Leeds comedian Charlie Chuck advertising Cadburys Double Decker. Script is based on one of his live routines, normally set in a bakery and not a sweet shop.
My old flatmate loved this advert, so about fifteen years ago I got in touch with the firm that made it, and they sent me a copy on CD for his birthday! Cracking ad.
When I worked as a Park and Ride driver I once did this at the front of the queue, the looks on some of the passengers faces was brilliant! Best advert ever.
Before David Meat started doing his Charlie chuck/uncle Peter character, he'd been on tizwas in 1981 in a Bavarian oompah band called something like the Bavarian stompers. He's a drummer. A story says Burt Bacharach encouraged him to be a drummer. After Hooks Holland invited him to appear on SkyTV he got further appearances on a sky talent show, which lead to A Taste of Reeves and Mortimer, an invite by Paul McCartney to play his birthday party (understandable with Paul being a stoner, and an ivor cutler, and McGonagall fan) which got him onto James Whale radio/TV show, band Glastonbury. He still works as Charlie chuck doing small or large gigs here and there, doing EXACTLY the same material with few changes, and still melts the audience into fits.
So glad I've found this I used to ask my mates if they remember it but none of them did I thought I was going mad I could remember it word for word except the up there bit lol 😂
My wife hired Charlie to do a 30 min set in my house for my last birthday party for myself and a few mates - i'll upload it in the next week or so.. Tis very very funny :)
@GiddeonG Thanks for the lowdown.... I went through an age not buying Double Deckers and in recent years when I've bought them I couldn't remember what they tasted like before. I know exactly what you mean about downsizing on bar and upsizing on price. They conned us over the years by saying they were "being health conscious". Yeah right.
Doing it for the money aren't they, not RDA (lol). I hope Charlie covered his expenses, glad to see more of him on TV at the time, but bit of a sell out. King size Mars and Snickers, large Macdonalds milkshake - nowhere to be seen now.
What exactly is "Cadburys Double Decker"? A double deck bus which goes around collecting children and offering them candy? Kind of sounds like Pinocchio.
A friend of a friend of mine had an acquaintance that was possibly a relative who worked at a chocolate factory and was the inspiration for the product in the advertisement as he had actually made a model of a bus out of chocolate on his days off.
@clazza01 I think I'll be doing a "Today's Classic Bar" video for that one on my channel in the near future. You'll be able to lick and sniff the screen lol!!!
They ruined the Double Decker when they changed the proper crunchy dense biscuit in the bottom for that crappy rice crispie effort. It's weak and has bugger all texture to it, that biscuit it used to have went with a right bang, especially if you've just grabbed it from the fridge. I havent bought one since they messed em up. (been given a few though :) ) Prolly only changed em to make em cheaper. BRING BACK THE PROPER BISCUIT! (Nougat was denser too, now its like foam) GGAAAHH!
