I'm glad I watched to the end to hear the story behind the bag because when I first saw the condition of it, thoughts of abuse and neglect went through my head. I had never seen a bag like that in such a sad condition. Again, an amazing transformation. And what a beautiful gift for the father to bestow on his daughter in loving memory of her mother. Where on earth did he get such an abused and mashed Chanel bag??? And how on earth did it get in that state if it was sentimental enough to want to restore it, given the current state of it? Mind blowing. But a fantastic job done, hands down. He brought it back to life. Literally!
I really do despise this throwaway culture the world has become. They just assume something has zero value because it’s been tattered. Yet you breath life back into these pieces that people clearly cherish because they came to you for the repair INSTEAD of buying a new item. I love what you do. Keep it up.

It’s such a pleasure to watch the obvious skill you have Steve restoring bags, shoes and ... I do I spy a jacket behind you? To see you have customers who appreciate and want to take care of these possessions makes me very happy, The story behind the bag made me tear up. They are not that expensive pre lobed market, you did a nice job restoring this one. I'm amazed polishing the hardware with steel wool doesn't scratch off the gold. It must have just had minimal wear and just a lotta water damage. The puffy quilts look awesome and the bag's owner will have another 20 years enjoyment now. Nice one Mr Bedo!

Thank you for caring so much! Some people are worried about lost of value and authenticity. While some ( your clients) are more about the story. The sentimental value or even how comfortable the old bag is to use. Not to resell.
Agreed. But then again reselling has a place. The quality of new products is deteriorating, and people buy and throw out without thinking of the impact on our environment. The fact that some fashion houses won't restore some models means they are vulnerable to being thrown out. Restoration even by not officially approved leather workers is infinitely preferable to throwing an item out. The resale market is seen as a threat to fashion houses who want to have us all buy new, with the deteriorating quality a bonus for their profits. While some think 'vegan' non leather options are worthwhile, the reality that PVC takes 1000 years to decompose in landfills.(sorry if that sounds whiny or lecturing but it is sadly true!). If we can reduce that impact by reusing and recycling, and not consuming for the sake of it, all to the better. Natural leather is much less impactful than plastic, so I back resellers who also restore. JIMO.
Touching my mother's Chanel purse gave me a special feeling of warmth and comfort after her passing. My sisters kept the good stuff, but I kept a flacon de perfume of hers. and when I miss her I like to smell the fragrance.

I am staying home sick today and I've been watching your RU-vid videos nonstop. This is so inspiring. The story of this bag and the incredible work you did on it is exactly why I want to work in leather repair. I love buying old used and beat up quality leather designer bags and shoes and restoring them as a hobby but eventually would like to do this professionally. Unfortunately I'm living in Germany and don't speak german well enough yet so trying to find a school or apprenticeship here is difficult. Also sadly I had to leave all my tools and scrap leather back in California so I haven't even been able to do it as a hobby here. My father passed away unexpectedly 4 years ago and i inherited his leather and tools. It's nothing much but it was enough to get me started. I hate how modern society is often focused on just buying new cheap quality things instead of buying and repairing quality items. I have a Chanel bag that is in really nice condition that i saved and saved and paid over 2000 for. Of course I've probably used it a total of 10 times in 7 years because I'm so scared of damaging it. So big thank you also for inspiring me to just use my bags and enjoy them. Because either I, or someone, is skillful enough to repair them.

it may have just been in storage for a very long time. They may not have known how to store leather properly, and that happens in humid/damp conditions..
It’s not often you see Steve wearing gloves while not dying something. That bag was toxic before it was so professionally restored. Another great job 👍

Done! I just arrive from the old town. I also explained the circonstances. Here in Europe you still find people that work of there talent (but less and less) I did not think that there where some in USA (sorry) People buy and throw in the garbage.
My dad bought a $3k purse just like this for my mother. She was petite and the bag was too heavy. She gave it to her housekeeper. What an amazing dad. Great job!
