Morrisons Taste the best is better than Charlie's fish pie. Bigger king prawns and at £7 enough for 2 served with some green's Morrisons 💯 better than Charlie's fish pie
I really like Charlie Bigham stuff. I only get them when they are reduced shelf life and half price though. I've had the meatballs one a bunch of times. Not tried any of the desserts yet though
Good Morning Papparoni , Another excellent review as always on this Charlie Bigham's product ! certainly Bigham on price and such a shame that it did not live up to it ! another one to swerve me thinks ! have a great Saturday Mate :-)
I'm not sure what the "traditional" recipe calls for; but surely this would've been better with sage, not rosemary? Had the Beef Ragu Rigatoni, from the same range, at the weekend. Solid 9/10. It tasted home-made. I am curious to try this, even after the low rating.✌
The problems in general in case CB reads these. The portion sizes are too small along with the protein content. They also discontinued their best products which were the cook on the hob range. Their previous Thai green curry and the chicken tagine were their best.
Way over priced, it's more expensive than the equivalent from M&S and Waitrose 🤷♂️... I've never tried a Charlie Bingham and do wonder who pays over the odds for their products?
£6?! In my local Tesco they had some meals for the same price. The portion sizes seem rather small for the price that they charge. If they reduced them if they were close to sell by date; maybe then I would try but for that it’s not substantive enough to justify the cost
I taste-tested a few of Bingham's meals to compare with a few ready meals I was thinking of producing. I was also going to nick the packaging as it's very eco, no plastic, and suitable for the oven and microwave. I decided not to pursue this new line of products but I did get to eat a few meals that went down as a business expense. Where they nice? Passable. Where ours better? 100%!
Thanks for the heads up Phil, I'll have a go at the jalfrezi, already tried the masala, lovely thing, feel free to see... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3t_oWcChp-A.html
Ah thanks Paps now I know to definitely give this one a wide birth, and going by how present the Rosemary was in this thing I think they should re-name it to Tuscan Pork Ragu with Rosemary Rigatoni 😉
Not a Rosemary's Baby fan then? Never seen that score coming especially when you have went to town with the crispy topping. Aldi do a cracking Specially Selected Gastro Tuscan Style Sausage Pasta Bake - it's absolutely brilliant and only £3.09. Far better than the M&S version but you got to love a bit of fennel. It also looks far superior to this at half the price. Charlie Bigham is pretty much pricing himself out the game nowadays. That wouldn't feed 1 either - it's like a 6 quid starter.
Reminds me of a film from the late 70's, early 80's,'Burnt Offerings '.Probably tasted half decent once you got through the crust.l remember Rosemary's wedding back in the 80's at Southend airport motel, never saw her baby though😮. Good, honest review 👍.
Irrelevant of price, quality and taste, was expecting you to give a minimum 8 out of 10 due to it being Charlie Bigham. Fair play to you for giving it a 3 👍
That is a definite no I really don't care for Rosemary and £6 for 310 grams just by comparison a jar of Heinz baby food contains 200 grams they do a spaghetti bolognaise one as well and the cost £1 ish depending where you get it although probably £2.49 in Coop.
I agree with your conclusions Papparoni, however you did burn it which cannot have helped improve the flavour, I thought you nuked these things usually then finished them off in the Air Fryer. Oregano would be better than Rosemary in that, was there any wine taste at all?
What a pity that this was a let down papps Charlie Bigham's products are normally very good, and I too like the cheese well done. But the price tag is a major put off for me and I have only ever bought them on the sticker action 👍👍🍝🍝🇮🇹
This is just one more reason why I think air-fryers are rather over-rated. I’ve had this manufacturer’s products a few times (not this specific dish), done in my fan oven, and they’ve always turned out as a decent dish. So whether this mediocre result is attributable to the product or the cooking method is debatable.
Far too expensive at £6 for just 300 grams - that's £9 a lb! I've looked at Bigham's products for yonks but never bought one - wonder why? Might try one if I see some on offer! But, since everyone else is looking for these `on offer' it may be some time before I'm successful! I thought rosemary was used to flavour lamb and not pork? I was surprised at your low score too.
CB dishes are hit and miss for me. The tikka masala is ok but no better than the one Aldi do for £3.69 (and the rice is just bland cheapness taking up half the dish). Lasagne is disappointing, carbonara is a disgrace and an insult to Italy, fish pie is actually very nice, pies are nice (but expensive for what they are) and the cottage pie is absolutely rubbish. I don't think their prices are justified on the whole and I don't personally think it's true that they're always using the best ingredients (ham hock and cheddar in a carbonara??!) but people are suckers aren't they.
