Why do I get the feeling that the only people disliking all these videos are the competitors' families who lost? What is there to dislike here? It's sensational Chopin at its finest. Just listen to the music and enjoy it people!

Exactly, I would love to play as good as the any of these fine young musicians. The fact they were excepted to play at this competition is an honor alone. So glad Charles made the top 3. Very proud to be Canadian after watching this.

Extraordinary musician! Whenever one thinks he/she has heard a consummate performance of a work like the ballade - along comes someone like this to open a whole new world. It's more often than not a seasoned artist but hearing It from such a young man makes it all the more thrilling. A tone poem to be reckoned with.

Here's an example of a competition member (performer) NOT worried about sheer speed. Some of the kids are so technically secure with superb (read as young hands) finger work - they BLAZE through the score robbing the performance of Polish lilt and grace. This is relaxing, beautiful, sympathetic keyboarding.
@vettegaddia6234
@vettegaddia6234 9 лет назад
neonRTowner There are some issues in the "Revolutionary etude". But the "Winter Wind" was near perfect. Have you heard all the competitors? The field is so deep with talent that there are more than 5 competitors that could end up the winner.

Vette gaddia - you're joking, right? Except for two obvious notes, that was a note perfect performance and nobody else did any better with that piece. And it was so colorful! Such in interesting idea about the phrasing! You sure didn't hear that in everyone else's performance.

oh my, another good one. I clicked onto this video seeing the recognizable name "Hamelin" which I mistook for Marvin Hamlisch, the well known American composer of the "Sting" and other films. He plays the the etudes better than I had expected. His trills are so steady, an almost impossible feat, and the dynamics are admirably balanced. He has a good feel for the music in the old school vein and he doesn't have a slavic name. (Canadians seem more in tune with Europe than America somewhow.) He must have heard recordings of the old masters a lot, such as Paderewski. On the negative side, his interpretation while generally good classically speaking is not an original take (such as Pogolevich), but he does show soul already and that is what counts more in the maturing process, and which will bring him to his own voice someday. His tone is somewhat stoic and pensive --unusual for a young man---and not lyrical, tempo slow a tad sluggish at times, thereby losing the ingredience for good poetry, and , lastly, he doesn't have the general enthusiasm and fluidity of Aimi Koyabashi though but this young guy garnered the most audience claps and surely he will medal up there. My opinion, not meant to demean nor to favor any pianist. The young players of today are outstanding and they pick up fast.

...this is a 'for sure' pianist (without kicks = no really musician, just the trained phrases and pretences; so called professional) - unoriginal, boring, missing any fire and lunacy... P. S. People who prize him must be unfortunately out of truly emotions and deepest feelings, only the affections...what a narrow-minded lives!
