#videogames #reseller #chaseaftertherightprice Today, I discuss some recent concerns I've had with Chase after the right price and his effect on the gaming hobby.
And it hurts the ecosystem, it’s getting to the point where only people with a lot of spare money can buy games while the people that are more frugal refuse to pay this premium created by resellers and the idiots that are ok with high prices
@@Fallen_BladeTrue. I refuse to pay more than €50 for a GameCube game. Only time I paid that limit was for a Pokémon colosseum. Which I got lucky with.
It’s comical to me how these guys genuinely believe they’re entitled to 30 percent off everything 🤣 and then they act like they’re doing the vendors favours lol, let’s be honest all these vendors clearly cringe and sigh when they see people like him and phoenix resale walk into the place, you can clearly see they don’t really wanna sell it to them for that much of a discount but they end to just giving in because they purposely put them on the spot with the camera in their face
Buying all those childhood games and says he's giving them away, only to find out you have to purchase something in order to be entered for the giveaway
Or negotiate back better. I mean sometimes I see a vendor who barely comes down and that's usually the one they make a big deal out of in their videos. Which in return discourages future vendors from doing that. :/
Bro why would they turn these people away when they’re spending the most money with them. Hate the guy as much as you want but it makes 0 sense for a vendor to turn away someone who could potentially spend thousands
@@angrybirdbob2881 that’s a good point but the margin is a lot smaller with these big purchases so might be more money but probably less profit in their pocket overall
It's basically them buying stuff then instantly selling it to their friend for instant profit....really totally BS and unrealistic, then they sell what he don't want to buy on their overpopulated whatnot. They haven't sold anything realistically on eBay in the videos so far like a normal person would and even then they are selling it on their already known eBay instead of making a complete brand new one.... "*f* you I got the connections you don't" basically
The vendors think they are getting free advertising by selling to the influencers for cheaper but we know they ain't benfiting from this.. Keep up the amaxing channel, my friend..
Plus how many viewers would buy from a vendor? Even when I see them get a shout out, I'm never going to look up their specific name to maybe find an online store. If I want something specific, I usually go to eBay or a larger reputable online retailer like eStarland.
These conventions are probably going to eventually die off if they don't put a stop to practices like this. When people can go in and get games for less than the sticker price before the doors even open, they will eventually stop attending because they aren't getting the games they want. After too many conventions are a bust for game collectors, they will then turn to other sources to get the games they desire for their collections.
I 100% hit that Subscribe button. F*cking Epic! I'm dying over here 🤣. I used to watch him and Phoenix resale awhile back because I thought they cared about the games. Turns out they just care about profits. You're spot on!
Great video, Steve. These frauds ruin the fun of gaming and collecting. I miss the days of collecting before RU-vidrs screwed it over for the genuine gamers.
convention vendors prob dont mind it because if you think about it they sell it quick and give it to some reseller thats gonna jack up the price and jacking up market too. then vendors can sell for more later down the line, also they get publicity and more are gonna come and pay an even higher price at future conventions
How exactly is he taking money from vendors if they agree to sell to him? The people who say no to chase aren't making the video. Anyone who's bought a booth at a convention, and priced all their items, knows exactly what they have. If to them it's more valuable/worth their time to sell large portions of it to another very obvious reseller then who cares? Doing volume > sitting on tons of product just happened to be worth it to them. Making one big sale vs 100 small sales is going to be worth a 30% cut to most people. Clearly this vendor isn't taking the time to sit on stuff and list it all on Amazon. I get why you'd dislike a guy who's driving up the price of your hobby - so focus on that. You're complaining that chase is making profit, but upset that the other reseller at the event isn't making profit? what?
Best of luck man. When you go, you should try to negotiate like Chase without a camera then come back and tell me how that shit doesn't actually work lol.
A reminder that Chase canceled an eBay auction on a buyer for Akalabeth after it was done and paid for so he could relist it after hawking it to his youtube audience.
It’s pretty amazing how these dudes can make a shit ton of money off of just filming something boring like a yard sale. I think anyone would want to do that over a real job. Which is exactly why we have a reseller culture now on RU-vid. People want to make the most amount of money with the least amount of effort and they don’t care who it harms to obtain that goal
I went to Midwest gaming convention this year with hopes of finding a sega cd. Cheapest one I found was 360$ only to find out gaming on the grid went there and bought one for 180$. Juat found your channel and def subbing
Never trusted Amazon for used games, but I do use eBay for my retro game shopping. I want it 100% complete and like new condition. That's hard to come by in the wild. Really don't see any other options. Flea markets and yardsales are a gamble, and from my experience: a waste of time and money. And besides Facebook marketplace, I don't use social media. 🤷♂️
Yeah I find myself having to decline games from my small amount of trusted resellers I use because there’s just a lot of poop quality games floating around now.
Guys like chase are the reason why i learned how to mod systems. All my retro consoles are those classic minis and actual hardware that play off of the HDD.
Vendors dying to offload their stuff in conventions is my experience. They don’t want to wait and sit on their stuff until one random person comes to buy their high priced games. Most regular joes spend maybe 150 bucks on such a convention and the competition is crazy out there. These resellers are great opportunities for them to get some quick bunch of their investments back. There’s always good deals to be found even after resellers have been busy or you just pay sticker price if you really care about them that much. Also Chase has a business to run himself. He has employees who need to be paid. Do you think he can survive his business without deals and good inventory?
Fun fact. I heard that CATRP made an offer to buy the entire booth operated by my local video game resale shop at MGC, and they told CATRP that they own their own shop and declined their offer. And my local independant video game store (which has been in operation for over thirty years) has had consistently reasonable pricing, surely better than all of these bulk Amazon resellers.
Bro almost every vendor haggles. Obviously Chase is different with a large wallet and RU-vid crowd, but anyone can haggle down sticker prices. Haggling is a way of life. Don’t know the last time I paid sticker price at a convention, yet everyone’s still happy
I used to be a big time viewer of resellers, glad I found ur videos Its changed my views a lot on resellers/scalpers. They are a plague to the gaming community
ive been a vendor at one of the conventions in my hometown for the last 5 years. i havent seen youtuber resellers like chase yet, but im sure they will soon. its not just the youtubers that snipe stuff early at conventions. Every year there are retro stores and other resellers that try to snipe stuff while your setting up your table, its gotten to the point where i wont open my booth till the vips can come in. i wont sell to other retro stores or resellers till the doors open. The thing is these retro stores do the same thing chase and others are doing they set up the earliest they can so they walk around and snipe 2-3 hours before the show starts. ive given out discounts without knowing some were other retro vendors or stores and later i would walk around the convention and these same people i gave discounts to refuse to budge on price at all
Oh yeah, that’s an issue too. And I don’t think most people even consider that there are non-RU-vidr resellers doing the same thing. It’s gotta be some wild statistic now. 1 out of every 10 gamers is a reseller. lol maybe even worse than that.
@@steviefreakinc your right its a subject no one talks about. im a long time collector and i do resell. i just want to be transparent. i dont sell alot, but at this last convention the vips were allowed in at 10am. my wife and i showed up at around 9:30am and i kept the lids on my tubs. i still had people looking in my tubs from the outside, its crazy since most are retro stores in the area. i give 30% discount on every thing more than 15 bucks so people dont have to haggle with me. and buy 2 get 1 on cheap games. i personally want to be cheap for younger and new collectors looking to expand their collection.
Long story. When I was first learning how to golf I bought a bunch of chit off Facebook marketplace locally, I'd keep what I like and Sell what I didn't. Now golf is an industry like technology new shit is being pumped out every year but certain brands hold their value fairly well after a couple years. I generally only bought stuff that was good to great condition and that went for the stuff I resell. Man some people would be relentless calling me saying I can get it for this much online, I would tell them well by all means get it online. Buying from me you get to hold it in your hands and see the quality. Long Story short I quit selling because I was tired of dealing with people in the same situation as what these resellers are doing but from a sellers perspective. And I must say I never price gouged or anything like that I always kept my prices reasonable. I was very lucrative for me for a side hustle. But now you got these online resellers in every Hobby Genre doing this shit.
I was checking out one of his Whatnot shows awhile ago. There was a SNES game called Cliffhanger. His caretaker was talking about Sylvester Stallone being on the cover. Chase was like I never heard or seen him before. The caretaker was explaining a bunch of movies he was in. I was thinking like he’s been doing this since you been 8 years old and never saw him before or heard of him. Like he’s just being a snob or something to pretend you never heard of him. All the video games he was in? Rambo or Rocky games? He was even in Immortal Kombat 11 you can download Rambo and 2 other characters on some pack. He even wrestled Hulk Hogan in Rocky III.
I’ve never been to a convention before. This is one of the reasons why I avoid going because as a collector & one who plays their shit, how the hell can I get a deal when most of the deals are taken? 😞 Thanks videos Steve. 👍🏻
That’s what I’ve heard. I’m curious about how much they’ll charge for the heavy hitters for PS1 (I’m going for the full set). My butthole hurts just thinking of the prices. 😅
I'm really glad I did not attend the Midwest gaming classic this year. This is really sad to see how cheap he gets stuff by intimidation whether he even means to do that or not. The majority of these vendors every time I have went if price their stuff far more than standard retail and when I ask for discounts or for breaks just for myself many of them will not budge whatsoever so it's really unfair to see him go and get 30% under retail on everything when sometimes the stuff is 50 to 100% over for individuals. I'm really glad I don't collect the silver price stuff. I will only buy it when I find it dirt cheap as I tend to collect 16-bit stuff and earlier and specialize in 8-bit. There is a silver lining to all of this. I know a lot of people and have a massive collection myself, I can't give all the details away but I will let everybody know that majority of the very high end rarer highly sought after stuff is privately sold 10 to 1 over eBay and conventions. All of the kind of stuff he buys is very overhyped pied Piper kind of stuff. Very tenured collectors know all of this so all of the rare better stuff is privately sold at much better rates and deals keeping it out of these resellers hands.
I was selling games at a car boot (A gathering of people in cars and vans in a place to sell their stuff) I had a ton of games that were ps2, xbox 360 etc. I was selling a majority of them for 50 pence each. One reseller came along and passively aggressively wanted me to sell them all, i said £60 due to some discs missing or damaged. I wanted to say no and give other people a chance to buy my stuff, but he was very desperate so i decided to sell the lot. Resellers don’t give chances for anyone other than themselves.
You were mad someone wanted to buy what you were selling? Sounds like a terrible experience. Im sorry you had to go though so much horror. You truly are a hero. ❄️❄️❄️
@@user-rl1dp1hz8z I wanted to give other people who had little money to buy something for a good price and could enjoy , instead of just one scumbag reseller buying the lot. You clearly misunderstood what i’m saying which is a reflection of what little brain tissue you have.
I admire you for wanting to share the games with multiple sellers as opposed to helping a reseller. The other guy that commented here clearly doesn't understand what the problem we have with resellers is. We love our fellow gamers.
I took my Son Timmy to the convention and Chase, Rescam-Phoenix resale and other bought all the games before poor Timmy could get the Mario games. Later
For both new and used, I truly try to shop only local brick and mortar myself. While recommending to others to shop local mom and pop stores to help support local small businesses. Use them wallets folks. 👍😎 #TrueGamingForever
He's not selling this stuff on Amazon anymore. It's almost all Whatnot. He gets like 100-150% of comps there and I have not doubt that he's paying very low (maybe 0%) in fees. I do not know why people pay so much but they do.
People pay up because it’s Chase or because they don’t wanna lose a bidding war. Some people have way too much money to spend and not enough common sense. And the poor gamer is the one that suffers the wrath
@@steviefreakinc To be clear I don't mind Chase - I used to really enjoy his early videos. My issue now is that he's become completely unrelatable. His business model is selling on Whatnot (where he has negotiated probably sub 5% fees) to his subscribers who are willing to pay at or over comps for any Pokemon or Mario game. I saw a GameCube system (one I have in my collection) sell for over $1200 on one of his whatnot auctions and there was one sitting on eBay for $900 at the exact same time. And I think it was in better shape than the one Chase sold. And he has people fighting to sell him their collections at 45% of Pricecharting. He's not even a relatable reseller anymore. I don't begrudge him for using these advantages, but it's not as much fun to watch because it's just not normal. They pretend to teach people reselling on the channels, but they really haven't been normal resellers in these last few years. What they are doing is just not replicable for 99.99% of people and they are totally out of touch with reselling reality.
So you don't like when he buys games from yard sales for cheap or when he buys games from video games vendors. When is it okay for him to buy games? They might be doing deals for him because he spends hundreds at a time?
He doesn't need to use a convention as a source. That's the ultimate point that I wanted to make with the video. That is a place for fans to buy games for their collections.
Im going to SoCalGamingExpo next month which is thrown by pixel squad and there could be a huge chance that all these scumbag youtubers will wipe the floor clean with huge bulk buys before the con even opens to the public leaving us with nothing. So excited for that...
I would love to set up a booth at a convention and when these gays come to low ball you, I would raise the price. Let's get together and go to some convention they all are at so we can make them look bad!
Most vendors at a convention come ready to negotiate. You don't have to be a reseller or a RU-vidr, you just have to have the balls to ask. Most will cut you a bit of a break, especially if you're buying multiple items. Moving product is more important than squeezing every last dollar out of an item, and if someone comes prepared to drop thousands of dollars, it stands to reason they'll get a better break. As far as resellers go, I can understand some of the hate. But at the same time, they didn't create the game, they're just playing it. Amazon sets the prices for their games, not the resellers. And with other outlets like eBay and Whatnot, the market sets the price. So all this outrage just feels misplaced. But maybe I'm missing something.
This is why I stopped going to conventions in my area bunch of resellers just selling to each other no reason to pay parking fee, entrance fee etc just to find gta vice city or madden cause that’s all there is left
$160 for those 4 controllers that had a tag of 180.. twenty dollar discount from a vendor who he's done business with countless times and he always buys in bulk from. Are you in connection with multiple vendors? Do you do deals with them often and if so that's two parties making $ over and over. Whether or not you have connections with vendors - why don't you ask for a couple dollars off asking price? I dare you to post anything on marketplace, every single person who responds is going to be asking for 10 bucks off, it's added into the asking price, and if you're not asking for it you're paying up anyways ..
You need to be smart when you enter any auction, and completely leave emotion and fomo out of the mix, which can be hard to do. Before I bid I already know my max bid based on the comps from price charting and other websites, and how much I'm willing to pay...and I stick with that. Does that mean I lose a lot of auctions...yes, but I don't overspend.
There's always another sale and I think a lot of people don't believe that. But having a limit is a good thing. I personally don't participate in auctions much. I'm not interested in winning an item, I'm interested in buying an item.
Amazon is trash not good with layout with no pics that show actual condition of items they like not being helpful with account o your account was hacked like the site is horrible
It’s like this meme I saw a long time ago. It said “What if we all become doctors like our parents wanted” and then it’s just this huge crowd of people asking their neighbor “are you sick?”
Reseller's ruin everything 😢 - Video Game Conventions are not worth going to anymore, Literally everyone there are garanteed to be a reseller. ( i think ) - Real Gamer's out there hunting games don't stand a chance at these conventions.
I never understood the whatnot app. It's just eBay with the live events when its like 15 sec to bid up what your looking for instead of a week like regular listings. Resellers ruin collectors like me. Glad i dont feed into thier bs buying one game for $100.
@@steviefreakinc I sometimes get these ads when I watch your videos or randoms. RU-vidrs spend $100 supposed money to buy but, it's all Bs and how many things you've actually spent $100 on.
@@steviefreakinc Yeah, I’ll make sure to take care of it. I just don’t want to get shafted by a reseller. They’d probably try and sell the poo to someone for $86.
Cant argue with any of what you've said here mate. Its clear this dummy Chase is just chasing the coin with little or no regard with how his actions are so damaging to the retro gaming scene. Good work for putting this video together, Steve!
Yep game conventions need to ban these guys from the 1st day and then they can go on the 2nd day of the conventions to give the first day to regular folks buy what they want To be honest from those guys I'll take out Retro Rick most of the time his buying for his personal collection and even if he buys for his store still going to a local store not like the other guys reselling online
Good to see this video, ive watched a couple CATRP videos. They have a really weird vibe, they are all overly happy all the time i actually find it a bit unsettling. It feels like the start of a cult.
Love your videos Steve But I got to admit I watch chase after the right price videos just like Phoenix resale but I don’t buy there stuff on eBay or what knot, Amazon the shit is way too High!!
As someone who has watch CATRP since he was a small channel by himself hunting at garage sales to now you can just tell the difference. He used to be someone you could relate to more or less and just watch a video of his and enjoy. But, ever since his business exploded he just seems to be less and less genuine. I don’t necessarily hate him (just my opinion) but it is getting tiring of him and other resellers getting discounts that “regular people” wouldn’t be getting. Also, the bs from selling on Whatnot is ridiculous, I will never understand why people are willing to spend more money for something on that app. Good video overall 👍🏻
Well said. Chase used to come across as a nice guy. Garage sale hunting with Gran was a wholesome video. But now it's just like: "let's stick a camera in this guy's face, lowball him, and clear out the gems from his inventory so we can make Jeff Bezos a little bit more rich while padding our own pockets."
I believe that’s the way it goes for everyone when you excel past a certain point in business. You start dehumanizing your clientele and only see them as income sources
"Your not that guy. Your not that guy." Yo Steve, where's 1 video every day, dude? You make me laugh. Let's bust a nut and pump more videos out on the daily. Nah but seriously, you and Dumpy seem to be the only channels that are worth watching anymore. Keep up the content bruh 👍
One retro video game store I go to 1up games meet phoenix resale and wanted a 3ds system and he try to lower them alot but 1up games said no. It is gaming expo every year in phoenix Arizona. Anyway chase used Nintendo games to get Nintendo fans to buy from him for to much money for a game
I think if you want to support a really good 10 dollar game collection then you should watch Austin heroics series. It’s much more realistic and he doesn’t cheat like these fuckers. Makes for a much more enjoyable watch ❤
Some people will pay a fortune for a game but, you never know why. You gotta think bro that some people might have a very special core memory with that game. For me Digimon World is it, I have my childhood copy & another. My uncle gave it to me before he passed away. He walked to my moms in the freezing cold to make sure I could have it. Im not hating I like you dude I just acknowledge that some memories are more important to people than paper.
I understand the gripes, but at the end of the day, each one of those vendors makes the choice to sell, and the collectors the choice to buy. As the saying goes, you vote with your wallet. He also offers more money to those that don't know what their games are worth instead of taking it for base price as well. So it isn't like he is out ripping people off. Just my opinion as a fellow collector.
Steve mentioned this at 2:35 that it could be intimidating with a camera on them. I know there was a video recently where Chase got a deal on some GameCube stuff that the guy clearly didn't want to do. He felt uncomfortable but did it anyway. Why? That's anyone's guess. However, while it is his choice to sell, but at what point is it crossing the line into manipulation and coercion? It's a long way from asking for a better deal at a garage sale. This is methodical, cold-hearted, systematic inventory acquisition AKA greed. GameCube stuff sells like hotcakes. It makes no sense why anyone would sell for less early on! The outlier is the camera and the clout and from my POV it seems like Chase is taking advantage of smaller vendors.
These resellers are wild af, they think the world revolves around them. Doesn't help less known and wanna be resellers suck up to them to get that bit of fame of publicity, absolutely disgusting. Funny af vid made me roflmao kek
Yeah dude, there are so many reseller channels popping up. I've been watching these types of videos for a while and now it's nearly double the channels out here.
Let me blow your mind for a second. I live near Caleb....he is a local business for me. What do I do!? *head explodes*. I love your videos cause they make me laugh, but your arguments could be applied to any person who resells anything ever.
Live and let live. Of course they're gonna cut him a deal, if he spends a lot of money in one go. Even if you don't agree with his business you're still riding his coattail...
Meh, my most recent video did better than this one and it was on a reseller with less than 2k subs. So I think it's subjective to say I'm riding off of his success.
When are people esp. the gaming community these resellers that buy up everything will not stop unless WE the people stop buying there high priced games wherever that may be!🤷♂️ its common sense!...if common sense was so common every one would have it😂
I really don't get why they give these greedy RU-vid resellers such good deals when it would make more sense to give the best deals to someone that actually really wants the items.
Ya know, I can understand a vendor wanting to offer a bulk deal. But on the first day of the convention, they're selling all of their eye candy for their table to one dude. It's really hurting them in the long run.
