This is a basic guide to setting up basic events and smart events on your HikVision NVR.
You may have event notifications set up already or you may not have had them done by your installer. Here is how to set them, amend them and adjust to reduce false alerts.

Thanks for this video. Things make more sense now. I have an issue with my front colorvue camera I park my car on the drive but I get alerts from passing car lights reflecting on the side of my car. I'm using line detection. Would i be better using a zone detection and setting it to human only. If I move my line it does not cover the car cheers Gary

Hi, it's a very useful video. I have a question - we have 6 cameras I am unable to set up both basic motion and smart events at a time. Are there any limitations on it? I was trying to disable basic motion events to enable smart events like line crossing but it's not letting me save more than 4 out of 6 cameras. Can you make one video considering all scenarios, please? Thanks in advance.

I would like to ask. Is it possible to have continuous recording and event recording set at the same time... So that I would have recored everything and if I would like to found some specific event I can easily found did it when happens?

They are all relatively the same for home use so if its a 7616 K2 then you should be fine for most uses.

Hi Marc, unlikely any will offer a trade in unfortunately you will always sell equipment like HikVision on eBay though as there is always a market for it. We can supply you with an I series if you need it and happy to guide you through the swapping out of hard disks from your old one and the setup of the new unit. Thanks for making this video. We are not using any smart event nor do we have dynamic analysis ticked. We have unticked human and car and have drawn a pattern which is just on our property so cars driving past should not trigger an event. The weird thing is that even though you can see cars driving past and they dont come anywhere near the green line, the recorder still triggers and records. Its very frustrating. What could be the issue? NVR and cameras have current 2022 firmware. We are only using basic event and only want to start recording when something moves within green shape.

The reason is because its garbage, no matter what you do it'll trigger an event, then because of this, your hard drive will fill up, then in 6 to 8 months you'll have an abnormal hard drive 💾

@@fuzzylogic33 just caught a batch of comments you seem really sour so guessing your having some issues yourself. Biggest issue with false alerts is because the cameras aren’t located in the right places. A 4MP camera has a focal range of 2.5-4M roughly and you get loads of these fitted on soffits 5M from the ground pointing downward. So things like Human detection won’t ever really work as your not seeing Human form through the field of you your looking down on head and shoulders. Your NVR/Camera and computers see pixels they do not have the capability of understanding what is physically there, there is no depth unlike us looking at an image. So if you locate them badly you might aswell forget smart alerts of any kind.

I have an M series NVR I just got. Is it possible to turn on the Smart Event setting from the NVR GUI and not a web browser?

Yea but the smart event options have moved. It’s under VCA menu now not with events. No idea why it chsnged

Hi excellent video. Thanks. Quick question. Using gen 2 8MP colorvue cameras, NVR is a DS 7616NXI-I2/16P/S Latest firmware. When I get notifications. Via the hik connect app. The playback does not continuously play. I have tried my home wifi. Used data from my mobile. No luck. The playback will only play for the first 10-20 seconds then stop. Eventually it will come up with a message saying "video playback failed . Error code 260015.Apart from that everything else works ok. Could you kindly provide some advice, thank you .

I have been thru the web without luck - i have DS-2CD2387G2-LU. when on hik browser setting up my cameras all seems to work well except when i try safe setting "smart" on this DS-2CD2387G2-LU. I can save basic event settings but can't safe smart. i get "device error" popping up ?? any ideas. I also have some some PCI-T18F2S cameras and they work and save ?? any thoughts ?

Hi Andrew you need to control the light settings from the camera itself. So you need to enable virtual host in the NVR the. Go to camera management and use the link to get to the camera interface. In the later firmwares you can trigger the light etc by event too

Why do we need to setup storage schedule. Is that taken care when you setup events or smart events

No it’s not. Camera alerts versus recording preference are separate things. When setting events all you is tell the unit to mark the recording times. You need to specify how your recording. You can now with latest firmware just select continuous recording and events will be marked in red while rest is recorded in blue in the time line

I have a PTZ DS-2DE4A425IW-DE. I havde currently 8 preset positions memorized. I would like the camera every day at 2pm to go to preset 2, record for 1 minute or take a picture and store it. Is that possible? I’ve managed to schedule it to go to position 2 but I can’t make it record/take a picture. Hope it makes sense.

Surely it’s recorded as it’s motion in its movement should be triggering it to record?

@@ChargedServices Thanks for your fast Reply. Well, I just tried to schedule it to preset 2 from 8:50 pm to 8:52 pm. While watching live view, the kamera turns to preset 2, and this time it recorded. Weird. Yesterday I tried the same, but it didn't record. Anyway thanks!

@@Kralj.87 just check on ptz on recording schedule or the motion event you need to enable Motion event during movement I can’t remember the exact phrase used

Hi I’m having problem seeing the image on the camera I’ve logged in but Microsoft seems to be blocking the camera do you know how to unblock this thanks ?

This is usually caused by not having the right plugins installed. You also need to add the IP address as a trusted site in your security settings of Internet explorer. I have been meaning to upload a video of this as its quite common.

Love the video Chris, but couldn't help noticing after you set the area in motion detection it kept saying 'invalid operation'. Is there an obvious reason for that? Cheers

Yea good spot but I run windows on a Mac using boot camp. With that you get a few issues when things try to update the web components plug-in had updated and basically locked up my internet explorer. Had to delete it all and re-install it from scratch. Joys of hacking your Mac!

@@fuzzylogic33 the BattleBook as I call it is the best laptop for the job on sites gets bashed up all day every day and still going strong. Half the issue with the stuff is that most systems you come upto when repairing installing and upgrading all uses old out of date firmwares so first thing you need is a laptop than you run all sorts of dodgy stuff on

Hi Andrew, go to start menu and type internet explorer it will be there. You may have to amend an option in internet options to not default edge on opening

On drawing your motion area, when you tried to save it you got the message "invalid operation". This is what keeps coming up on one of my cameras, do you know the reason why.

Make sure you have the right plug-in installed. Top right of your screen if it still shows “install Plugin” the. You need to take a look at web components download and if you have your security settings blocking everything. You can add your IP address of your device to your safe list and it will likely solve your issues
