Here we are going to talk about the power steering pump on a nissan patrol y60 ditto for Y61 GQ GU
The power steering pump is there to improve your driving comfort by making your steering wheel easily maneuverable when you drive. It is part of a hydraulic system and is used to pressurize the steering fluid before sending it to the rack.
Whether it is due to old age or because we have mistreated our vehicle, syndromes may be triggered.
An abnormal whistling or rumbling sound is audible: a power steering problem is often accompanied by unusual noises. When you turn the steering wheel, you may hear a dull squeal which indicates that the power steering is out of order.
In our case, after hitting a pothole on an offroad track, a noise related to the engine speed appeared. Being at 50 kmh in forward gear, a reverse noise was heard with the engine speed. as well as when stopped the steering was difficult and we could faintly hear the noise, a sudden acceleration and the noise came back even louder. This symptom therefore directs us not towards the running gear but towards the engine or what is driven by the engine and therefore the accessory belts.
After opening the hood I notice that the steering fluid is flowing through the reservoir.
While browsing the forums I noticed that it is linked to an endless screw inside the power steering pump which discharges liquid towards the reservoir.
