Just to make things clear...it is not charging the whole battery in 20 seconds... This system is only topping up the battery as much as possible in 20 seconds (when passengers are boarding and deboarding the bus). Charging points are maintained at each and every bus stop.

Electric Vehicles I am thankful for ur valuable information.... and for educating many people about electric vehicles trends .... great work... My small request is Every one thing driving a electric vehicle is eco friendly but but they are forgetting the fact that they charge the vehicle with coal power power plants which is ultimately harmful. So I request to to focus not only on e vehicles 🚗 but also on renewable energy such as 💨 wind, solar, ocean.
@chrisar6068
@chrisar6068 4 года назад
@@samueldavid2448 Even if the an ev was charged with 100% coal electricity it would be less CO2 emitting when compared to an EQUIVALENT ICE vehicle. Because of the better energy management ability of EV systems. Why are hybrids and PHEVs more efficient than the basic ICE vehicles? Most grids have some level of renewable energy anyway and as renewables are the cheapest form of energy their share is always increasing.
@mandeepsingh-px3xq
@mandeepsingh-px3xq 4 года назад
@@chrisar6068 i doubt that a coal charged EV is less polluting than an ICE vehicle. Remember coal fired plants are less efficient than most ICEs. Plus there are electricity transmission losses. Same reason electric locos are not as energy efficient as Diesel locos. The only advantage, at the moment, is that pollution happens at the power plant, not at the exhaust. Let's hope we make the switch to renewable/nuclear soon.
@chrisar6068
@chrisar6068 4 года назад
@@mandeepsingh-px3xq I disagree with most of what you say. Coal plants globally are typically 37% up to low 40s for the latest Japanese versions. ICE are typically 20 to 35% at the engine, however torque is transmitted via a transmission at 1st and 2nd gear the efficiency is very low. Next issue, braking; all the energy to accelerate is lost, so final efficiency on the road from point A to point B is more like 7% to 9%.

What isn't said is the battery packs are changed out on a regular basis because the rapid charging only charges to 70% and such rapid charging degades / damages battery life significantly, to get the most life out of the battery packs they are changed out 2 / 3 times a week and go through a slow conditioning cycle of slow charge and discharge cycles that take about a week each pack to recondition battery packs requiring a lot of electrical energy, it is not an efficient way of running electric mass transit but it scores political browny points with the masses.

From my understanding I believe the batteries must have been charged to the max initially and whenever the Bus makes a stop(in our case a charging point) the lost energy is charged again to keep the batteries above the threshold point and the cycle continues. #So charging in 20sec may be "the magic word" for marketing 🤔. #The big drawback might the batteries, we might have to end up replacing the batteries often since we charge the batteries every now and then considering the batteries charging cycles.
@deepak_nigwal

they didnt tell if they charge it from low (or zero) to maximum (or 100) capacity in 20 sec... :( in other words, its just a catchy marketing strategy, but still really far far away from countries like India. So, just fuck off.

First of all it's not a battery, they are Ultracapacitors , battery can't withstand that much high current as it have too much resistance, but on other side capacitors have too low resistance so they can be charge with huge current without toomuch heating , the disadvantage of capacitor is they can hold too little energy than batteries of same size and weight , so those bus need to be charged too frequently actually on every bus stop , but i like the concept as ultra capacitors technology is making progress rapidly, one day there will be graphene super capacitors which will overtake conventional batteries in every way ...! it's so cool technology 😊

In 20s a bus can charge 3 kWh. With a consumption of 1 kWh/km you need a lot of charging points. Therefore this is called "opportunity charging" and it only adds charge to the battery a little bit every time. The bus is then fully charged overnight with slower chargers. So, the flash/opportunity chargers are basically range extenders. The trend is to use larger batteries with every new model so less opportunity chargers are needed in the future. Great tech. In the Netherlands more than 10% of all busses in public transport are now electric (January 2020), 70% in 2025 and 100% in 2030.

A supercapacitor (SC), also called an ultracapacitor, is a high-capacity capacitor with a capacitance value much higher than other capacitors, but with lower voltage limits, that bridges the gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable batteries. It typically stores 10 to 100 times more energy per unit volume or mass than electrolytic capacitors, can accept and deliver charge much faster than batteries, and tolerates many more charge and discharge cycles than rechargeable batteries.
