When a customer asked me if I could build this piece of wall art as part of a larger job we were doing, I was happy to take off my designer hat and get to be a little more creative for an hour or so. This project is a perfect example of how you can make your tools pay for themselves by not being afraid to tackle "out of the box" projects. Of course, the project was made much easier by the TruWeld Stud Welding TWI-321: bit.ly/TruWeld

I don't always comment on your or others' videos, but I watch every one of yours! They are very informative and I truly enjoy them all! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

Not just your eyes but your helper didn't have his on either. I'm a 64 year old fabricator that did lots of stuff before ear plugs were so handy. You're right tinitis sucks.

Man, the time that stud welder saves in a busy shop it would soon pay for itself. I love your work and the fact that you go that little extra mile such as painting the wall, which really made that sign Pop! Great video, looking forward to seeing more in the New Year...hope it's a good one.

I live in Yukon and would love to learn stuff from you. I am a blank slate as far as welding goes, but I'm eager to work and learn. I'm a veteran and lost my job of 8 years due to daytime fatigue caused by sleep apnea. I'm wide awake when I'm learning something I'm actually interested in though! 😊

They're awesome until you (try to) clean them. I use it because I have it, struggle to recommend them over throw away $20 harbor freight air sprayers.

you have an older video--2 years---about making an illuminated sign. you used a piece of plastic to diffuse led light coming from the box. just wondering what type of plastic it was. thanks in advance. thanks for sharing all the information.

Polycarbonate or acrylic, both will work fine. Please ask questions on the relevant video so others can benefit too.

Is hard trying to get a hobby welding shop profitable. Still working on basic welding skills. Any tips on how to "keep it together" mentally until the hobby level shop pays for itself?

It just takes time and getting your name out there. Bid high sometimes. You'll enjoy the win.

@@42Fab, how about a ball-shaped sculpture made from 2ft sqaures, where the silhouette is an octagon in front of the shop, as my "roadside sign"? One artist said go big with 3ft sqaures, but can't fit that through the garage door of the shop.

I'm gonna disagree with you on "when" to buy a Stud Welder... if you are into metal art or signage, get it right away. Especially if you have a helper in the shop. Paying someone to tack weld posts or grind off bolt heads ends up costing you more than the initial purchase of the stud welder. Also, I'm gonna suggest picking one up off Aliexpress for about 1/2 to 2/3rds the cost of a brand name one. They all work the same. It's a bank of capacitors that get charged up. Not complicated nor necessarily "proprietary". When you start to make some good money, invest later on in one that's from a more "popular" company made locally, if you are so inclined. But getting your foot into the door, at a lower cost of entry will greatly improve your workflow, especially when starting out. You can be more competitive and complete projects faster. Lesson learned the hard way... it took me 10 years to finally "get around to buying" a stud welder, and I feel stupid for not having done so sooner. Same thing with a hydraulic punch and a mag drill. HUGE time savers.

Mike Rowe is one of my heroes, due in large part to his respect for actual work and realistic takes on many work topics. I disagree on a few bits, but respect the experience and viewpoint. He did a controversial video a while back on safety that you and your viewers may appreciate: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Km8XxRCuCho.html

First thing i do with a grinder, even before i plug it it is take off the f#kn guard and throw it in the scrap bucket...
@42Fab
@42Fab 4 года назад
Can't say I go that far, but I get it. We actually keep a grinder with and one without a guard loaded with cut off wheels, they're the only time I really feel the need to use a guard, especially if it's a situation where the metal could move and pinch the disk.

@@42Fab Thanks for the reply! Those in the real world understand how to safely take calculated risks. Experience teaches us how to do things efficiently. Its still fun to ruffle the feathers of the millennials that need to wrap themselves in bubble wrap before they use their walmart tool sets....

then wait till it snags in something jumps and slits your ball sack open, or a disc explodes and sticks in your nose. both have happened happened to mates that took them off Ive yet to find a reason to need to take them off, yes it might be easier to see where your cutting but id sooner my balls and face intact
