Please use this video as an aid for your repair manuals. excuse my accidentally saying valve seals Im an idiot on the camera but consult your manual for any parts I missed. feel free to leave comments and good luck.
Thank you for taking the time to make that video! I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer with the same engine. This helped me to get mine repaired without the expense of a shop. I just had it replaced last year, and it has to be replaced again because they didn't replace the spark plug tube seals.
I'm glad for RU-vid , but people like you that actually takes the time to load it up and with great explanations. Thank you!! And about them dogs, hey great background noise. Lol. Thanks again.
Even thou my car is an eclipse, the engines are very similar. Thank you for share this work. Now I know what to expect from my mechanic. Next time I will do the job myself. Thank again.
@ s carter, that is a good point I should have mentioned it. I used s plastic scraper to get the gasket out,but mine was still all one piece. it is like you say possible that the rubber can dry out and either off in pieces. So do not remove old gasket from cover while over the exposed engine, and should you need to pry stuck in gasket do not use hard metal that may warp the cover. this is stated in manuals as well.
One thing to keep in mind, dude.....NEVER use your torque wrench to loosen bolts or nuts!!! Torque wrenches are precision tools that need to be accurate and to stay accurate you must not use them for the common task of loosening bolts and nuts. You will lose that accuracy. Use a regular box or ratchet wrench for that task. Tongue wrenches have an ability to tighten in two directions so that you can torque down bolts that are "reverse" threaded.
Good vid man just a bit of advice tho never break bolts free with your torque wrench it throws the calibration off just a bit of advice Ik those torque wrenches are usually pretty damn expensive but good vid Man thanks
Thanks, this was one of my first vids. I have an evo X now and yes i dont use my torque wrench to break the bolts.I have learned better now. Thanks for the advice and comment
good video however you forgot to show changing the valve cover gasket which can be a nightmare because the gasket gets hardened and is very hard to remove from the groove in the cover, many instances the valve cover can be damaged beyond repair.
Funny how I had to come see a sohc Mitsubishi Galant valve cover removal video to do the same on my 04 2dr Chrysler Sebring. Even my Haynes manual don't show the sohc in detail, everything else BUT this engine lol.
Allan Rimban hope it was helpful, if u want manuals I would check forums or check out alldatadiy.com you can sign up for a subscription for about 25 dollars for 5 years of use
Great video man. I need to do the same but not to sound like a rookie but would I notice the difference from changing this gasket? My plugs are wet and the outter engine is dirty. Just wondering what I would gain. Doesnt look hard to do. Is it relatively easy? Thanks for the help
On the actual cover do you need to put any RVT into the grove or just the gasket? I have swapped the gasket many times and get the damn leak again. Great info tho, i didn’t know about the RVT on the top of the tube seals
my 94 galant with sohc has a oil leak, (front passenger corner of rocket cover and has slight oil in plugs 4 and 3 (passenger side), starter hates me, and there is a plug on front side of trans that is caked in oil
it should be able to come off. obviously make sure the accelerator cable and stuff is taken off and any harnesses are out of the way. but if it's sticking tough I would use a Plastic paint scraper to get it started try not to poke at the gasket but find a spot to push the scraper in enough to pry an opening you don't want to warp the cover or push gasket pieces into the engine
i got a dumb question i change my gasket just like in the video but she is still leaking around the gasket is there in thing i can put around the gasket to help close it from leaking?????
Cori Walker is it coming from spark plug area on top or around the edge of the whole thing? I haven't used them but someone makes a traditional type gasket that I light blue. I am not sure of the brand.
Sorry to get back to you so late. I have no clue how that could happen. perhaps piece of old gasket or other foreign material fell into a coolant passage and blocked flow. but the I have never heard of that happening. I would be interested to know what you found out.
I have an eclipse , it leaks oil and overheats , I ordered the head gaskit part on eBay for 40 bucks , how much do u think a mechanic would charge to fix it ? Pls someone let me know
Go to search tearstone eclipse. Go to the site and there are .pdf manuals there for the 6 and 4 cyl engine of 3g eclipse which is also a 4g64. Thatsbwhere i looked to see
also the gasket for my valve cover git into a groove in the valve cover and I can't for the life of me remove them. I tried gasket remover and a couple other suggestions. I'm trying not to damage the cover
I think I tried that. It was on of those flat spatula looking things you get with the drywall repair compound. Is it possible it's just locked in there and won't come out?
thanks for the quick response! did you see my second question? I'm about to put a flat head screw driver or something to my valve cover gasket. It is hardened inside the groove of the cover
+Ryan Ricketts yes I did use luke a plastic paint scraper instead u don't want to use anything harder than the valve cover it will gouge and never seal quite right.
Ryan Ricketts i used a torch n flat screwdriver to heat the metal under the gasket n pried it out with the screwdriver.. came out nice n clean tht way before i tried everything n i was thinkin i was gna have to get a new cover cuz it wuldnt come out then i found tht method lol!
I have a 2002 Mitsubishi eclipse Spyder GT 3.0L v6 that needs a a valve gasket cover. anyone know how much that would run me? not at a dealer with manual labor?
I have a 4g15 and I think these engines are quite similar...now I am confused about one thing, does the manual state we need to put in some permatex rtv? if yes which RTV exactly, locally where I am the following RTV are available: 7mart.pk/?s=rtv&post_type=product , could you guide me exactly which one to use? Also how much and how to apply it, would really appreciate your guidance.
