Those look like those half pounder steelhead from the coleman hatchery but they have the adipose fin.Caught quite a few of those both hatchery and wild around the fair oaks and Carmichael area using nightcrawlers. Some are actually a few pounds but are still called half pounders. Then there's those big eel river steelhead ive seen many of them but never caught one. Also i know that unclipped steelhead are all supposedly wild according to what an employee at the nimbus hatchery told me but some of those fish have kinda beat up fins for being wild
Wow as mainly a fly fisherman I love everything about this video. From the fish care to the fighting!!! Amazing job! That steely is insane! One day I hope to find success at the american river like you!!!
Great day on the Lower Am. Grew up there and fished it from Sailor down to below Sac State between '62 and '90 when I moved away. Still a great urban fishery. Much variety from panfish and bass in the dredger holes, to Salmon, Steelhead, Rainbows, Shad and Stripers in season. A real treasure for people living in the vicinity. Still miss it. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for sharing this video. I am able to pinpoint the spot from last scene. I am not local in Sacramento area. Hope I'd have chance to fish there this summer.
Great video and good job on catching all of the steelhead/trout. I'm impressed and learned something new. I'm going to hit up that area at sunrise or sunset and try my luck too! How do you prepare or get your roe?
I've been holding on to whatever roe I get from previous Salmon fishing season. I like to do a basic cure of Borax, Salt, and Sugar. Nothing real special. Roe is hard to come by nowadays. Good luck!
@@Petergoneflyfishing based on the color and growth of the plants around and behind him, prob some time in end May, early June. If you look at the brambles across the way, right in front of the hatchery, you'll see they're dying off from the heat we've had here in Sacramento this year. I've fallen on those in the winter and they hurt like the mother - break off in your skin get embedded.
@@CaliforniaFishing great observation. i know some half pounders and summer steelhead are being caught right now but that was a great outing in the video.
The American (Sac river watershed) does not have true summer steelhead. Some steelhead may be in the system in summer months, but they are not true summers.
