stated in my comment. you can't tell me its not facts because we both don't know but you can't tell me it's not possible either. i'm pretty good at finding talent and i still don't see what this kid has in him. that's all i was sayin.
Chance The Rapper is soooo fuckin overrated, everyone talks about how unique he is yet all he does bite Lil Wayne's '05-'07 raspy druggy flow and delivery and throw some generic gospel on top .
Only if every kinda high pitched voice is bitin Wayne. Look up Kendrick's early stuff that's some Lil Wayne fan worship but I don't hear it on Good Ass Intro
Pigeon Protector Its not about having a high pitched Voice Danny Brown doesn't sound like he's bitin Wayne. Anyway all I'm saying is he's not that unique and the way he incorporates gospel is pretty standard.
with Acid Rap, he kinda blended the Wayne flow with some reggae overtones, and a few other elements. He had the soul samples in there (Curtis Mayfield & Common from Chicago, Mavis Staples, etc) ... this thing sounds like Pablo to me
+Nobody Important Hopefully cuz I liked Smoke Break but the vocals were so low, I just dipped out. Chance ain't anyone special for me to overlook bad mixing.
If you're judging this off of a version of the mixtape that wasn't on Apple Music, you're opinion holds no weight. All the non-Apple Music versions were trash.
I kinda agree with Myke. I fucking love the majority of acid rap but was not feeling this from the second I put it on. Ps where dat Denzel Curry review fam.
I agree with Myke on this. I'm a big Chance fan but these are not the type of songs I wanted to here on this project. I wanted to hear Chance RAP. I don't want to hear mumbling ass Future and Young Thug, I want to hear Chance since I feel like he's a rapper that can definitely carry an entire project by himself. Too many features and not enough of chance rapping in my opinion. Then on the tracks he did rap more on like Summer Friends and How Great it took way too long to get to it, it took a whole minute to get to the rapping on Summer Friends and half the whole song for How Great. I thought it was alright, I still prefer Acid and 10 day. I just wish he would have done something like a J Cole and made a whole album w/o features and still kill it.
Regardless of whether it was a lot of the same or it had too much gospel influence as long as it made me feel good listening to it I'm down and that's exactly what it did for me. Every track (with the exception of mixtape) made me feel good inside and I appreciate Chance for that a lot.
My biggest problem with this record (which I like) is his flow copping on almost every song. On How Great, he flows like Jay Elec. On No Problem he tries to flow like Wayne. On Smoke Break he flows like Future. I just feel like there's only a couple points on the album where I feel like i'm really hearing Chance do his on style and it annoys me a bit.
IF U DONT GET THIS ALBUM READ THIS The whole album i feel was him talkin bout how he feels hes gettin blessing and hes the person he always feels like he wanted to be, but he realises things use to be better just because things change and u get older and so do people (like the song same drugs) and theres just mad nostalgia. Sn
I gotta agree with Myke I on this one. I LOVE Acid Rap! This is just okay to me. I was so disappointed personally. I like finish line, angels, no problem, blessings 2 and that's pretty much it.
