Couldn't imagine my childhood being without Coaches Corner. Saturday evenings watching Hockey on my parents ancient T.V. , begging to stay up for "just one more period" , burnt popcorn , coke outta a Glass bottle... Dam , I loved the Saturday HNIC memories. Order of Canada ..... Pffft You are LOVED by the people who make this Great Country what it is , the PEOPLE. All Canadian citizens. Who cares about the few elites that THINK they know who Canada really appreciates , or Who made impacts on Generations of families. True Canadians know. We love you Don... 👍
Glass bottle coke is the best!!! We must have come from the same place ..... :) haaahahahaa. Everything you said goes for me too. Staying up for "one" more period...
Somehow there were 163 Canadians ahead of him in consideration for Order of Canada. I'm sure he doesn't care. Think of the people doing the selections or ratings or whatever.
Just watched the 50 in 39 game, Cherry was the analyst. In a game Gretzky scored 5 goals, Cherry commented on how many assists he'd have if he played with Lafleur or Bossy. Lafleur.... the guy that got him fired as BB coach. Respect for Don
@@bobmcrae5751 does that really matter to you,l had a grandfather I admired, but still loved him for some of his idiosyncrasies toward politics ect.we all have our views, this never caused harm to anyone,I still looked up to his other great qualities
@Gavron Gmar .... you must be another right wing beta male. Too insecure to support equal rights? Where Im from, the strong help the weak ... they dont complain about social security, helping refugees, supporting women ... they fucking man up, go to work and help those who need it
@@phantomstratocaster : Tretiak never even played in the NHL so he should not be in the hall nor should any of the women that were recently inducted. People argue it's the HHOF not the NHL HOF but I disagree. The highest level of competition is the NHL so the HHOF should only include NHL players.
The policemen like me.. Soldiers like me.. And the firemen like me. ..... Also Don, i like you... and so does 90% of canada... We love u don. U are a Canadian treasure.
@@Michael-pc1bo He was one of Don Cherry's favourite players too, I remember. So why do you suppose Cherry doesn't think he should be in the HOF? Cause no GM would ever take Verbeek over Fleury, at any time during Fleury's career. So what happened there?
Agreed , anyone who endured what he did , physically emotionally and physiologically then make it to NHL and play at the level he did , special person on and off the ice .
@@Pernicion He was a small player when there were no small players in the NHL, plus he was a star who won a cup and not sure if he won gold in Olympics for us? But he is an easy HOF player for me
Cross: This man's still the most knowledgeable voice in hockey...usually the folks that don't like him are the Politically Correct. I'm a Habs fan but that doesn't stop me from acknowledging him as a national treasure.
Saw Don down at the mall sitting in his truck outside a few years back. He always had time to talk to anyone who was interested in talking about anything. Props to Don for support of our Military and Essential services and being nothing but a proud dyed in the wool, Canadian.
The private sector is essential. The public sector doesnt exist without the private sector first. Look at any society that breaks down and the police are one of the first 'essential services' that will abandon their post when things go haywire.
I love what Cherry has done for hockey. But he has been stretching himself too thin. Remember on the Coaches Corner after Game 6 of Finals, he demonstratively and emphatically stated that St. Louis would never win in Boston. I dont think a younger Cherry would have gone out on a limb like that. After all, any veteran hockey watcher knows on any give day any team can overcome the odds and win. Its such a game of millimeters after all. And all these players can rise to the occasion. And thats what happened in game 7 in Boston. Even though Boston was possibly a better team on paper. Perhaps Don is getting tired of being too professional. But I still love his persona. Once he retires, he will be sorely missed.
Ya i was a little surprised he went out on that limb too but thats Grapes, states his opinion for better or worse ! Younger Cherry was a little more brash then he is these days but HNIC wouldnt be the same without him
Na man, dont bring politics into it. Being a beer guy while Ron is a wine guy is more about the social circle they run in ,where Don is a meat and potatoe guy, a blue collar IMO
There are plenty of hard working Canadians who think Cherry is a bigoted dinosaur. If you have been watching HNIC as long as I have, you would know that if Cherry had his way Ovetchkin would be playing in Russia and Colton Orr would be the Leafs captain.
@@jraf7638 Do you think if you spoke your feeling live on air for all those years ,people would see your shortcomings also.thats why I respect him ,he is at least honest, can't say that for many people, even when scripted
@Chewy Ltd Well stated my chewy I remember school gymnasium when goal was scored ,even the teachers became cool For giving us that moment in our time Thanks
Warmington needs to not say "he just WON 12 million over eight years" no, he EARNED that much. That's how it works. this isn't a lottery, its a business that involves talent, hard work and being elite at what you do. That's how the market works. the Leafs ownership can more than afford it.
c'mon Don, cause some shi…. and keep pushing for Paul to be in the hall, if you start something a lot of fans will get on board, it is a shame that Henderson is not in
Henderson is not a hall of famer. His career stats are average. He scored one huge goal in his career. One needs to do more than that to be in the hall.
Cherry and I would never see eye to eye politically but you have to respect the man when it comes to his take on hockey and professional sports. He is patriotic without becoming overly nationalistic. He always makes a 'pinko' like me proud to be Canadian (when talking hockey and history)
Grapes is an icon and a straight shooter which is rare in this day and age and even more rare in television. I dont know why he brushed off Fleury but I think Fleury has earned a spot in the hockey hall of fame
@@godhere6459 I believe he had a lot of assists so doubt that he knew how to fight. To be best you should 1 impact a game& be able to 2score, 3scate, 4move puck & 5help team.
@@godhere6459 He has a brother Colton that did some fights to help his team--u may confusing them. Apparently Bobby had injured knees & was forced to other teams. #1 is probably Mathews & he is big so intimidates opponents as well. I agree w u that u can I'm pact the team/flow if u have size.
@@waynejohanson1083 You obviously have no clue because you weren't around or you're not Canadian. He scored the winning goals in games 6,7 and 8. Don't even talk to me. It's not debatable. And shame on you if you are a Canadian.
Not the ones where teams are using their best players. I respect Finland and all, but in the tournaments where teams have the availability of all their players, Finland hasn't won.
@Mladenian Tomlinson 2014, 2010, 2006, 2002, 1998 all had best on best (in which Finland has 2 bronze and 1 silver while Canada has 3 gold). These are basically the past 5 Olympics not including 2018. For juniors, Canada has 17 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze, while Finland has 5 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze. Your point about Finland being the reigning junior champions is valid, but your suggestion that the Finns have been playing the best junior hockey for years is untrue. Canada won the previous year (while the Finns didn't medal), and also came 2nd the year before that (while again the Finns didn't medal). Also, your point about elite players not wanting to play in the IIHF proves that it isn't a tournament worth mentioning. You might as well suggest that Germany is the second best team because they finished second to the Russians in the Olympics. Sorry, I do respect Finnish hockey, but the suggestion that the Finns are winning all the championships is false and quite honestly its delusional to think that Finnish hockey is the best in the world.
@@rivahkillah Finland was shitty in those years they are like ages ago. And anyway it would be fair for Finland and Sweden to go against Quebec population wise. Finland and Sweden would steamroll Quebec. The truth is Finland and Sweden are the best nations in hockey you must check the population. SInce Canada has 7x population than Finland they should be 7x better and they certainly arent. Right now their best on best in paper is barely better not even 2x better. This may be painly to admit for you but Canada right now isnt the 1& in hockey in the world. They maybe were in past but not now if you bring some history results I dont care since Finland for instance was lot more bad and the hockey has just risen from slumber in there.
This guy knows his stuff. The Leafs are in my opinion stupid for going after these European players. Playoff time you need Warriors that aren't afraid to go on the corners and get the puck, that's no European player ever. Unrelated side note I remember the FIFA World Cup in the NHL playoffs are on at same time and I'm watching these fairies danced around on the soccer field and they get touched it looks like they got shot and then I'm watching these hockey players going to the corner like goddamn Warriors. I don't understand how anybody can watch soccer I'd rather watch paint f****** dry

@True North Strong and Free lol. Google fascism. There is everything wrong with fascism since its predicated on bullying and harming political opponents and vulberable members of society. @BosoxnationI972 How about educating yourself before falsely calling others names. I was an English major before going into business management for many years, so I know very well what "sounds off" means. Maybe you need a lesson. The official meaning for your information is to: "express one's opinions in a loud, vigorous or forceful manner." As I originally stated. It was click bate because the title totally misrepresented what was actually in the article. "Muppet" Ha! Grow the hell up!
BosoxnationI972, your Message is so childish that I now assume that you are either just a young teenager or a grade schooler, so I won’t even bother answering anymore, other than to say that yes, calling someone a “muppet” is indeed name calling. Very childish; but none-the-less name calling. Please go to your grade or high school and hopefully get educated on the meanings of simple words.
Yes well done, you have figured out that media and many others exaggerate the title for views. He did talk about Marner but i guess he didnt "sound off" according to your official definition. However , I do agree with your stance on name calling (even if i do find the term "muppet" quite comical, i really dont think there is a place for calling someone a name over your comment. Far to much name calling and negativity online, far to many key board warriors.
That is a pretty damning statistic for the Leafs about all those players on the Blues who played in the GTA. Thats some seriously poor decision making/management.
we as Canadians should be ashamed Paul Henderson is not in the hall of fame and whom ever is on the board of directors should all be ashamed as-well maybe they do something when he dies "!!!!!!!!!!!
@@waynejohanson1083 You can. There is no such thing as the "National Hockey League" Hall of Fame. It is the Hockey Hall of Fame (formerly, the International Hockey Hall of Fame). It is meant to reward contributions to the sport of hockey. If a goal is iconic enough, that people feel it has contributed to the sport, then induction is perfectly reasonable.
Actually he is wrong quite often but we love him anyways, he says what he wants and says what he believes and understands the game better then most other hockey TV personalities imo
Can't wait for the day this clown is done with hockey. 3 worst things with the NHL.. (in no particular order) 1. Don Cherry 2. Gary Bettman 3. .... See 1 & 2 above.
@@deliman7203 Right, you must be a young person to think as you do. The players today are so bad at putting the puck in the net, it is bothersome to watch. Sure, they can skate well, stick handle well too, but they are terrible finishers. McDavid is one of the worst finishers of all the 'Greats' in hockey history. He supposedly has so much talent, yet he cant score more than 40 goals. Paul Kariya, if he played in today's NHL would crush McDavid in the scoring race.
Obviously he can be arrogant and ignorant about societal issues, etc. But hes deserved the right to quit when he wants... his views relating to hockey and teadition are still pertinent today.
