I know this may sound like im trolling but you really should use a net. Not only does it help you land the fish but the longer you fight the fish the less its chances for survival afterwards otherwise great video 👍
Can someone point me to the laws specifically regarding salmon? I have tried to research it so I do not get cited, but I have been using spinners to fish for steelhead near sac state.
Barbless hooks only, lures and bait is acceptable, however due to low returns salmon fishing is closed in California this year and most salmon at this time are dark and beat up anyway(unless your lucky to catch a late fall fish)but normally the limit is 2 fish. Flying c spinners work good in deep slots with moderate to slow current but the American is a tough river for salmon.1 or 2 salmon on the American is a good day
Cool video and nice fishing! I just caught my first steelhead on the Trinity last weekend. The fight was phenomenal. I certainly can see how people get addicted to fishing for them. I'll have to give the AR a try. I mean, it's only 15 min from the house hahaha. Tight lines!
So, you're fishing for steelhead and you catch a salmon by accident but you release it, they can still write you a citation? That makes no sense whatsoever.
Thanks for the video. I've learned so much and don't have to drive too far to try our your fishing methods. Just look for an area with a run and flat and give it a go and there are plenty of them on this part of the American.
The game wardens do not go around giving tickets if you’re following the regs. Read the regs and you have no issues. They are there to keep the regs enforced pretty simple if you ask me. Also those are young Coleman hatchery steelhead or trout.
Nice! I think you're the first person this year I've seen hooked a salmon in the river. I've yet to see them roll or start spawning. Thanks for the info. I didn't know the wardens were he'll bent on writing tickets.
I've seen tons of salmon on the American - Paradise Beach, you can see them in the water from the bridge at Sac State, Gristmill, Harrington, River Bend. I've been fishing all along there and see them pretty much every time I've been out for the past month or so.
