Here are two of the smartest chessboards money can buy. The Chessnut Air Plus and Chessnut EVO both let you play on Chess.com and LiChess. The Evo has a 12.3” Android tablet attached. The Chessnut Air+ is a fully wooden smart chessboard that works with your tablet to smartphone. You can use it with 3rd party apps such as WhitePawn and Chess for Android.
In this video, I put Chessnut Air+’s AI against Chessnut EVO’s Leela Chess Zero.

Besides the lights and built-in screen, what the Evo offer that the Air doesn’t? I actually prefer to have an external screen rather than built-in.

Well, you can train AI engines, you can training on it without a tablet. LED-based feedback on your moves, on-board analysis. The built-in tablet is just more convenient if you ask me. But Chessnut Air is the perfect board considering its much lower price.

These are not robots. For self moving, you should get Square Off or older robots: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UPE4mjypfRI.html

Im gonna get the Evo soon but boy do I hate the aesthetics of it. The pieces are so ugly and cheap looking. I dont get why they did that whole motif on the Evo. Really feeling like version 2 is gonna look way more appealing and not so corny and cheap.

I think the price probably came into it. It is already expensive. Definitely worth a shot though. Robotic chessboards are fun but very gimmicky. This has much more potential for training and analysis

Is it more satisfying to play on Evo or on Centaur? Did you buy the Mephisto Phoenix btw? How is that one? Cheers Pls keep the great videos coming.

I didn't buy the Phoenix. I think it is overpriced. If they send me one, I will review it but I am not paying $1000+ for that. I am sure it is great but I have the DGT Pi and that works just fine.

@@Gadgetify Thanks! Yes, the Phoenix has to come down in (street) price, then it might be worth a shot. What would you reckon was an ok price for it? 800$?
@Gadgetify

@@followyourpassion8378 I honestly wouldn't pay anything about $500. Seems way overpriced for what you get. Don't get me wrong. It's an amazing product but I am not sure who the target audience is with that price

@@Gadgetify yeah, the chess classics module (The King & ChessGenius) is basically 1000$ less than the Phoenix. I think, they have used a customer value analysis for the price positioning of the Phoenix. Probably Millennium came up with a high value (chargeable) for the Retro Emulations. Maybe like 20$ for each emulation (MMI, Vancouver, Roma,...). The similar Retro package for DGT Revelation II also cost around 600$. Target audience: chess computer collectors. Calculation might look like: rrp = 460$ (23x20$ Retro emus) + 480$ hardware (double chess classics, because big screen, more powerful CPU...) + 100$ connectivity function (likeChessLink) + 160$ licences for new engines (4x40$, Shredder...) = 1200$

@@followyourpassion8378 Makes sense. I got my Chess Genius Exclusive for $300 open box. I thought that was a fair price. For DGT Pi + Rosewood DGT Board, I paid $550. The listing price was $1200. Maybe that's the price that works for them. Maybe a school can afford to buy multiple units. I am too broke for that. haha. I already spent a fortune buying over 150 chess boards.
