I've reviewed quite a few sheer to medium coverage foundations recently, but when a hydrating foundation was released from Chanel, I had to get my hands on it. Let's see how it will wear on my over 40 dry combination skin.

My skin type is combi/dry most of the month, but when hormonal, my skin gets very oily around my t-zone. It's very unpredictable (thanks skin) and I suffer from breakouts (mostly hormonal breakouts...thanks again hormones!)

I think the oxidation is actually quite good on you... there’s a warmth to it and one of the prettiest looks you’ve shared. Hair, makeup, skin ... very youthful.

This is how I use this product: a small quantity on my makeup plate and "tap" the foundation on my face with a foundation brush. It looks very natural and beautiful, like real skin. One thing to avoid (in my opinion) is to use a larger quantity with a brush because then it can look that you are wearing too much and it can look like paint.

I'm still old fashioned 🙈 I always use my fingers ,I cant get to grips with a sponge or brush . Also I find foundation always look better with fingers 🤷‍♀️😆 You look amazing today x

Lisa Smith I don’t really like using my fingers but I agree, you get better application, I think the heat of fingers helps meld it in better with the skin and look more skin like.

I use the fingers in applying it too its quicker.also you don't waste the product because with a brush most of it ends up on the brush .same with a sponge.

I agree. When I use a glitter or shimmer eyeshadow it never looks that smooth and seamless. How does she make it look that good? When I apply a shimmer on my eyelids, it makes my eyes look old. Pls show me how to apply a shimmer/glitter on a mature face. 🙏😊💖

Thanks for the review. Was wondering if I should be getting this foundation since it was released and your review convinced me. Going to Chanel website now to order! I like the Chanel fragrance on their cosmetics, so wouldn’t be a problem for me. Been using Chanel for many years now and have not been disappointed.

My skin has been very sensitive lately especially now that I'm wearing a mask more often. I was using a liquid foundation before wearing the mask. My skin wasn't happy with the liquid foundation anymore so this product is now retired, Lol I've noticed since I'm using my mineral foundation again my skin isn't irritated :) Great video Gemma you look lovely as always ♥ Take care everyone :)

I completely agree on the skin irritation part and I've switched to my MUFE skin blurring powder foundation. I was getting "maskne" (mask acne) before.

Just to say Gemma your eye makeup looks stunning tonight! Think I’ll be giving this foundation a miss however, you lost me when you said it oxidises and transfers over everything. I can’t see the point of paying a lot of money or trying to colour match foundations that oxidise when there are plenty of good foundations that don’t i.e. Estée Lauder Double Wear Light. Also the scent would put me off (what is the point of putting scent in foundation?). Very helpful informative video from you as usual😊💗

Adore your eye look in this video Gemma.... I wear a similar eye look and it looks great on blondes. I have this foundation on and I love it. I apply all my foundation with my fingers as I hate brush application and I'm too lazy at 5.50 am to damp a sponge 😂. I set this foundation at 6.05 this morning and I'm still wearing it at 10.15pm.....it does have a dried down increase in colour and I set mine with NYX loose finishing powder (my hero product) and it still looks perfect and virtually no transfer.... But I did set it well. If you don't like wearing setting powder then this will transfer but set well I love it x

I won't be buying it on the strength of this review. I'd like the dewiness and moisturising properties but fragrance, oxidisation and transfer put me off.

Here in Canada/Toronto there are NO samples as well. But there are a few places that they ask you your shade and give a paper a dot of sample and a cotton swab to test.

Vitalumiere Aqua is lighter in coverage and has more of a natural-matte finish compared to the new Les Beiges foundation.

EXCELLENT and honest review! No matter if the shade changed a little, you looked beautiful in the end result!! Will you be wearing it again, that is, if you got a bottle rather than sample. Or will you purchase it for yourself, if you used a sample for the review? Thank you, Gemma🤗 Oh, also, wondering if you find yourself wearing less foundation/makeup because of the Mask thing? 😷 I'm in 100% agreement with you that one coat of a foundation should be all that is required to get a nice result, enough to wear for the day, possibly with the exception of maybe a spot here & there to hide a little mark that you would prefer not to use concealer on..👍🏼

I have le teint ultra foundation (luminous matte finish) and i can tell you that it oxidize a lot (shade less) very dry and only works with fast brush aplicacion...im oily but i have some problems with it...i have also the velvet one...im mixing both...i try also this one and i like it with some powder as usual...love the chanel foundation

I dont know why it seems the same foundation but i saw a lots of reviews and dont look the same,here its Le Teint Ultra flawless foundation luminous matte finish and it have spf15 (i just bought it)...looks like not the same as in US (no spf)??? There is no other versión here in Spain

KataM Ultra Le Teint is the latest one, no spf. Strangely though, it is not sold in France where they still sell the old Le Teint Ultra with spf. You can still find it here in the UK in limited colours, but the newest one is sold in department stores and Boots. Chanel les beiges is great, so much better than the old version.

Very nice review ❤️❤️ I was curious about this foundation, so good timing with this review 👌💕 Yeah, no testing or sampling makeup any more. I also went to Debenhams to the urban decay stand and I wasn't allowed to touch the eyeshadow palette before purchasing...I could only look at it and buy. Luckily, I knew what I was looking for.

Nah, not for me. May be just me, but I don't like the Chanel scent and I've found that foundations with a lingering perfume actually clash with my own perfume! It does look pretty, however, it's not groundbreaking at all. Arghhhhhhh, your eyes are gorgeous, I love the ND mini palettes, 💗❣💗❣💗❣💗

I don't know if you've done it already but id love to see you try the Guerlain L'Essenteil Natural Longwear Foundation. Ive seen one person try it and it was BEAUTIFUL. Pricey (60$ US) but it also has spf 20 and skincare in it.

Can you explain what it means when a foundation oxidizes? Is it a bad thing meaning the foundation won’t last as long? Or does it just means the color turns darker after you put it on?

I bought Guerlain L’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation 7 months ago. I had to give it away after 2 uses because of the strong perfume I ended up having an asthma attach. Hahaha! It makes me laugh each time I remember the episode. Anyway, I wonder if the Chanel’s perfume scent on the foundation will do the same?

Gemma I notice you always say you have already applied your normal skin prep (not your words) before you try a new foundation. I always wonder what that includes. You mentioned moisturizer today and I know you use a sun protectant. Do you also use a makeup primer under your foundation? If so is it always the same one?

I’m only half way through your review, my thoughts on shade are that 21 could be good for you. It kind of seems a bit too peachy, the one you have, on you. I had BD21, I’m not sure if it’s on the pale side but my slightly golden/green with slight peach undertone (yeh makes no sense) makes it a pain in the a$$ to find a good match.

Your eye makeup reminds me of a question I have been wanting to ask for awhile now. Here goes. If your foundation undertone is cool, neutral or warm does that mean that the eyeshadow colours you wear should be in the same palette? Wayne Goss's new palette is being described as warm but the new Natasha Denona palette is being described as cool toned. How do you choose a palette that will be hopefully be the better choice?

Of the other reviewers I’ve seen, who love it (dry, mature, skin), all used a sponge. And preferred that to a brush. So, maybe next time, try a sponge? All reported no sinking into lines too. I can’t wait to try it - it’s not here yet, unfortunately 🇨🇦. Funny, no one else I watched had oxidation. Maybe it’s how it’s mixing with your skin care or shin chemistry? PS, This may have fragrance, but at least it doesn’t have the bad alcohols Chanel foundations often contain 👍

If u powder it ,it wont transfer,i use the koh gen do moisture powder 2 set this foundation & it doesn't transfer,i can imagine if its not marketed as a matte foundation,if u dnt set it with powder, then i think most foundations woud transfer.also as far as the scent i can only smell it wen the foundation is liquid wen im initially applying it,but as soon as i set it with powder & it dries down,i cant smell it at all,which is a shame bc its a lovely fresh scent but it doesn't last 4 me,u must have a sensitive sense of smell or b sensitive 2 scents bc it disapates very quickly 4me..but i really do love the scent of this foundation..ive only been using this foundation 4 a couple months but decided 2 watch ur review bc u said u had dry skin like i do & 4me it works wel 4 my dry skin & was wondering if it was also helping others with my skin type, bc i think its 1 of the rare foundations that actually do wat it says it wil,i have tried many foundations from the drugstore 2 highend with their claims of being moisturizing 4dry skin or even severely dry skin & they'l claim 2 have hyaluronic acid & watever else they say is good 4 dry skin,& unfortunately they end up being a waste of money & stil feel dry on my skin, this is 1 of the few foundations that says its hydrating nourishing 4 dry skin& its the truth,that makes it worth the high price2 me.

I feel exactly the same about Chanel. As soon as a beautifully wrapped parcel arrived I do a physical happy dance. My fave shop to buy from is out of stock on this foundation but I will give it a go as soon as it’s available again! Question for you for someone considering Botox... what sort of questions should be asked of the clinician? I am 48 and even though I said never, it’s now time to try it (we are also hoping it will help with migraines) and as you were a specialist I was wondering what I need to know from my specialist before I go ahead. For me its really important to get personal recommendations. If you don't know of anyone then ask for references from the doctor. I always go for someone who does the job and specialises in it rather than a dentist that sometimes does botox. The more regularly they do it, the more problems they've already seen and overcome and also the less you'll bruise, and the less problems you'll have as they're very experienced. I also recommend a doctor or nurse as they'll be able to write a prescription for you if something does go wrong. When you enter the surgery you need to be specific about what you want and expect from the treatment. I personally made the doctor aware I didn't want my brows to droop and didn't want a brow lift so I looked permanently surprised. I wanted the botox to look as natural as possible. I didn't want to look frozen and plastic. If you want help with migraines you need to ask what the side effects might be...will your face look different and if so, how? I'd like to say that botox is a fairly low risk procedure, but everyone is different and there's always a risk when you are injecting anything into your body. The face is full of nerves and small blood vessels so finding the right person for the job is key. Hope that helps xxx

Pampered Wolf thank you so very much for that info. I do have a personal recommendation from someone and I would never have known she had it as she still had some movement and looked very natural. Hi Gemma, I have the Chanel Ultra Le Teint (ultrawear, all-day comfort, flawless finish foundation). I found this foundation to be thick and heavy and yes, transferable. However, I found Believe ($5.00) foundation in the same color, thinner and covers the same. I had to purchase a thinner for the Chanel in order to use it. Could have returned it, but just didn't. So, not a fan of Chanel foundation and boy, does it have a "fragrance."

I like this foundation but bc i have more of a golden undertone i wear it in the bd41,maybe u shouldv used the bd21 instead of b20 bc i think the b20 pulls more peachy than golden & ur skintone looks more golden tone or yellow tone,i think bd21 woudv worked wel 4 u with this foundation..i like this foundation also bc my skin is dry & its very hydrating..i havnt tried it with a brush yet but since the brush makes my other chanel foundation look smoother maybe nex time i wear this 1 il try it with a brush..bd21 or bd30 woud look better 4 ur skintone , there's so many names 4 my skintone people either say u have olive, yellow or goldentone,i like goldentone the most & i think wat u have2 so if u wear foundation thats 2 pink or peach it doesn't match wel ,but it doesnt look bad,just not a perfect match

I noticed on the website in the US that Chanel has B30 and then just 30. I assume other shades have this designation? I’m wondering what the difference is so I haven’t ordered this yet.

B = neutral undertone, BD = golden undertone and BR = cool/pink undertone. If you only see the number, it's their old shade system which they're trying to move away from since it was confusing because you couldn't quite tell the undertone without trying it in store. Hope that helps.

I use a brush with the chanel sublimage serum foundation bc with that foundation u pretty much have2 use a brush & it also comes with a good brush,I think it comes with a brush bc that particular foundation doesn't apply smoothly 4 some odd reason without a brush...but 4 pretty much every other foundation I use my fingers & I'm getting kind of weirded out with people being so adverse 2 using their hands wen applying foundation, wats the problem u can wash ur hands B4 & after applying,& they r after all ur hands,& u apply ur skincare with ur hands so not sure y so many people act like it's the kiss of death 🤔
