It's an reenactment. Seoul city recruits several workers for this part-time job. Joseon Dynasty(former state of ROK) left a massive amount of documents describing national events in form of paintings. These documents are called Ui-gwe(儀軌)s. We referred to these documents a lot.

Yes, you can pretty much take pictures anytime and they did announce that at a certain point, we could walk right up to the guards and take photos and film them, which I obviously did.

ThatDutchguy well that is true...but the changing of the guard is a ceremonial and a way to keep the tradition of the Josen dynasty. Also this is a way to give a glimpse the foreign people of the Josen dynasty.

ThatDutchguy well most of these are just a culture fest and the guards are volunteers. Also the total house of Josen are mostly gone, there are those who survived the occupation but the actual royal line are history.

@@nathanjangs I read the Joseon royal line is gone due to Japan occupation doing by made the royals cant have the heir/child. Such cruel way to end the other monarch by ending their bloodline I think.

@@rianaZeinF Well you are right as during the occupation, most of the noble princes married the Japanese imperial princess, thus making them traitors as Korea was liberated and gained their independence. I know from the history of pre-korean war, that any Korean collaborated with the Imperial Japanese government are no longer welcomed and are banished, even if they were forced to collaborate.

This has nothing to do with Japan. It's a re-enactment of an ancient Korean military ritual, and we still do it today so people can see it and have fun.

It was banned in the late Ming Dynasty.(弘治帝,1470~1505)
