Fighting Astarion, knocking him unconscious non lethally, killing him while he's out, then finally bringing him back to life is the most insane rollercoaster of events that could only emerge thanks to chat.
@@hadesciphernius5244 😂 imagine being the Voice Actor and one of the first lines you have to say are explained with _"The Player just killed your character for fun and then revived you."_ What does that tell the Voice Actor what the people think of him 😂
Just imagine: You are having an epic battle against a Mind Flayer. Then some level 1 goon appears out of nowhere, makes you drop your weapon, and runs off and crashes the ship.
funny thing is, the brief moment that we got to see both their HPs, i genuinely think that if we let that fight cook instead of immediately connecting the responder, i think the Commander could have genuinely still beat the Mindflayer with his fists alone
17:08 See, _this_ is the reason Astarion was 100% correct in not trusting any random weirdos he meets on that crashsite beach and threatening our character with a knife for answers until you talk his panicking vampire spawn ass down!! People randomly knocking him out without so much as asking his name first, then murdering him like the murderhobos they are!
My question is if they always had that or if they added it after the beta? I would imagine the Early Access playthroughs gave them a lot of scenarios they never dreamed would happen. I remember watching an interview with the head of Larian where they talked about how many options were involved with getting the player the dodecahedron thing that Shadowheart has. Just that one piece of kit gave them several days of work. Designing the scenarios, animating them, voicing the lines, realizing they missed a situation, going back and animating and voicing that scenario. I can't even imagine how much work goes into designing sandbox games and immersive sims. Though I fully believe they are some of the most satisfying game types to play for the very reason that sparked OPs comment. It's just great when you stumble onto something that you never imagined they anticipated but it has a specific voice line dealing with it.
Man chat's treatment of Astarion giving me flashbacks to when a freaking wizard enemy used a Revive scroll on my character immediately after killing me (they were hasted) just to revive me into a fire so that I would die again. I don't know what they're feeding the Tactician AI, but it was traumatizing. Whatever Astarian has done in the past ain't worthy of that!
Imagine the Cambion's confusion. Fighting a great battle against Mindflayers when suddonly some weak humanoids stroll in, use a weak command on him (and succeed) to drop his blade, and then dash out of there.
The way the game is, Astarion can go around in 'Camp clothing' even while wearing armour, so you could get away with having protection of armour/gear while appeasing chat.
You can make every character's armour and helmet (including your own) invisible and run around just in trousers and undershirt, with the optiin 1. all the time, 2. only during cut scenes in camp, or 3. always while in camp. Of course, if you unequip their normal clothing and underwear while keeping the armour and helmet invisible, well... then they're only wearing boots. You can also steal Laez'el's BDSM underwear (if you recruited her) and put it on Astarion and have him strut around in it. Heck, you can even put it on Halsin the druid once you recruit him.
I've been having an easy enough time on my Dex monk, there's an incredible staff you can buy from Emerald Grove that gives you +2 to all saves (!!) as long as you don't wear armor and it also buffs your unarmed attacks.
@@remixtheidiot5771At least Larian knows how to make fun gameplay unlike Wizards Theres way more Martials based Magic Item in BG3 than it was in 5E who is Caster focused Berserker getting buffed to not only get 0 stupidly unfair penalty but also a Bonus Action throwing attack of litteraly anything and anyone that knocks people prone is amazing Imagine if you cast Enlarge/Reduce on the Berserker in actual 5E, they would kill a lot of people Especially if your DM is the nice guy that allows Oversized weapon rule because Melee Martials NEED to be buffed
"Loot everything in sight" is absolutely viable with the greatest item in the game: the infinite capacity Camp Chest and the OP option "Send to Camp." I regularly buy very rare gear on rotten food and ink wells
Rotten food even? Damn. The rotten food is about all I haven't been looting, that and the super heavy stuff that only sells for 1g, like tongs, rope, and hammers.
yeah! that and robbing blind the traders you know you're going to kill. stopped mid the goblin camp encounter just to steal all the cool shit from the trader and then resell it. pickpocketing is definitely my #1 reason for savescums
Astarion is such a HUGE favorite for me which is bananas because I don't like playing evil (which I know you dont HAVE to for him but yknow), I'm very goody goody haha, but he gets me acting mischievous. And this is still absolutely hysterical. I'm terribly excited to see how the Astarion roller coaster continues LOL
Astarion seems to be such a love/hate character for everyone. His initial demeanor is pretty hard to get over, what with nearly killing you then sucking your blood without your consent. When he did that to my evil Duergar character I just ended him with a stake right there. In my defense I had no idea it would instantly kill him because it was a dialogue option.
@@CrizzyEyeswhen does he suck your blood without consent? After the first reveal when he almost bites you, he never tries to do it again without your consent. Also, idk what you mean by his “initial demeanor”
@@kstar1489 he initially comes off as selfish and smarmy in a way that can be offputting. and while he may have gotten caught before he could properly drink your blood, 1. some players wake up with teeth marks on their neck anyway, implying he managed to nick them, and 2. the fact remains that he still _intended_ to bite you without permission; you just woke up before he could get away with it. i may be fond of this flamboyant little fop but i understand why some players or their characters would find him unpleasant lmfao
Karmic dice is incredibly counterintuitive, just like it prevents you from having consecutive fails, you cannot have consecutive high rolls, which doesn’t make sense if you have proficiency in the check
I hope he does so, living in europe doesn't make it super easy to watch streams from the US. ...that and the more funny bits are all condenced in a nicely packed video.
Karmic Dice goes both ways. It'll force you to low roll as well if you are on a winning streak. As in, it will force you to fail. I've found that after 2 or 3 wins, you can expect your next roll to be a Nat 1. It consistently does it too. I did a karmic run and a natural run and it was like playing a different game. In my Karmic run, I found myself rolling on things that didn't matter in order to lose so that I would be guaranteed a win on things that did.
I spent 10 hours redoing the fight over and over again to get lucky enough to kill him to get the sword, didn't even realizes that you could just make him drop it... I don't know how I should feel about this... on one hand I'm stoked he got it, on another hand, I'm slapping myself for not seeing the obvious
You don't need an exploit or command spell to kill the cambion, you can straight up kill him and the mind flayer, just let them beat on each other while you attack whichever is higher health.
My friends and I were finally able to start a playthrough together yesterday, and boy was it chaotic and fun. We found out there was an achievement for killing Commander Zhalk, and made it our mission to kill him. We wound up killing him by taking all of the explosive mindflayer pod things lying around the room and dropping them at his feet, and our brave wizard cast firebolt on them while standing just a bit too close, wound up doing like half Zhalks hit points and our wizard rag dolled into a charcoal statue, but it was worth it and we killed him
I found the cambion with the sword easy to kill, first time around by just pumping him full of attacks at every opportunity, and the next time by putting those barrels around him and blowing them up with fire. Us was a great addition to the team, they will be missed.
Partial Eclipse is my favorite hairstyle, too! Chose it for my Dark Urge Drow Vengeance Paladin/Goolock. Keep making more characters. Keep feeling the Dark Urge to use that hairstyle again for every character... 😂Chat sure made an awesome-looking character, and other very fun choices. Cheers.🍻 Man, now I wanna go make that deep gnome assassin/Shadow monk I was thinking about.
I love that you made a deep gnome monk. That was my very first build in the full release of BG3 and when I converted her to a strength-based tavern brawler monk, she was so strong
Shadowheart's pod can be opened without mentally tickling the console. If you inspect the console you can notice there's an empty socket with something round missing. Go into the adjacent room (the one with the other captive and the comatose cultists and treasure chests), loot one of the dead bodies near the entrance, he has a key. Go back to the other room where you found a chest that was locked. The key open the chest; inside you find a special gemstone you can slot into the console next to Shadowheart's pod, then touch the control pad and voila, she is free.
Thanks for the highlight video. Little rough, but I love these types for games. I have time to play or watch, so I play. But it is so awesome watching what other people do in games like this. Also, poor Asterion lol.
I'm so happy with Baldurs Gate. I stepped away from DnD for a while because of some conflict, but this game and you have made me want to jump back in again. I'm happy to see you still make DnD content and I hope you're doing ok!
As much as people dislike La'zel, she is the only NPC character that has proficiency for the everburning blade. If your character doesn't have proficiency with greatswords, Laz'el is the only one who can use it properly.
Oh my god. I just entered act 3 on tactician and only now realized after watching this that when your team all have an arrow under them in combat you can interchange turn order….
Blocking off the sphincter with a sturdy chest on the ship in the beginning + command drop is an easy way to get the sword away from him and proceed to kill him (for XP).
I didn't even know you could exploit to kill the commander, my friends and I always just take shots at it since the thing only targets the mindflayer and never your team.
I just finished by game with Shadowheart as a 7 Knowledge Cleric and 5 Gloom Stalker Ranger. I never removed her from the party b/c she could do everything. I always used the Cleric power to give her all DEX skill proficiencies. She was a ranged powerhouse with special arrows, had Spirit Guardians up for melee, picked locks, pickpocketed, and could heal. Gave her the amulet that makes it so you pretty much always stabilize while down. She never died. Good build.
My first playthrough is my charlatan bard based on a character in my friend's campaign. Because his besty is a kobold, we tried to do the fight with the kobolds as non-lethal as possible. But I decided to go King of the Hill and name him Rusty Shackelford and I imagine that end of game when everyone trusts him, telling them that they know me under a fake name for tax reasons.
16:34 well if you think about it, rangers and clerics have a pretty similar stat spread and play style (without a bow). So it actually works pretty well
