Cheap Tesla gets All New Front Suspension - Alignment Time! 

Randy, you're a better man than I'm in dealing with Firestone. I hate it when someone boldface lies to me. That's all that Firestone did for you. Personally, I wouldn't trust Firestone to fill my window washer reservoir.

WD40 is NOT a lubricant. It is a Water Displacer (hence the name WD40) Always use a PENETRATING OIL to loosen bolts. To PREVENT bolts corroding, use a metal conditioner (rust preventative) spray such as RUST CHECK, FLUID FILM or KROWN. These all will penetrate fasteners and bushings, preventing binding and corrosion issues. We use it in the rust belt but it's good everywhere. Cheap insurance.

Firestone is run by a bunch of inexperienced, poorly trained techs - period - but especially here in PA. Never take your car there. The fact that they called tell you your car was ready, and were all set to charge you the $200 is unbelievable. Hopefully, you voiced your complaint to the manager and Firestone Corp.

Firestone did the same thing to me a couple years ago and ever since I won't set foot in a Firestone. I think they think most people are just going to pick up their car and not get the printout

Wow, can't believe Firestone. I've always had good luck with them and got the alignment spec sheet on my cars, and I've been using them for 35+ years. Oh well, at least you asked and found out.

I took my 2017 Model S to Firestone for an alignment. They advertised that they do alignments on Teslas. When I went to the service counter, the guy told me they don't do Teslas. He basically reminded me of someone making their fingers into a cross to avoid a vampire. I called other places and they said the same thing. There's a Les Schwab about a mile from my house and they had NO problem doing an alignment on my car. They even balked with me in how these other major shops would no do something as simple as an alignment. They even gave me my printout. If you have a Les Schwab out there, take it to them.

Hi Randy. When you showed the charging door not closing, the first thing I said to myself was, "Get a magnet." When you tell the new owner concerning the alignment, I bet he'll say, "No big deal. I live five miles from a TESLA Service Center."

Firestone is such a shady company worked for them close to 5 years. So much miss communication between techs , service writers , managers ect. I'd stay away like if it were the pleg tbh , but that's just me. Good content Randy like always 🤘

Randy you’ve put a lot into this Tesla. It sounds like everything is good. Hopefully you can get it aligned. Don’t blame you for asking for paperwork.

I recently purchased a 2014 Tesla model S, I had the same metal clinking noise in the front, 224K miles, drove perfect though, and has had a new battery and motor, you don't have to replace the upper control arms, just drill out the rivets for the ball joint and put the new one in and use bolts and nuts, I literally just replaced my ball joint and front struts yesterday, really wasn't bad

I have a 2015 P90D with 150k miles. Best car I have ever owned by far! While I have none of the issues this particular car has, this is great info for me as I plan to keep this beast of a car forever! So far I have had to replace all 4 door handles. The new handles are more robust and will not break. I did 2 of the handles myself with a $20 part from Amazon. I paid Tesla $300 a pop to do the other 2. I did the MCU2 upgrade which was optional ($1900) but I love it! 2 window regulators failed at around 120k miles and were replaced by Tesla @ $200 a pop. Door handle and window regulator designs have been updated and are no longer an issue. I have also an Acura/Honda. The 105k service requires a tune up. timing belt, water pump replacement. This is scheduled maintenance and costed $3,000. I have spent more money maintaining my $40k MSRP Honda/Acura than my $115k MSRP Tesla! Other than that the Model S has been completely trouble free. Not bad for a 700hp 4 door daily driver!

This morning I called a regular local tire shop to see about aligning the front end on our X, $150, 1 1/2 hours possibly because they need to remove plastic, then I called Les Schwab $129, about an hour. Great videos, love what you do. My grandfather said to always ask to see the old parts that they replace. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

19:17 there is a manual release inside the trunk liner, behind the charge port, to release the charge handle if locked in place.

Always check the simple things first. And, you probably passed 3 better alignment shops on your way to Firestone. You're correct in not trusting them. I've never had a good experience at Firestone. They're all about the upsell even more than a quick lube place. There's a real good local shop in downtown OKC "Modern Wheel Brake and Alignment". They're honest know their stuff, and reasonably priced. They never blinked when I brought my C6 or G500 to them after I did some work.

Hello Randy. Finishing the front suspension on the 2005 Tesla S P85. And hopefully getting the tps sensors working.

My Grandson took his Solstice to Firestone in north OKC to have 2 tpms sensors replaced and a tire fixed. He had the work done, payed the $185.00 bill, took the car home. Next morning the tire was flat and the tpms system was not reading any tire pressure. He called Firestone and they told him it would be a week before they could get it back in to check it out. He takes it in a week later, they tell him the tire is not repairable and the car is to old to have tpms . He took it to a independent auto repair, they reset the tpms and repaired the tire $75. All is great now. Stay clear of Firestone.

It’s OK to make mistakes, we all do it. It’s just important that you realize it and can go back and fix it and admit it and learn. That’s all that really matters!

May make a suggestion. Making a “short “ of the charge port fix might help a lot of people

I completely sympathize your frustration, I understand how scummy some places are about repairs, say they did it when they never did it, I would hope you don't get rid of the car, i think it's still a good ev despite the new problems it has, but I know we can't tell you what to do when it comes too selling a vehicle, but I would hope everything gets resolved and the tesla stays long term

I would find it very interesting to see the difference in service between the Tesla sales and service.

You need to extend the drain for the a/c. The condensation from the a/c drips on top the the main battery. Firestone can align. It depends on the tech. The hunter alignment machines are the same.

Suggestions to improve the exterior looks: shiny blacked out trim and post facelift front end.

I have watched several wheel alignment videos,,,, they usually last about an hour for a 4 wheel alignment,, I would imagine that a ride height adjustment would take about 10 0r 15 minutes more time,, (Did you happen to find a 1/4 in. spacer laying on your shop floor when you were done replacing all of your suspension parts??),, I found it very entertaining when at the beginning of the video, you said you were going to keep your Tesla forever,,, too,,, at the end of your video saying that you were going to get rid of it,,, lol,,, :-)

Simple solution to the long drive to Tesla, you have a truck and a trailer. Sucks for the inconvenience, but you gotta do what you gotta do

When it comes to saw blades I always used the Bimetal blades they are made to cut through any metal except stainless steel. Stainless steel is a whole different beast they make blades that are for stainless but anyways the bimetal blades are the best for cutting any bolts that are in cars.

The chain shops are hit or miss, depending on how they are run. I have a local Firestone and a local Discount Tire which are both good. I usually go to Discount Tire for tires and rotations. Went to Firestone recently for brakes and they used quality parts at a decent price. I could see the new parts on the car, of course, in that scenario LOL. And I never leave anywhere without a printout or emailed receipt, for sure!

If we lived in say California I bet we wouldn’t have that problem.There would be enough secondary shops to take them to.Like say an Electrified Garage type of shop.But just like the lack of charging stations we have a long way to go before the local shops catch up..

I don’t trust Firestone. I got a brand new car that’s been dealer maintained since factory miles. When I brought that car to Firestone for an oil change and tire rotation. My car has 2 doors under the skid plate for the oil drainage and oil filter. The technician forgot to properly put the plastic clips back on and so while I was on the interstate. One of the door came off and was only being held by 1 metal screws. They tried to tell me how it’s ok and I don’t see it and tried to not do anything about it. I had to file a claim with corporate and that’s when they tried to fix the problem. Kia doesn’t sell just the doors. Has to buy the whole skid plate. Costs around 800$ 😂 so the manager apparently got a hold of a company that only sells the doors and it’s back ordered for 2-3months. So now I’m just waiting for that. I don’t recommend Firestone at all. Specially if you care about your cars.

Well Randy, you do seem to have a nack for finding dishonest businesse, that is twice now in a short time that someone tried to rip you off, first the Tesla dealer trying to sell you the wrong car, now Firestone happily trying to take money from you for doing no work to your car, I think you should keep the car, you like it and you save money on gas.

I always align my own wheels by eye since I worked on a car's front suspension and took it to have it aligned 'professionally' but they didn't charge me because I had aligned it by eye perfectly.

Maybe give the car a Reset to fix the Charge Port Issue (Plug in & Out). To make a Reset push the two Buttons on the Steering Wheel for ca. 30 Seconds or the two Buttons plus the Brake Paddle. Car will shut down und start again. LG from Gemany Geran

Randy, I just saw your video on your Tesla and all the work that you’ve done to it and you taking to fire stone and then I’m not doing anything to the alignment for you. Unfortunately I think that you’re gonna have to possibly if you feel up to it just take it to Tesla and have them do the alignment on it but it is your choice not mine that’s what I just suggested it’s your car of course so you can do whatever you want with it, of course but if it’s working just fine, I would just leave it alone and drive it the way it is without having to take it to Tesla, but I’ll just see what you end up doing in the next video on it. If you decide to take it to Tesla that’s great if you don’t that’s great too. I guess we’ll see what happens in your next video on it. if you decide to take it to Tesla or not, it’s your car and I hope you get it straightened out the way you want and we’ll have to see if you decide to sell it or keep it. Hmmm, Tesla is pretty good for giving loaners. You might want to at least call and ask like you said.

I would be disappointed if you get rid of that Tesla over an alignment. You've done all the work to get it basically in great condition. You enjoy the car and you've got chargers at home and the shop. It seems like it is the perfect daily for you and buying a new one will just put a huge debt for little benefit.

Firestone is a last resort for me for anything. As I learned more about cars I started to realize just how much Firestone rips people off. The one thing that irritates me about all repair places is they claim to do vehicle inspections to recommend services if need but in reality they are just looking at mileage and manufacturer recommend services. It makes it difficult to trust anyone so people need to learn what their vehicle needs and doesn't need.

I have done a Alignment in years because I sell them before that point. If I have done in the past... the service person or when it's time to pay, they give a read out of the degrees of the Alignment it was off. But you can't escape Elon. That's were Tesla gets you.
