As evidenced we are all watching 20 years later, Charles IS a legend. Yes...he made mistakes, but let us not forget the talent he displayed and the experiences he gave all us fans.
Charles spoke at my high school about the dangers of drugs. I was so impressed with him and wished I had the chance to receive his autograph. Great Sooner QB!! #6
The Charles Thompson story is a great illustration of redemption. It takes tremendous character to overcome his battles (lived out in the public eye). Sooner born and Sooner bred!
Totally agree, I don’t think there was much of an edge in linear speed though, certainly not as much of as difference as there was in elusiveness, where Jamelle had a huge edge.
I was so happy to find out Charles Thompson was from Lawton,OK. after reading his book for a history essay was shocked to find out what really went down in college football behind closed doors. Wish he could have stayed clean and away from the iceman in Oklahoma. That's who they should have been focus on.
Trill Mac478 when he was going to Lawton High School. He worked at Krogers grocery at Sheridan and Ferris. He sacked my groceries a few times. I found him to be a very polite and nice guy
@@slofever512 well his part wasn’t enough they still lost !!!!!!!!!! ( LOSERS ) who will coach texas after steve sarkisian cause Oklahoma is sure to run him out town before the move to the SEC !!!!!!!!!!
the oklahoma state play i was there in the tiny out corner.............before that HE HAD FELL DOWN DURING TV TIMEOUT and the crowd JUST LAUGHED OUT HIM IN A ROAR.................very NEXT PLAY.................POW!
I'll never understand why the lay public prefers all shotgun all day to the explosive, big play triple option. OK, so it's not the best come-from behind offense, but it IS a great offense for keeping a lead, so we've neutralized THAT argument,
He was a 4.3 guy and a lot faster than Jamelle. He made some mistakes and paid his dues; then went on to win a national title in the NAIA. His son, Kendal, is at OU now and is a great kid and made something like a 27 on his ACT. He will be a great player, too, but isn't quite as fast as his Dad was.
4.3 is a stretch I think, not many dudes that fast at the time. I’d say Charles and Jamelle were very close in speed, probably both 4.45 guys, but Jamelle was a lot more elusive. Not to take away from Charles, he was an amazing player! Happy to see how well he’s come back from his struggles!
Comparing Jamelle to Charles shows just how good Charles was. Charles was pure speed, while Jamelle was pure agility and breaking tackles. Its like comparing Chris Johnson to Barry Sanders. Both great but very different.
A lot of talk about his speed, but in the video he gets run down by John Hagy, an All American safety that would later play for the Bills. 4.65 speed. Maybe it is the angle? But not a good look for Thompson.
Jamelle set the record for total career yardage by an OU wishbone quarterback....but Charles replaced him - wow! Charles was much more exciting to watch, but Jamelle had the fundamentals down so very very well, and was probably a better passer? Ok, Jamelle suffered at least one injury, though.
Jamelle was awesome, but it's funny as I don't ever remember Jamelle running that designed naked bootleg play that Charles did twice in this video, not once. I think Charles had just enough speed to make that great play work, whereas a mortal like Jamelle didn't.
