Thank you so much for your video. It helped me determine that the thread take-up spring was moved to the other side of a partition in the machine after I removed some shredded thread from inside the machine. I moved the spring up and down as you suggested, and it popped back into place and My Brother Luminaire XP3 is working perfectly again. Many thanks for making this video.👏

Thank you! You have saved me twice so far. The first time was with number 6 on the PE800. This video was a life saver too. I didn't see any thread caught anywhere, but when you mentioned that the wire should not be getting stuck I kept moving it up and down until it freely moved. My machine started back working and no more error messages on checking thread. Thank you so much!!

Thank you, Keith. Your advice saved my project and gave me more insight into my machine. I am becoming my own Brother service-woman thanks to you and a few others.

Oh thanks so much for this. Just what I needed. My machine started to do this just as the pandemic srtruck the world and shops were closed so I couldn't take my machine for service. I turned the sensor off to be able to carry on but that was not really good as I wouldn't know if the bobbin was out of thread. I knew from another video that it was the spring you have shown us but had no idea what to do about it, so, thanks again.

Well, after a long search for a suitable screwdriver, I followed your instructions but couldn't see anything blocking the spring. It was moving freely. So, I will be doing some embroidery later and I will let you know how I get on.

Well, so far, so good! I've made two jigsaw coasters which take a lot of embroidery and haven't had any problems except once when I wasn't concentrating and the thread was caught at the bottom of the cone. I hate it when that happens. To stop this When the machine is running I allow the thread to run over my hand from the stand so I can detect if it gets caught. I'm not sure how else to get over this. Also, I watched your video on fixing top thread tension. I had a look but couldn't see anything. In either case there must have been something and I'm happy all seems well. Fingers crossed! So, thank you so much for showing us these videos. Saved my sanity!

@@keithlordsewing When I needed a new needle all I had left at the time was a 90/14 Universal so I put that in my machine as I am impatient and didn't want to wait until new needles arrived! What a difference!! My machine now purrs along happily all the time. I think I just have a very fussy machine! You get to know your machine's little foibles as you go along. Thank you so much for all your troubleshooting videos. Without them I would probably have given up! I have bought a thread stand which sits on top of the machine and holds ten spools which has solved my problems with the thread coming off the spool. Also, good thread makes a real difference. I love the Floriani and the Kingstar metallic.

No idea where to start with an answer Tracy, if nothing in my videos relate to the issue you’re having you need to work through it step by step with your dealer or an engineer you trust. With things like this we usually help our customers over the phone because more information is needed to point us in the right direction.

'Ive had a continuous issues with my pressure foot lever falling down and when move it up and down there's no pressure. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Or fighting up the lever that lifts bar up and down. It's feels lose. It has no snap to it like it use to brother se1900 will not embroidery or sew the bar won't even come down far enough to snap on sewing foot I know I should take it to a shop but no way I can afford it. There's only one shop in area and one person who can work on these.. there's 43 machines waiting. I have to pay 75 just to leave it then 8 to 10 week wait.. plus labor and parts . So I am trying to fix it myself

Hi Keith I purchased a brother V5 from Lords a couple of months ago and it is working like a dream. I see that people are continually saying to snip the thread and pull it through the needle and to never pull the thread back out the way it went In as it will damage the machine and that thread is designed to only go one way . Please can you let me know if this is true.
@keithlordsewing
@keithlordsewing 3 года назад
Hi Susan, not entirely true. Your thread can be removed from the top providing the end of the thread is cleanly cut. If your thread is frayed or shredded then pull down from the needle having snipped at the top as you want to minimise thread becoming trapped in the tension unit. To be honest, all of us at Lords pull the thread upwards, but then, we've been doing it a long time and know what to look for. Thread isn't generally "directional" in manufacture and can mostly be used any way providing it runs smoothly through your machine. I hope that helps, Keith.

I’ve got the remnants of a thread that’s looped & tied around the sensor wire. I’m watching my machine carefully. For the most part it’s stitching and embroiders as usual. But I’d prefer getting that thread off the sensor wire. Any ideas for me? Thank you!
@keithlordsewing
@keithlordsewing 3 года назад
It's fiddly Anne, you could try snipping at the remnants with fine pointed scissors and very fine pointed tweezers like mine to keep pulling at the thread ends. The plastic cover over that section on some models can be unclipped and pulled off for easier access to the sensor wire (there's a small bulbous retaining node on the left stopping the cover popping off, slightly ease it over then lift forwards and upwards).
@rebeccasue2009

My question for you is how do you replace that little spring and what is it called? Mine is old and it's falling down so I have to literally hold it up for the machine to work. I use a small object to push it up about an inch and it runs smoothly.
@keithlordsewing
@keithlordsewing 2 года назад
That's a job for a professional repairer as the front cover of the machine needs removing.

Can this be done on the Luminaire Keith?
@keithlordsewing
@keithlordsewing 4 года назад
Carol, no, you can't take the faceplate off the XP1 Luminaire. If thread gets caught around the spring you'll need to carefully remove from the front of the machine to the right of number 3 thread guide.

@@keithlordsewing Do you have a video showing how to remove the front of the Luminaire? I continually get thread shreds stuck there, and I'm an hour and a half from my dealer in another state.
@keithlordsewing
@keithlordsewing 3 года назад
@@bethh6527 As I said to Carol I’m afraid not and I don’t recommend you try. The problem you have is shredding of thread which you need to have addressed so that it’s not causing you this problem. You may need to have a slight adjustment made if you’ve already checked my other video and you still have the issue.
