My 65th birthday is next week, for my first cheat day everyone is asking me what I want for dinner. I started carnivore January 23, 2023 and lost 70 pounds, now I’m keto. I’ve been sooo excited about my cheat day but I found myself thinking about what I want to cheat with and I can’t think of anything that is worth the 3 days of pain and regret afterwards. So, idk. I am happy not cheating 😊

I had a small amount of cranberries(that had a very small amount of sugar in it), green beans, and a few bites of pie for Thanksgiving. I’ve been regretting it since. It’s taken me this entire time to get back to normal. I gained 5 pounds, bloated, constipated, and have felt down/depressed/ low energy since. I’m just now,11 days later, starting to feel better. Not worth it. I will remember this!

There's NO WAY it's possible to gain 5 pounds from a few bites of pie. That is literally thermodynamic ly impossible. A normal human would have to eat 3 entire pies on top if their normal diet to gain a single pound of fat.

people who's body reacts with inflamation can indeed add water, bloat, inflamed muscles that retain more water and plasma... oh yes 5 pounds is possible! been there and have the fit-scale to say 'done' that. @@user-wz9pu7ty9z

It’s more about how you feel too. For me if I have something sugary, I feel like crap, but if I eat a cheeseburger no bun, I feel so good.

Agree 100%. I have something sweet, and I am eating it until it is gone and then back buying more. It not only affects me mentally, but I get severe immflamation and weight gain. I am an addict, so for me? Sugar is not only a cheat, but a slide down a horrible slope that can take me weeks to get back on track

I started ketovore in April of '22, and had never cheated up until this Thanksgiving. I had a couple bites of cheesecake. It was crustless, so no grains, and it wasn't overly sweet. I gave myself permission to do it, it didn't negatively affect me, and I didn't fret about it. But it wasn't worth it either. I can no longer say I've never cheated. My (62nd) birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to the steak I have planned. It'll be a real treat since I can't usually afford steak :D

Before the makeup you looked beautiful to me and I just wanted to say that because its so true! I can't eat raw onion anymore but if they are cooked or dry minced onion I can. I think chemo made it harder for me to digest raw vegetables. Anyway I'm mostly Carnivore with a little tomato minced onion and garlic powder and chili powder on occasion. Thank you for telling how your cheat went. You are an inspiration to all!❤

I found I can on a cheat have a small amount of tomatoes and cucumber. I tries with onions and boom body aches and my skin leached the smell of onions for days. Even after showering. I am a 1x a month cheat as I'm still trying to lose stubborn fat and am getting off medication for pain I have been taking for over 2.5 yrs.😊 I'm proud of what I have achieved so far. I also agree we are all different but we all want the same result. A healthy working body without pain.

I’m so thankful that I was able to enjoy the full Thanksgiving spread with no side effects. I sent all the leftovers with family except for some turkey and ham. It took me exactly one week to lose the weight I gained but I enjoyed the meal. I was not able to do this in the first 5 months of being on carnivore but I’m committed to improving my health and carnivore makes me feel wonderful so it’s easy for me to get right back on track. I’ve lost over 60 pounds, I’m no longer diabetic, I thank God for showing me the PHD. I thank everyone for their encouragement and I encourage anyone that wants to feel amazing to give the carnivore lifestyle a chance.

True, I do not like sugar and have been this way my whole life. Nightshades and Oxalates send me over the edge, tomatoes, spinach, kale, potatoes, peppers etc, lots of veggies. The only " bread" if I ever choose to eat that does not effect me is a tortilla, lard and flour. The only cheese I can eat with No side effects is provolone. I love salsa, but it does not love me. So I cheet with alcohol. Facts: it knocks you out of ketosis. It will not let you loose weight. It turns everything to fat first, so sucks right? So are cheats really worth it? All cheats are different. Know your body. If I eat sugar I throw up. SO no sugar. Just figure out what you can and can not do.

Because I’m severely allergic to chocolate so my cheat day would’ve been some sort of green as well versus a doughnut that had chocolate on it or around it it cuts off my airway, so I think I’d rather breathe and have a zucchini, even a carrot versus not breathing❤ Thank you for all you say and do for us.

I cheated with having a pumpkin and raw milk smoothie I made for my kids...immediate diarrhea. I was shocked because raw milk is no problem for me!

Spot on that is what I try to say A treat (not a fan of cheat word) DOES not have to mean junk but many think it does and its how you respond why what does it bug you etc. :) As a hardcore carnivore I also think folks just need to do what makes them happy and feel good and we are all adults :) what someone else does WONT effect you so no worries if they are NOT eating just like you :)

my first cheat day was after 1 yr of doing keto, battered prawns and samosas boy did i feel ill after , a banging headache and i was so thirsty.. i regret it,im nearly 64 and can honestly say ive never felt better, i'm pre-diabetes so im low on carbs. i copied your recipe for cheese tacos, so thankyou for that..

I like that Neisha! I had a scoop of vanilla ice cream on my birthday. Even before I started keto, I was having adverse reactions to sweets. My mistake was not limiting it to half a scoop which would have been about 1/2 a cup. Another time I had 1/2 a slice of German chocolate cake. It didn't trigger any binges but just delayed my progress which was disappointing. Anyway, thank you.

I have very sensitive skin and am looking for natural/organic products. I have been using Ecco Bella which are great products. I am the same way, cannot have a lot of keto friendly foods because of IBS and how my body responds to it. Slowly learning and accepting it's okay to be weird so I can feel good.

I actually like collared greens better. I haven't had those in months. Funny, you mentioned donuts. I told a friend of mine the other day that I haven't had a donut in almost three years. He said I'll have to go buy you a dozen. I said no thanks. It's by choice. I think he's a little envious, because he's diabetic. I'm not and never have been. Too much sugar makes me ill now. Broke my sugar addiction a couple of years ago.

I had company over for dinner, so with our steak, I made mashed cauliflower and sautéed brussel sprouts with bacon and I had some. Something I ate made me feel horrible. I'm not sure which item it was, or if it was a combo, so I don't know what thing made me feel that way. I kinda wish I would have ate just one of the veggies so I knew, but I won't be trying it again to find out. I'm pretty much a meat and heavy cream only person, with occasional cheese as a treat.

Neisha, I love this framing! What has become a cheat for me has changed so much as my body has aged and my diet transformed. I am constantly learning. I won't beat myself up for having a homegrown fruit or even a slice of pie occasionally, but I've given up cheat days as a habit. Cheating for me doesn't take the edge off as much as it really highlights how crappy my "favorite foods" make me feel now. Cheat days hurt, physically for some of us, and I appreciate you sharing your experience so openly. I hope you're feeling much better now! 🥰

Totally agree. I had a "cheat" the other day with a tablespoon (or two) of natural peanut butter. I know it's a slippery slope, so it's on my cheat list, but I really wanted a treat and that's what I chose. When I was Keto, it was a nightly treat with whipped cream, now, it's a once in awhile treat for now (hoping to give it up completely in the future) and I really enjoyed it. However, I know where it leads and I have to be very careful. Funny, considering less than a year ago I was eating ho hos, fries, and cheetos on the weekly. Now that I've cleaned up my diet and am ketovore, I'm much more in tune with my triggers and what I consider a cheat. Oh, funny thing, I also have a salad when we go out from time to time. I consider that a cheat too. My hubby, who is not ketovore or even keto, thinks I'm insane, but salad does bad things to my insides and makes me itch, so it's treat/cheat every once is awhile. Life just cracks me up!

I used to occasionally eat Asparagus and Brussel Sprouts but I stopped because the Asparagus inflamed my sciatic nerve and the Brussel Sprouts cause some bad hip pain the last time I ate them. I do miss those veggies but I don't miss the discomfort they cause me.

I was worried about going to Thanksgiving dinner with family but I only had a very small amount of dressing and potatoes, mostly just ate turkey and I paid for it! Went right back to carnivore the day after and feeling great again! Thank you for all of your support and wisdom. I could not have done this without you and Dr Berry. I would love for you to put my makeup on one day. You should teach a video one day of exactly what you just put on & why. It looks good & natural too. I guess I need more time eating Carnivore because I have lost my ability to do things & talk at the same time. Me too. Vegetables would cause me sever reaction. But chips, chocolate, white flour and rice are fine. So my cheat days are basically junk foods 😋

I've figured out that my body tolerates flour really well! Which opened up several occasional foods for me! (Primarily my homemade cream of chicken and my apple crisp recipe! As occasional treats!) I'm able to do bread! But anything with soybean in it is a nope. But kinda like you, I can eat some junk food whereas some veggies are a no go!

@@amandamwardrop it is weird right!. A healthy and natural fruit or a salad would send me to the ER yet eating KFC and chocolates is fine!. Still, these are only on cheat days since regularly consuming carbs does harm me too. Glad you’ve found a window for incorporating safe food in your diet 👍🏻

I am eating proper human diet. But last night I ate Brussels sprouts with cheddar cheese sauce and chicken wings with Louisiana sauce last night for supper. Today I woke up starving and my lower back, knees, shoulders, feet, hands, etc ache. Was the Brussels sprouts the cause? Definitely. I eat the wings a couple time a month and no problem. Was it worth it? Last night my brain said a few won’t hurt you, today I thinking no way am I doing that again. Will I do it again? Probably. But a donut would cause much more than just ache. It would cause much pain plus tummy issues. Not ever worth a bite. I do really bad with chemicals in my food. It took a long time of listening to my body to learn what it likes, what it tolerates, and what it doesn’t tolerate at all.. for years when my body was in pain and inflamed I just thought I’m having a bad day. Now I think about what I ate to cause my bad day and was it really worth it. And when I eat something to cause a bad day it is never one bad day. It can take a week or even a month to get over the flair I caused my body..

I prefer to keep certain vegetables in my diet. When you go without then try to eat them your body no longer has the ability yo digest . Microbiome has lost what it needs to use those foods . Cruciferous vegetables and greens and berries are staying in for me

How long did your reaction last??? I recently"cheated" thought I was having keto cupcakes, turns out they were not keto! Omg, my Sjogrens really flared up for several days!!!! I just learned I can't eat aioli. Never had it before, so when my daughter in law gave me some, I tried it. All night and into today, disaster pants 😂 So that's off the cheat list😊

I have the same type of sever reactions when I eat fruits and vegetables, I would love if you could give advice as to what someone needs to do in order to get testing done for autoimmune disorders. I've been to a ton of Physicians and have dealt with a lot of gaslighting and/or incorrect or irrelevant tests being ordered trying to get to the root of the problem. I did have an allergy test done a few months ago that shows oral allergy syndrome but would love to know what to ask my physician for in order to be properly diagnosed.

You need to find a provider who specializes in autoimmune, it’s all about testing for the antibodies

I cheated too many times in 6 years. Literally can't get back to losing weight. Nothing left after carnivire for me, so I just have to deal with it. Don't cheat. My son too. We were doing so good and now it's like our metabolism is screwed. Went carnivore 4 months and no change. Just felt better but still we gained. I dunno what happened. Don't cheat. Not everyone gets the same results after. I did lose 101 lbs but it's almost back . not sure what to try after carnivore. My son too... We should of stuck to it.
