Mogilny was the first non-North American to lead the league in goals scored (along with Teemu Selänne from Finland), the first Russian and non-North American to be an NHL captain

When talking hall of fame a lot of the time I like to use the argument, "can you tell the history of the game without this player" if yes, then no hall of fame. For example, Alexander Mogilny, you can't tell the history of the game without him because he paved the way for Russians to come over.

Chris Osgood should be in the HOF. It wasn't simply the teams he played with. One could say the same about Grant Fuhr. Curtis Joseph played on really stacked Red Wings teams yet didn't win. You still have to make the stops. Osgood was the model of consistency. He won in 2 eras in Detroit. As a 25 year old, then as a 35 year old. He breached marks not many goalies have. 401 wins, 3 Stanley Cups (2 as starter and one game away from back to back Cups). 2X All Star, 2X Jennings trophy winner, finished in top 10 of Vezina Trophy 3 times, topped 30 victories 6 times over 18 seasons and recorded 50 shutouts with a 2.49 GA and a .905 save percentage. Ozzy played on a lot of crappy Wings teams too, as well as Islanders and Blues with little drop in stats. He's one of only 6 goalies to score a goal directly in the opponent's net (at the time only the 2nd). Last goalie to wear a player's helmet/cage combo mask. Post season alone he helped the Islanders break a 7 year playoff drought and overall has 74 post season victories, a .916 save percentage, 2.09 goals-against average and 15 shutouts. In 2008 he won 9 games in a row to secure another Stanley Cup. Back to back shutouts in the first 2 games of the finals and finished with a 14-4 record with 1.55 GAA and a Cup. Osgood is - 10th All Time in wins by an NHL goaltender 8th in all time playoff wins 4th in all time playoff shutouts 4th all time NHL leader in win percentage 10th goaltender in NHL history to reach 400 wins 3 x Stanley Cup champion (2 as starter) 3 x All Star selection (played 2, one as starter) Led NHL in wins 1996 Led NHL in GAA in 2008 (regular season 2.09 & playoffs 1.55) 744 NHL games played 129 NHL playoff games played 15 NHL playoff shutouts 110 NHL postseason games played with Red Wings (team record for goalies) 16 career NHL points, 4 in playoffs 67 NHL playoff wins for Detroit 14,145 shots against with Red Wings regular season 12,801 saves regular season with Red Wings

Great stats list, even though I'm 2 years late. Lol. I agree. Osgood deserves to be in the Hall. As a Pens fan i watched him play awesome in his mid/late 30's against us in 08 and 09. His regular season play those years was subpar, but he stepped it up massively in those 2 playoffs. That used to be called a money goalie. Lol. Ozzie isn't Roy or Hasek, but no one is. He absolutely belongs. I also think Cujo and Vernon, belong, but Ozzie needs in first. Edit: lol. His regular season in 07-08 wasn't subpar at all like i remembered, but he still stepped it up even more in those playoffs. 1.55 gaa, and a 930 sv% Insane numbers for sure.

Great subject and your analysis is spot on, (Mogilny--yep), Alfredsson, Turgeon, Roenick, yep, yep, yep... Doug Wilson too. Goalies ARE tough to pick. This is why I listen to you, even though you are boring. Jk. You know the white board is for YOU, not your listeners, most of us can't read from our phone screens. Take the next step, get some video editing. Weekly talk show too.
@jahmanoog461
@jahmanoog461 3 года назад
This topic will always have interest. Magilny is an eventual, Turgeon is typical--what do you want out of the guy? Top fifty in scoring. I remember watching him play, a consistent force on the ice, disruptive on defense and dangerous on O, as his numbers show, numbers recorded playing NHL hockey. Not nice? He was there to win, not to be nice, he wasn't a dirty player. . The NHL should honor his warrior spirit that is part of every hockey player. Osgood has good case too. Goalies are SO important, and get such little respect. Yeah, look at the team in front of him, the team that needed consistently solid, and at times spectacularly timely saves, to win those games, keep them in a game. All those forgotten saves. You the voice of hockey fans everywhere.

Yeah, cause dont kid yourselves, there are guys in the hall who weren't crystal clear by a long shot. Belfour is just one example that Shannon mentioned. I remember when as a Florida player, he got violent with police officers whili super drunk, then offered them a bribe, some craziness. Either that or it was all a fake story, but I don't think so. And stuff that guys in 50s, 60s, 70s did, yeah, right, super clean. And Fleury doesn't get in because of how open he has been about the abuse and addictions he went through?

At some point I suspect Doug Wilson will get in, possibly as a GM (particularly if the Sharks can get over the hump). Look at his resume: GM since the 03-04 (2nd longest tenure) season, team made the playoffs 14 of 15 seasons since he took over, despite only having 4 top-10 overall picks in the 16 drafts he's been GM for (#6, #8, #9x2). For much of that time the team was a contender, not just a team that barely eked out a playoff spot. He's pulled off some fantastic trades and managed to bring a team that's "window was closing" around 2012 and have them reach the final in 2016 and a strong contender in 2019. I would say that he likely only gets in if the Sharks get a cup, but what he's done with the franchise has been pretty amazing.

Great video. You covered just about every player that comes to mind when talking about snubs, but I believe Sergei Zubov is another! He may not have won a Norris bury I don't care. 2 cups with 2 different teams. The 94 Rangers he was they're reg season leading scorer and very valuable in their cup run. He was an amazingly smooth defenseman, great skater, solid two way player, fantastic pp player and passer. A very consistently great defenseman. When my Pens traded him to Dallas for half washed up Hatcher, I was the only guy in Pittsburgh that thought the trade was terrible. He clashed as a pp quarterback with Lemieux and "didn't shoot enough" so he was run out of town. BIG mistake. After a year we traded Hatcher for something named Peter Popovic. Ffs

im a person who takes the triple gold club very serious. i think that enough should almost be HOF worthy. just amazing though. as time goes on more great players will be elgerible. do you think they ever add more than 4 players a year?

Dave Taylor and Mike Vernon deserve to be in the HOF.

I think Detroit might not win in 96/97 without Vernon. He definitely redeemed himself loosing 4 straight to New Jersey

It's the hockey HOF, not the human HOF. Guys like Fleury, Roenick, and yes, even Damphousse belong.

i always hate the idea of not winning titles because its a team thing, this is a carry over of how the nba marketed MJ and now every team is adopting this false narrative, because you need a team to win a title not a single player. find it very frustrating that its keeping players from multiple sports out of the hall over something they can not control. then those same people will bash them for going to a good team to win or being lucky being on a good team.....so horrible

Tom Barrasso was definitely not playing for the Penguins in 1984, he got traded to them not all that long before the cup runs.
@dalamian
@dalamian 6 лет назад
There are a lot of goalies who are probably worthy of being in the Hall but the fact that a lot of them never won cups is a huge reason why. I'm a huge hextall fan hes one of the reasons I picked up a goalie stick as a kid. And as much as he deserves to be in there for really revolutionizing the position he wont get in because he never won a cup. Barrasso will probably get in at some point I think he was one of, if not the first, goalie to break into the NHL at 18-19 years old

Ron Hextall? Talk about pioneers, the guy was only the first goalie to score a goal and also won the conn smythe on a losing team and the vezina as a rookie

I guess a question to be asked is, do we have a lower bar for non Canadian players? Should the best of the Americans, Swedes, ect be in even if the wins, points, or awards aren't all there?

not sure in passing comment in this video did you mention Martin Brodeur. We all know he's HHOF kryptonite between the pipes. Harks back to Draft breakdown video you put up projecting future netminders await drafting will be 8ft tall. You covered most areas in this video, don't blacklist your list for getting into a game Prudential Ctr NJ lol

Barrasso and Turgon to me stand out on that list. They should be there for sure. Alfredsson is going to be in for sure it's just a matter of time really and him being a late round pick and playing in Ottawa might be the downfall really.

I know this vid is mainly about non-goalies....but I hate the Pens, but Barrasso should be in. . Calder . 1 Vezina . three (3) times 2nd place Vezina . one (1) 3rd place Vezina . one (1) time 7th place Vezina . one (1) 9th place Vezina . three (3) times top 10 Hart trophy votes (plus an 10th place finish) I know "only" one Vezina, but the amount of top-5 and top-10 votes has to count for something

Fleury deserves it. The man dealt with the trauma of being a biracial post colonial metis by product and then was sexually abused by Graham James as a junior player. Despite all that makes the NHL and excels for years. Battles demons wins gold. Goes through hell and back again and is now fighting the good fight. They need to look at all he has done i ln his life now.

Hockey should have a Hall of Grit. Because not every great hockey player or play is a stat compiler. It's not baseballl, and football generally does get around to the guys who are great but not in stat terms.

It's a real problem that Alexander Mogilny is not in the Hall of Fame. One of the most purely talented players of his era as well as one of the most important. That's the inductee I'd put in first among all the people you mentioned.
@arlichar11
@arlichar11 6 лет назад
the sad part of hall of fames , is those who decide who gets in... it shuld never be about anything other than performance or if did something important ! personality, and or legal issues should not be a factor.... ! just for instance lidstrom super nice guy, and all time great, but if he happen be a jerk, he would still be great player, does not effect his play any ...

Time to get Theoren Fleury in. He's got the numbers, awards and all-star games. Also the way he played as a smaller forward when there was more clutching and grabbing. Yes he had off ice issues but the story has been out on the likely causes from being sexually abused in his junior career. Glen Anderson had off ice issues and he's in, time for Theoren Fleury to get his due plus retire his number with the Calgary Flames.

Wait, you can totally understand if Theo's substance abuse issues keep him out of the Hall of Fame? Isn't it more impressive that he was as good as he was while battling those issues? You sound like you are from 100 years ago with that attitude.
@TheHockeyGuy
@TheHockeyGuy 6 лет назад
No, you miss my point. I can understand that his issues at that time keep him out. Grant Fuhr had a well known drug addiction. Many of the 80s Oilers who got in the hall did. Fleury's personality combined with those issues are, I believe, the things keeping him out of the hall. For the record, his play wasn't fantastic when those demons really took over. Again, also keep in mind, I believe he should be in the hall.
@davideats9255

Thanks for the reply, I still don't quite get your point. The guys they let in in the last 10 years, it seems like if you were an All-Star and ever won a cup, you're in! My favourite player ever was Cam Neely and he's in without a cup. At the end of the day Fleury is a point a game player who won a cup, fan favourite, All-Star. Whatever happened off the ice has nothing to do with it in this case.
