I have the same guitar. The blue finish and the neck blow me away. Sounds amazing for everything from Nile Rodgers to Yngwei. Frusciante to SRV. Best neck I have ever felt too. This instrument is just an absolute joy to play.

How do you clean the body since it is a matte finish. I’m use to using a polish on urethane finishes

Given the bridge is Gotoh, it is very likely the locking tuners are as well...just branded as Charvel.

Nice review, very useful, thanks. I'm tempted to buy one but a little nervous the neck may be too slim. (I live in Cornwall and a trek to a dealer would be just that, a long trek...) I owned a PRS SE Tremonti a while back and sold it in the end because the neck was just too slim - it was disconcerting to have so much empty space in my left hand behind the neck! What's the neck thickness at the first and twelfth frets?

The hotrails handles gain reeeaally well! Surprised me! I'm convinced to either buy one, or at the very least, get a hotrails for the bridge of my SSS Strat.

@@OliRoyer I just last week bought an RG instead. It was down to that and the Orange Crush HSH Charvel. And then suddenly the RG went on special and that was it. I bought it immediately. I always get post-purchase regret tho. Whichever guitars I'm deciding between...the one I end up buying, I immediately start wishing I'd got the other one! It's a case of "the grass is greener". It's like, moments before purchase..both, or more were a possibility. But as soon as I pull the trigger on one, it's like the other one dies! Kinda stupid, maybe it's just me... I just know.. that Charvel woulda been good for Rockin' aswell as shredding...whereas the RG is really just about shredding. EDIT: I ended up returning the RG. It really showed me what type of guitarist I am ...by showing me what type of guitarist I am not! I went totally off shred guitars, and onto Rockers. My LP is my number and it's a Rocker first and foremost...and then a shredder. Well...you can shred on it , anyway. So I bought an SG Special in Pelham Blue. It answers all the reasons I was buying again after the LP, without losing the things I loved about the Gibson's.. ...It has high neck access and a good heel ; but still has Rockebrs' stoptail. It is thin & light enough to rock on stage for hours ; but it still has that Gibson snarl. It looks so photogenic in its' case...and it smells so sexy with all its' nitro!

Here I am 7 months later...still love my SG...But I'm ready to buy again and it's back to this DK24! Shoulda just got it to start with! Now, I can't get the orange....can't get the grey..or the green....I GoT's to have the pink! The pink or nuttin'! Or, I go a good was hotrails like yours here. What do you reckon between those two : DK24 hss, or the DK22 SSS (Hotrails) ??

Well thx for the feedback Oli & Co. - NOT! *- but I went and grabbed the DK24 HSS (Shell Pink), whom I have tentatively named, "Jessie", short for "Jessie Pinkman", an apt name indeed! However, I'm here to talk about it's performance, not it's name meaning. So how does it play? It slays! It just shreds all by itself for like, an hour straight whenever I pick her up! It's kinda like I'm out of body just watching a shredfest! *I'm only rousing y'all for not responding to my last question - y'all chipped in earlier, and Thx for that! 😎🤙

Hi Oli, great demo. I played this guitar and am really interested in purchasing. The only flaw I've seen from online reviews is that people mention tuning stability can be a serious problem on these Charvel DKs. Did you notice that at all when you played it? Thanks

Get one with only one string tree. Lube every contact point. It should be okay then relatively speaking. Can install a Tremel-no to switch between hardtail and trem also.

@@OliRoyer Thanks for your reply this really helped me a lot. I think I'd go for the charvel as I'm really looking for a faster more fendery type neck that is around C profile. Tried the Az and they are fantastic instruments too it's just that I find the neck a little bit chunky. Though it feels comfortable to play anyway you just got to get used to it at first I guess if you're more into fender necks. :)

This guitar is unbelievably gorgeous. How do you think it would do for filling the role of "basic strat"? I've been searching for a more unique way to get that classic SSS quack for more straight ahead rock/pop rock stuff.

It has modern spec but this is a hss strat, you'll get all of the same tones of a regular strat from this guitar.

If you wanted to have this guitar re-wired so the 5 way pickup switch resembles that of a typical stratocaster (single bridge pickup/middle and bridge pickup/single middle pickup/middle and neck pickup/single neck pickup) would a guitar tech be able to do so?

I think the bridge pick up is not a singgle coil but it's mini hum so it should got a new name hss.hahaha(but i think it's should use hum at bridge pick up because for me singgle coil pu at bridge it's have treble too much.)

I find so hillarious that every vid on this guitar everyone is so extra gentle with the whammy bar hardly using it at all incase is goes out of tune hahahaha just a little tickle haha

Dante Black man, you have to consider how narrow it is, the eq, the compression, etc... if you look only at the output value then Emg SVs are monsters so what?

@@dante8227 pickup construction has to be taken in consideration. For instance 8k on a single coil and 8k on a standard humbucker aren't the same

I love this pickup. I had this exact same configuration on a modded strat I have to sell a while back. Hot rails are sugar, spice and everything nice.
