It's his post basketball "career" (of course its a job and I'm not meaning to downplay the hard work he puts in.... I just get the feeling he genuinely lives for this regardless of the paycheck, which is awesome) that will truly cement his legacy. He's stayed extremely relevant and present in a positive way for decades.
Barkley was bigger on the court in my opinion. He might be entertaining and hilarious now, but he was entertaining and hilarious and quotable then as well. The difference was that everything had a competitive edge and a bit of nastiness back when he was playing. Barkley was always a big personality, but I still prefer the basketball Barkley to the more lovable post-basketball Barkley.
Bird wanted to posterize a brother or 2 in the last seconds. Lol. Can't hate him for that. He wanted to beat the best defenders when the game was on the line.
If was a 5th.. if shaq was in shape he could have won 10rings, if jordan never left to play baseball he ciyod have won 8 rings easily, if Iverson was taller he would be in the top 5 all time. Ifs mean nothing
Still is the goat I just want to say but your favorite player can be the goat I mean if it's about championships that would have to be Bill Russell or for that matter Robert Horry and it's still about the team
@@davidgaskins2589 Jordan wouldn't win 8 rings in a row. Hakeem was on a mission in 94 and 95. In fact his two retirements after two threepeats only enlarged his mythos.
he took a pounding under the boards. ended up on his back many times. when he was young he would just pop up. all those falls took years off his overall career
I’m not a basketball guy. I used to watch back with Bird, Barkley, Jordan 80s and 90s basketball was more entertaining for me. It’s an opinion… I liked the rougher game. It felt more honest. Barkley is the greatest commentator in sports. I love how much he enjoys hockey now too. The guy is just makes me smile in anticipation of what he’s going to say next.
I think part of Bird's popularity among sports fans centers not simply on his achievements but on his personality...I mean, where are the Magic Johnson stories? The Michael Jordan stories? LeBron? These guys were all intense but Bird had a sense of humor about things.
Jordan has a lot of stories, against Pistons, Knicks, Pacers, against guys like Mutombo, Olajuwon, a lot of their stories are even more famous than Bird's. Magic never had any rivalries or beefs other than Bird, they were natural champions, and Magic only saw the game as fun, he didn't provoke or pick fights like the rest of his generation, except for Jordan when he joined. Lebron, on the other hand, can't ask for many things, the league doesn't have a lot of Trash Talk or very big rivalries, at most some ugly faces
@@kurtdonaldcobain4870 I asked where the stories are...you haven't provided any. And to the extent someone like Jordan talked trash, it was wrapped around his ugly persona...he was a bully who knew he could embarrass guys due to his physical play...that is not the same thing as Bird...
@@julianmarsh1378 Do you want me to get you links for each one? You can literally search that same huge platform called RU-vid, and you'll see lots of interviews, or documentaries, or player articles and stories similar to these, I can't do all the work for you. And literally everyone in the 80s and 90s was bully, many still in the 2000s, do you think Gary Payton, Kevin Garnett, Barkley, Bird, Isiah, Reggie Miller were good guys? Most just wanted to provoke so they could get into their opponent's head and dictate the rules, Jordan did the basics of the 90's
@@tomcrouch7001 Yes he has 1500 career steals but when it comes to MAN TO MAN DEFENSE he was a liability due to a lack of athletic ability. He mainly played defense as a NFL FREE SAFETY
A liability? Never heard that description of Bird before either offensively or defensively. I'd have loved to see Bird and Jones on the same team. Unbeatable.
Maybe that "white guy" is Bobby Jones at the time when Sir Charles was in Philly. Bird's already retired when Charles moved to Phoenix. Unless, that story occurred in 1992 Olympics.
