Characters in the Collection: Charles Davis: American Dream 

I can't think of a better real life representation of author Horatio Alger's Hero than Charles Davis. Alger wrote well over 100 stories, and most followed the same formula: A young down-on-their-luck man is working hard at a low-paying job, is unwilling to compromise strong moral character, and is granted an opportunity by someone in a better position in life to accomplish the American Dream.
