Charles Barkley Wants SQUASH Beef With Michael Jordan..
Welcome back to Sports Splash. The NBA Hall of Famers were close friends for years, but their relationship soured over a decade ago when Barkley criticized Jordan's management of the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte finished with a 34-48 record in its first full season with Jordan as majority owner. Barkley has defended his stance ever since and hasn't spoken with Jordan in 10 years. However, he said earlier this week that he hopes they can make amends.
Barkley reveals why he hasn't spoken to MJ in 10 years and originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago. Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan used to be best friends and fierce NBA rivals. But now, to hear Barkley tell it in a recent interview with Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks, he and the Chicago Bulls legend have not spoken in 10 years after Jordan took exception to a piece of criticism Barkley levied on television.

Being honest and candid to a person is not always appreciated even if you mean well. Since it was an unsolicited advice, he should have said those things to just between the two of them. MJ felt disrespected because CB practically called him "naive" and "clueless" publicly. It did not help that MJ is known to have a huge ego. You don't do that on a legend and expect to keep his friendship.

Absolutely No, they used to have a good relationship on the court. They got golf in common. Off the court Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley have a shaky relationship. Charles throws jabs about Michael Jordan whenever his name is brought up on prime television. When Charles Barkley calls Michael Jordan "naive" and "clueless" because in 1999, MJ played for the Washington Wizards and owned 10% of the new franchise. In 2006, Michael Jordan made the best business decision of his career and bought 100% of the Charlotte Hornets (Bobcats) franchise.

Michael Jordan is not a good friend to Charles Barkley. I have seen interviews where Michael talks about Charles's golf swing, his defense, his diet and eating habit, his weight, lack of championships, etc. Charles just laughs it off or ignores it. Yet when Barley talks about what Jordan needs to do about his abysmal NBA franchise he gets offended and holds a grudge for over 10 years. Charles even goes on air and says that he regrets losing his friendship. Basically apologizing on air. Charles does not need Michael as a friend. He better off just writing that petty dude off.

Well Charles Barkley wasn't telling a lie at all. Should it have been kept to himself? Possibly, but I think that it was more of a hit to Jordan's ego if anything. Especially with how competitive Mike is. Mike can hold a grudge so it definitely doesn't surprise me that this has gone for this long.

Maybe not, but you can atleast try to put yourself out there and apologize to the person, but yeah. When it comes down to it it's up to that person that's being apologized to to accept or decline it. I personally wish that Mike and Charles could atleast get back on on civil enough terms to be able to be on TV together again and talk about their Basketball days together like they used to, but it is what it is.

The statements were made after Jordan had been owner for 2 years. Isn’t that a little early to be critiquing something as complex as franchise ownership? Jordan became controlling owner in 2010. I suspect Charles was trying to show how objective he could be by criticizing his friend when he would have been better served in acknowledging that it was too early for criticism. Also while owners have the final say, they hire people to make certain personnel decisions and to always micromanage those decisions only undermines them in doing their jobs. Part of the problem that Jordan has is that his profile and celebrity makes everything negative that happens to his team reflect badly on him in the eyes of some moronic fans and members of the media as if he is ultimately responsible for how well his team plays each game. His team seemed to be on the verge of turning the corner this season with a winning record last year but bad luck hit with Bridges’ domestic violence issues and Balls’ injury:

I don't think Jordan never liked him in the first place. I noticed the way he used to look at him, and took playful shots at him. He told Pipen that Barkley was lazy, and will never win a ring. Oh well, sometimes it's best to see and accept what you see in others vs try to turn things into what it isn't. Life goes on friendships really aren't that serious. When you have a good connection with someone that is upstanding and raises the bars in your life in ways that others haven't......and you're sane and sound in mind and judgment. You already know and understand who Life has blessed you to cross paths with. It seems to me that Michael Jordan WANTS to be friendless. I've heard about the Magic Johnson/Michael Jordan rivalry during the 1992 Olympics. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson ended their personal rivalry during the 1991 NBA regular season. Magic also ended a friendship with Isiah Thomas after HIV rumors spread about how Magic got infected. Earvin 'Magic' Johnson (Showtime) stopped the petty gossip with Isiah Thomas (Bad Boys). All three; 'Magic', Bird and Isiah, have ended their childish, personal dislike for each other. There's only one; Michael (Republicans buy tennis shoes, too) Jordan, that wants to stand apart.

At the end of the day, people will always be just people. MJ may have a million reasons why he cut ties with Charles, but you all seem to pick and choose a few of them without regards to the fact that people are just people...we move on, we fall off, we forget, we dream...nobody here knows the real reason why Mike acted in the way that he did, but one thing that is 100% certain is that all of YOU are in total control of the narrative. The internet will ALWAYS be the overwhelming force that overpowers the simple nature of people. Comment sections break people's sense of security. Articles incite anxiety. Podcasts bring about rivalries...despite how big Michael Jordan is to you, he is still small in the eyes of God. He is still somebody's brother. He still has a cousin who loves her husband who loves his mothers who loves the rest of her kids. The death of a friendship is tragic, but the media will always create a new problem based off of old drama. It's just rotten and you're all a part of it. Let time heal our wounds, not RU-vid and Twitter.

First, do we really know if they were best friends? We have heard Charles say it; but never heard MJ say this. Sometimes people are delusional. Just felt like throwing those thoughts, out there. But honestly, we only know one side of the story, Charles's side. The private conversation could have gone a different direction. Now, ten years seem to be a long time. If, they were truly "Best Friends". They don't even say hi' when in the same room. It sounds like there was a deeper problem. I will finish with this: How many relationships have we been in or around, whether it's intimate or platonic same-sex friendships. You knew the person for years. The 2 of you had plenty of disagreements. until one day. One of you decides you had enough. Believe it or not, this happens a lot. You simply outgrow each other, in this case, it seems like MJ has outgrown this friendship.
