Hey, everyone! Been a couple months since I've done a character arc video, eh? This is one I've been wanting to do for quite a while, and I finally got around to it -- a look at the character arc of everyone's favorite snobby rich boy from Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Chazz Princeton! I really hope you all enjoy this video and support it (through all the fancy RU-vid call-to-action stuff), because this took quite a while to put together -- not even just because of the length, but also because of all the little visual edits that I did for this video. Unnecessary for the video? Probably. But fun to make and hopefully fun to see? I sure hope so! Anyway, DRINK WATER. You can't Chazz It Up if you're dehydrated!
This video is wonderful. It's so refreshing to see someone talk about Chazz in depth and outside of his meme factor. I adore this boy, he's quite possibly my favorite fictional character. From a life long Chazz simp, thank you! CHAZZ IT UP!

@@SuperNerdDaniel The level of care and detail throughout was amazing. Have to say though that I'm very glad you covered season 4 because most people just ignore it because it wasn't dubbed. The next time someone asks me why I like Chazz so much I'm going to direct them to your video. You've done a much better job at explaining why he's so great than I ever could.

You should! It's not perfect, and 4Kids definitely tried to sanitize some of the darker elements of the story if you're watching the English Dub, but there are honestly some great characters and some fantastic Duels.
You should do video also as well too on Alexis Rhodes, Syrus Truesdale, Jim Crocodile Cook, Bastion Misawa, Aster Phoenix, Zane Truesdale, and also lastly Adrian Gecko in the Yugioh GX Anime TV Series Yugioh Anime Franchise!
Chazz is easily one of my favorite characters in GX. His character arc was interesting to watch, and I wish we could have seen more of him. (Darn you, plot.) Perhaps that’s just me being biased, due to my own younger brother having the same drive that Chazz did to find his own path which, unlike Slade and Jagger, my brother and I actively encouraged our younger brother to find his own way in life, but that’s irrelevant. Chazz’s deck was always cool, with the Ojamas always being entertaining. And I wish we could have seen him duel more. Perhaps we could have seen him and Jesse duel. Props to GX for making such a memorable character.
@@SuperNerdDaniel I believe a character in season 3 made a remark that Jesse was “just Jaden with a Southern accent”. Rather on the nose, if you ask me.
Let's be honest, the reason why Alexis never accepted Chazz's affections is because she knew deep down that she was not worthy of the Chazz. On a side note, I love Chazz's response to finding out that Alexis was in the society of light. His instant reaction is too assume that Sartorius used their love for each other to trick them, and he doubles down on this, by giving Jaden, one of his Ojama cards to remind Alexis of their love.
@@softgalmiu heaven forbid the guy have a crush. And it didn't exactly come out of nowhere. In the very first duel with Jaden when Alexis came in, he's blushing. So that at least had some set up. Could've been great if he moved on but some people do get lovesick which makes some sad sense for Chazz given his dickhead brothers. Who knows what his parents are like.
I think he deserved some more respect during the run of the series and not until the very end. He accepted the ojamas earlier in the show (lets say at least episode 88), after here he had to be shown as a serious duelist but he was still shown as a joke. And he won the Gx tournament, but nobody cared. He also defeated all academy students (twice) and that didn't matter. I love Chazz, I love his development but he was owed more than what he received.
1:51 with an active volcano. Can't forget the active volcano that at least 1 duel has taken place in... Though for learning the game... Mandatory "When" vs optional "When" vs "If" upon inherent summons. Not even getting into spell speeds..
0:57 There is no Season 4, it was all just a weird dream when we smoked too much grass. On Chazz, I feel like he was done a bit dirty. He begins with a neat little arc at the start of the series, which is fine, but then...he still loses to Jaden despite working hard towards a win? Ok? Then after his admittedly well written family-drama(That plotline is great), he becomes a goof and actively brings the world in danger. What? Then he's just himself in Season 2 and enjoys his time when he isn't brainwashed, that's fine again. Then he basically gets no decent material in Season 3 tho(I mean, Season is still great, but...) and then...yeah. I personally would have liked to see an deeper interaction between him and Jaden after the latter returns to the main dimension(sometime before BbT-movie) because Chazz went off on him last time they saw each other for partially justified reasons, but also partially him going a bit far with it. This is also sorta where my "no Season4"-thing comes back, because we can at least assume such a conversation took place offscreen in the dub-continuity. But in japanese, Judai canonically came back much earlier for the season to take place and as far as I remember, that interaction confirmably just did not happen there. Why?
Thats description was deep but got me thinking is season 4 a analogy for growing up and being in the real world. Darkness representing an adult in the situation as the gang is graduating they be thinking like this or something
It says something about your editing and writing and narrative style that I'm not into Yu-Gi-Oh at all and I was engaged in this from start to finish. When done right, rivals-to-friends arcs are one of my favorite fictional tropes of all time, right up there with rivals-to-lovers.

Well, yes and no -- yeah, obviously, the result of the end of that Duel was Chazz being brainwashed into the Society Of Light, but there was also an element of Chazz choosing to succumb to that influence from Sartorius, because the latter tempted him with the power Chazz wanted (in large part to beat Jaden) before the Duel was actually over, and gave Chazz the option as to give in to what he wanted or not. Granted, at that point in the Duel, Chazz was as good as beat, but the influence of the Light Of Destruction was very much susceptible to being resisted based on the target's own willpower -- if you remember, later in that same season, Hassleberry also lost to Sartorius, but was able to resist the influence of the Light and didn't join the Society despite the same thing happening to the likes of Chazz and Bastion.
@@SuperNerdDaniel Now that I think about it is kidna funny how Bastion had the chance so solve everything but just didn't because his ego needed stroking.
6:07 btw in the dub chazz had raised the ante of his duel with misawa from "the loser gets in ra yellow" to "the loser gets expelled" supposedly due to misawa's "baseless" claims turning this in a battle of honor So yeah he only got the chance to be a bad loser in the dub
I couldn't tell you, because honestly, this is one of my favorite videos that I'd made in quite some time. I feel like I put a lot of effort into the analysis of Chazz's character, not to mention the editing, and I think it came out great! But I'm just glad there's at least a few people watching it, haha. That being said, things like giving the video a like and a comment and sharing around other places on the internet would definitely help more people to see it!
