Frankly, there were a lot of players how the team was lost. A lot of shades of gray. A LOT of villains. Politicians, league management, local and out of state business leaders, the media - The only ones that I cant blame? Are the fans. That goes for both Sonics and Thunder fans.

Seattle had one of the best fan bases ever when they were in their prime with GP and Kemp but the last few years were not good, i think Seattle should get an NBA team too, but i just dont like people that jump to saying "screw OKC" and stuff, they never did anything to Seattle, it was Seattle ownership tht screwed you guys over once attendance started to drop just a little bit

I swear I hated Charles Barkley as a player, ESPECIALLY against The Sonics. But I'll tell you what, Him standing up for the Sonics and the City of Seattle on Multiple occasions made me into a fan. Chuck is my new favorite retired player.

I'm a diehard OKC THUNDER fan and I agree we shouldn't have Seattle's stats. That being said Seattle needs to stop "blaming" us for taking their team. The people of Oklahoma, the fans had nothing to do with y'all losing your team...maybe if you would have shown up for "your team" then you'd still have one. Win or Lose we've supported The THUNDER since they came here and they are OUR TEAM. We are Proud of what they have accomplished in Oklahoma, that's all that matters to us.

@KillerSeahawks I might be mistaken, but I believe Seattle still has the option of creating another franchise under the Supersonics banner. At the very least, Seattle has the option of creating a new franchise, but issues that relate to the initial relocation have prevented that. It seems Seattle had a lot of probs supporting their home team and when they left, it's suddenly everyone elses fault.

Don't hate the OKC players, hate Clay Fatboy Bennett, Howard Schultz, David Stern and the incopetent Seattle city council. One thing Seattle can do in their drive to get this new arena deal done is that you can invite Barkley, Webber and all the former top players who have shown support for the Sonics since their relocation.

I'm from the Philippines and I know Seatle first before OKC...to be honest I just heard OKC when the Supersonics were transfered there...(Still a Supersonics fan!) and I believe!

The reason their attendance was so high is because they were a new team

About the arena,that was also a mess. We built Key Arena in 1996 with Stern facilitating the process. Then in '97 and '98 we had to pay for the Mariners and Seahawks new stadiums. So when Stern came to the legislature just ten yearsafter the Key project, they turned him down, and he stopped trying after that. Still though, if they had given us nearly a decade like with the Kings as opposed to just 2 years something would've gotten done (as it is now with Hansen) but that obviously didn't happen.

charles understands what i've been saying for a long time about Seattle and the NW getting our team stolen: it doesn't just screw over the long time Sonics fans, it robs the whole league of a solid contender with a rich basketball history that included intense and competitive rivalries like the one barkley alludes when talking about his best playoff performance ever. When the refs STOLE the game and the series to send the Suns vs the Bulls buts that's a whole 'nother story . . .

I've grown use to the team being in OKC, and they have a strong and loyal fanbase. As much as I want a team in Seattle again, it might have to be another small market team. They might be moving the Timberwolves up there soon, we'll see.

Im born and raised in San Francisco, so i don't have too much of an opinion on either city, but theres nothing to back up ur opinion that OKC will stop caring about the Thunder when they start losing, because back when the Thunder were losing like crazy their first year, their arena attendance was at 97% and has only climbed higher each year !! Seattle's attendance record was at 70% their last year .. How can you justify a city keeping a team when no one is going to the games.. "thick and thin"

You're taking an isolated stat and forming a bunk argument. It's a complicated issue. There are lots of villains, not one of them being the fans of either city. It just can't be summed up in a paragraph which is why not many people understand nationally. You could watch the sonicsgate movie and learn some of it. But if you want a simplified list of Villains, here goes: Howard Schultz, David Stern, Clay Bennet, Greg Nichols.

It is the same franchise thats what makes it fucking sting, that franchise drafted durant westbrook and harden, were champions in 79, and contenders for much of their history, it wasnt a shit team getting moved, it was a team with actual NBA history that had been in the conference finals 5 years prior

Seattle has one of the most loyal fans in the nation. Every year we support our Seahawks with sold out crowds and the loudest crowds in the entire NFL. Second of all we only lost our team because of our city officials . If i am right with what i remember, the year OKC got OUR sonics, you booed them midseason with a for loosing every game. Our last weeks with our sonics we had games sold out. Never did we boo them

Business wise moving from Seattle to OKC was the dumbest idea, Seattle is three times bigger and 10 times richer than OKC. Seattle is even three times richer than Dubai.

technically you are correct. It is the same franchise. But the stat that was put up said OKC Thunder are 7-2 against the nuggets in the playoffs(which they were not as the OKC Thunder did not exist when that record was amassed). The Stat should have read when this franchise was the Seattle Sonics... That aside doesnt it just feel wrong to try and claim the sports history of another city? Either way give OKC a few years and they wont have to rest on Seattles laurels anymore.

I'm just saying with no ill taste in mind thought that the Thunder shouldn't count Seattle's history as their own after relocating and changing their image completely. OKC deserves a team because they fantastic fans, but not the Supersonics. Seattle should have team, just doesn't right when I listen to Ice Cube's "Today was a Good Day".

The fact is if he really wanted to keep the team in Seattle, he could of easily used his own many. Kraft has done it, Jerry Jones has done it, etc. etc. And Clay Bennett's investment group damn sure had the funds to do it. The fact also is there were leaks involving people involved with his investment group that were mentioning plans of them to move the team to Oklahoma way before they even purchased it. The Phoenix Coyotes (hockey) who have been WORSE than the Sonics yet have stayed.

Never been to OKC but I saw a documentary on NBA TV were Durant said the team was very close cuz there was nothing to do there so they hanged out alot . I would go to Seattle over Oklahoma any day.And I agree they should not use sonics achievements on the thunder team . It's like saying the thunder went to the finals in 96 .

Ok, that's still just speculation based off of something that hasn't happened yet, doesn't really matter tho, the only thing i was saying was that Sonics fan's claim to have stuck with their team "through thick and thin" when they clearly didn't. But i will say that most years, Seattle had great fans; but rumors about arenas being moved and teams being sold does often reduce attendance. But you can't keep a team if no money gets made!

P.S Most groups (if not all) lease their buildings to banks and other companies which generates the majority of the profit to break even. Also raising the price of consumables + ticket prices too obviously. Seattle Fans go to there games, the recession and the tight space of Tacoma Dome hurt but a fresh stadium good stadium would of seen success. Also creates jobs and stimulates the economy, a lot of the construction on such projects are from local/surrounding areas. Fatality?!

I live in Oklahoma city. But I love the city of Seattle. It's not fair to say one way or the other, but the thunder have much better backing here. I'm sorry Seattle lost their team, but that could have even avoided. What's done is done, go thunder, and just be glad they haven't lost the Seahawks.

I dont know about other OKC fans but i hate it when OKC is credited with Seattle numbers as well. i think it is dumb. When the Cleveland Browns left Cleveland and became the Baltimore Ravens they were treated like an expansion team with no franchise history and that the same way the thunder should have been treated. if i had to guess i would say almost no OKC fans have any intrest in claiming Seattles records, accomplishments or stats.
