I would be hard pressed to name anything I have enjoyed more these last several years than your videos. They feel like a refuge in a storm to me. No politics, no wise cracks about current events, no religion other than a general appreciation of a higher power. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar! Love to see more of the mules and draft animals working. Loved the videos of the twenty mule team!

My sentiments exactly, and I've often thought that even if I can't put together a workshop to build life-sized wheels and wagons, I've learned so much about how they are built and adjusted, optimized for strength and durability, that I can at least make a pretty good scale model on my workbench. These videos are very often the stuff that dreams are made of.

For the people "commenting" on Dave's use of modern tools, equipment and techniques: There's a big difference between being a display in a living history museum and being a man earning his living in his own business.

I agree. Dave has to make a living, thus the use of modern tools. But... What I really respect about his work is how often he follows up with a rasp after an electric sander or a few blows by hand after the drop hammer has done it's work. Let the machines do their work, but it is hidden by a little hand finishing.

Without any one knowing I showed up with primer, paint and a new custom shaped hardwood handle with a new bolt. Truck's blew the air horn when making the bend.It really put life back into the front porch. Thanks for all your help on how to go about it and not give in when only hand tools are the answer. As a fellow wheel- and wainwright (Valley Carriage Works, Dollywood, now gone), I want to thank you for this video library. As a child I grew up on westerns, and I fell in love with the books of Edwin Tunis (a historian and illustrator of America's past) and desired to learn to build wagon wheels. At 20 yoa or so, I was asked to rebuild a set of wheels for a neighbor. He only had the hubs, and wanted very short spokes (the bane of the wheelwright). I took on the job and with the help of an old blacksmith and wheelwright in North Georgia (Judd Nelson) to set the tires, I got he job done. and to my neighbor's satisfaction. Years later, I began work at Dollywood as an apprentice blacksmith, and later in the carriage shop. Dream come true! I hope that your video library inspires young folk to follow their dreams and embrace the knowledge of the past to fulfill them! I salute you!

Like the rest of the world, the north of Australia was built on the back of a bullock team. Today the only trace that survives is the odd axle in a fence. I don't think I have ever seen a wagon or coach, doubt I ever will see one in real life but I have watched every video. It has been the small things that have made the most impact. I have been using rivets for 20 years, and not until watching these videos did I find out I was actually bending wire in holes, my hammer and hand were too heavy, still a way to go but I am finally setting rivets for the first time. Also early days but I also started spinning my G clamps, it seems so logical I can't work out how I never saw it before, I guess that is what happens being so remote with no real tradesmen to learn from. Thank you Dave. This is the best TV that has ever been made.

Very nicely done. I enjoy watching your videos that pop up in my recommendations, and am impressed with your knowledge and attention to detail. Thank you, and I look forward to watching as long as you are willing to continue sharing your knowledge.

One day these may be all that’s left of how to build and rebuild these items. When you’re through, 50 more years or so maybe the state will turn your business into a museum and preserve all the videos you’ve made. Like I have said a few times before, I would really wish I could go to your shop and have you teach me the wheelwright trade, but i have my both of my grandson's and it would be hard to do so. Even though I think they would love to see what you do but I don't think that they could take the task for doing the same things over and over. But I did historical restoration work when I was young as well as cabinet making and trim carpentry, I know how that is to repeat the same thing over and over.
