Where to store all the filmmaking gear in a small space? I wish I'd known about this one I've been using for a few months, it's been perfect for my small office space!
When I bought the rolling cart from Home Depot it was about $130. The price online now might be different, but hopefully you can snag a similar deal!

Yes, Heather, well done b/c the price is right too; it is now on my To-Buy List. You may recall helping me out with my questions RE, as a hobby photographer, how to become a hobby video maker, and I'm inching along in that regard, thank you very kindly. Hopefully, that might somehow be the subject of your yet-to-be-identified next course. (?) Sorry, 2 more comments coming... Box savers -I'm the king of- and I also save all my Amazon boxes by flattening them: You never know when someone will need one. Now, product boxes I HAVE TO save b/c I make so many photo-gear purchasing mistakes I know I'm going to have to return it, or sell it and try again. 🤪See, there ARE excellent reasons for box saving! Next... This week I happened accidently onto G.U.'s "Camera Gear Used by RU-vidrs" video from 2021 and recognized the "Fellow Filmmaker" logo among the list. This following several weeks of analyzing your gear and trying to apply it to creating a system for untrained me, a PC guy. (BTW, I'm thinking your advice to consider D.Resolve is excellent.) Anyway, the strange point of this comment is the ridiculous sense of pride I felt in seeing you as a member of the Undone select group, knowing I had only just located and subscribed to your channel 2 weeks earlier. Cue music from The Twilight Zone. 😊 Update: Oops! Just checked your link below to Amazon and the cheapest is $319, not $130. There is one seller for $275 but you have to add $40 for shipping. Something is a-tilt. Home Depot shows it for $129.

Happy to hear this helped you find a good fit for your to-buy list! :D It's true, a good box can do alot of thing! I keep a few incase I need to ship anything oddly shaped. And yes, it was fun to be a part of Gerald's video :D And yes, you can find it on Home Depot cheaper, it's where I did end up getting it. Amazon is not the affordable option it would seem right now for it. :) Hope you can grab one soon!

I'm doing the same thing with a second hand tool cart. however, mine is even smaller and arguably too small. I also have some big drainage pipes I can clip to the side in upright position to stick tripods in. I definitely re use boxes and things like ziplocks, but I don't hoard them. I toss all boxes that aren't a nice compact size to keep stuff in. Mobile phone boxes are usually great too!

Great tip. Thought about one, but I've got a closet with shelves, so don't need extra storage out in the office. (Plus I'm always trying to purge and stay semi-minimal lol) I am a big fan of Husky workbenches. I've been using a 6 foot stationary and a 52" wheeled hand-crank height adjustable bench for my edit/workstation. Bought another 6 foot to replace the stand-up desk, which I'll turn into an art table/product/camera setup station instead. It's amazing what you can find searching through a Home Depot/Lowe's/Harbor Freight store. And yeah, I hoard all the boxes also - just for resale down the road. :-)

I’ve been meaning to ask you about your tool box after seeing it in a few videos. An excellent idea. Husky boxes are well made and that’s a good size for an apartment. My first roller box was the same size. After 34 years, I still use it. I currently don’t have a organization solution since my wife won’t let me bring a tool box inside the house. Lol. And yes I horde small boxes. Idk why.

This is great! Now for the next topic, cable storage. I have hangers and drawers of cables and they always tangle and mix due to me being inherently chaotic. Tried color coding but that turned out to be surprisingly ineffective. I used to be a box hoarder too. You never know when you need to send/store/sell something, right? Plus it gives you a nice overview of all the gear you collected. I stopped doing it as I was running out of space. Now I save boxes until the end of the year, use them to wrap Christmas presents, and then take them out for recycling.

I went with the Milwaukee Packout system. Similar idea but a lot more portable. It's modular too. So I build up 2 boxes with Tungsten lights, 2 with LEDs, one 2-drawer system with audio gear, one with diffusion and bounce, etc. And every module gets labeled. When I need to go on a job, I load the modules I need in the car and roll out. I don't have to go looking for my gear, and I don't have to do any packing. Everything stays ready to go all the time. (And yes I keep my boxes for resale. Or so I tell myself.)

@@FellowFilmmaker Additionally, If you put the larger wheeled case on the bottom you can roll it anywhere, grass, carpet, etc. They also interlock so when you stack them they lock together. Even if it takes a tumble they don't come apart. Look at their small organizers for small parts. Fantastic for small grip stuff, tape, fasteners, etc. You can turn it upside down and shake it, and everything stays in place. Whole system IP 65 rated so you can leave it out in the rain if necessary. Best of luck, and love your channel!

Nice! I was looking for something like this, but slightly smaller in over-all bulk, and something I can lift in and out of my car because on-location use is a more common situation for me than in-studio. I got a used (Habitat for Humanity RESTORE) stackable set of toolboxes that have a handle and a couple wheels that can be pulled around like luggage. It's pretty much what I need but I immediately maxed out its capacity. Something like this Husky box may be more the size I need. How do you get it in and out of your vehicle? I don't have an SUV, so being able to manually lift it in and out of my hatchback was a consideration. That is a great sized unit, storage volume-wise.

Haha, I think it's an excuse all filmmakers go by. :) The only time I toss a box is if I'm sure to keep the product for good. Or has little resale value. And that's one neat sounding setup you've got going on! Happy it's working for you too

Definitely a bit of a box hoarder. It for sure ups the resell value as it seems more legit than a floating lens or camera body. My wife is not a big fan of course so I definitely try to keep it down to more of the higher value items.

I’ve got one like this too. It’s excellent. My drawers are a mixture and some very small ones too. I have another chest of drawers with leads oh so many leads on. So yes it’s great and I have a battery charging board for all my batteries. Great to watch this and watch more of your work. Also Have you managed to charge a ml60 light with a vmkunt battery ? As of like to know. Great to see another female film video maker like myself in here. I need to get in front of the camera but it’s hard. And yes to boxes. Keep them all as end up selling gear later on. You know what else I use is a hairdressers makeup trolly box. For more gear. It’s black and on wheels and kinda matches this but is a smaller version of this to be honest. I do feel I need to slim down my stuff though
@FellowFilmmaker

I bought one of these, pre-assembled. It took me an hour to get it into my car--I had to take the wheels and handles off. Fortunately, I was right outside a home depot, a great source of wrenches and screwdrivers. Please note that the manual inside the tool cart contains incorrect size information for the bolts connecting things together. That was really annoying, and doubled the back and forth trips into the store.
@FellowFilmmaker
@FellowFilmmaker 2 года назад
That sounds a bit annoying, sorry you had that experience
@drportland8823
@drportland8823 2 года назад
@@FellowFilmmaker I didn't mean to sound that negative :-). More of a learning experience. It was still definitely worth the money invested. And mine was on sale for $109 when I bought it, so even with the extra tool purchases I technically got a better deal than you listed. Assuming I count my time at $7.50 per hour or less, anyway. HarborFreight is another place to look for tool carts. They are always running 20% or 25% off a single item coupons, which can bring things down further. They don't have anything that quite matches the husky cart deal, though.
