What I haven't seen in the comments, or maybe I missed it, is how Dusk was trying to get an "in" with those she might have deemed close to Fearne. She started with Laudna, then picked up on Orym's strength as a fighter and tried to woo him. She drove a wedge between Laudna and Imogen and played off on it. Then she wanted to get close to Fearne when the other two characters kind of turned her down. I think Erica was playing it to disarm as many characters as possible, but Chetney is suspicious of everyone (including Dorian back in the day). Also when she did lay on hands with Laudna, she gave her 1 hit point. She could have given her more but she gave her just enough to get her up and even a single punch would have put her back down if she needed to.

The admittedly cynical side of me has me somewhat thinking there was a bit of "I want my guest character to have slept with one of the main cast's" going on, too. Since it seems like that's been kind of a trend (the sleeping with part, not necessarily the OOC part). May just be that I wasn't a huge fan of the player in general, though.
@hemmydall
@hemmydall Год назад
@@jordanf00 the player or the character? Cause Erika is a damn good player imo. Who she's playing as comes across a bit annoying, but that's acting for you. Similar to many people not liking Marisha during CR 1, only to realize it was Keyleth they didn't like when she played Beau in CR 2.
@SecrethLab

@jordanf00
@jordanf00 Год назад
@@hemmydall Probably a mix of both. Erika gave me Orion vibes. I wasn't a huge fan of how loud and screechy they were OOCly, nor how they were so close several times to slipping a nip (someone in chat said they were wearing pasties iirc, which enough of a slip to be like "wtf?" IMO), or how they jumped up onto the table in booty shorts and were crouching and screech-laughing like a gremlin. And I wasn't a fan of how Dusk was constantly interrupting everyone and making the planning of the race just miserable, or how they tried to sleep with several of the PCs, and intentionally made the Laudna and Imogen drama that much more angsty. I get that THOSE bits were IC probably, but "it's what my character would do" is classically not a valid excuse to make other players uncomfortable. Of course, I'm not one of said players, and I can't speak on their behalf, so maybe they didn't mind it at all. But as a viewer, I did not enjoy watching it at all (and of course "no one cares" is a perfectly valid and probably accurate response to that). Just opinions, you know? And as for Marisha, I think that a lot of personal growth happened between Keyleth's debut and Beau's. I think that all of the cast has gone through alot of personal growth - D&D can tend to do that to people.

i think a key part that makes this work is we've seen chetney be suspicious and willing to assume there's ill intent prior to confirming anything. remember when he just assumed dorian was untrustworthy from the start, and only started re-examining it when he asked some NPC (i forget which) what their read on dorian was, and chetney was genuinely surprised that it was totally different from his? this feels like the same thing. chetney is willing to follow such suspicions because he's ALSO willing to let them go. this differentiates him from characters like imogen, who are very restrained in general, but also stubborn once they've decided to believe something--as demonstrated by imogen feeling betrayed by laudna, not from the breaking of the gnarlrock, but from the completely coincidental friendliness laudna was showing dusk. great representation of the different human approaches to others

He's *been* right on top of the situation with Fearne's stories about her parents not adding up, and Dusk's way of needling at people's weak spots is the kind of thing that's only subtle until you actually entertain the possibility that they're doing that on purpose. (Chet may not have IC witnessed every single conversation we've seen played out, but it's not like *we've* seen every single moment since Dusk linked up with the group.) It's not actually a huge leap for someone who's seen a fair amount of shady behavior before, and Chetney *in particular* basically has nothing to lose by going with it -- if he's wrong, ha-ha, that's our cranky werewolf grandpa all right, remember what a hard time he gave Dorian? (As opposed to, say, Imogen, who is in ALL her feelings about this and could be thoroughly destroyed on an emotional level with one carefully-timed "🥺 it's fine, I guess I knew you weren't totally okay after all with me asking Laudna out. 🥺")

Question: Can a paladin tap into their class features or spells if they have amnesia? Their power comes from their conviction to their cause, which they wouldn't remember, so should they have powers?
@Eadwulf_Skald
@Eadwulf_Skald Год назад
You can explain anything away with amnesia. In this case you could go with either "fake memory loss" or "memory loss but the new conviction/mission taps into old forgotten memories" or something else even. It's absolutely valid to limit a player in their class levels if they so choose but there is no hard rule. (Even if there was in RAW I would still ignore it because the PHB is a guide not a strict set of rules.)
@trise2033
@trise2033 Год назад
Can they? yes. Their conviction/devotion comes from within themself (and blessings of the Gods), which are not necessarily tied to their personal memories. (Forgetting an experience doesn't erase it from history; it still happened.) Could they not? also yes. It's just as viable to have an amnesiatic Paladin not have access to their full kit, depending on the story the player wants to tell. For example: Say the character has forgotten they used to be a much more powerful Paladin. As they play and level up, they slowly relearn the skills and abilities they don't remember having.
@Eadwulf_Skald
@Eadwulf_Skald Год назад
@@trise2033 Exactly right! Amnesia is a wonderful storytelling device for a DM to plag with. It's a gift similar to an open backstory. As they levelled they gained back more and more of the dragon skills. So much fun.)

As a new Critter (Campaign 3 is my first lol I've just seen highlights and stuff of the first 2) how far in advance does the team film these? Since I know they're not live. I've seen people talking about Travis Metagaming and personally I highly doubt he would, these guys have been playing for so long that 1: I just don't think they'd do it anyways and 2: someone would have pointed it out at the table. But like, when Erica was at the table alone surely some fans would've been on twitter after it or something going "Omg guys don't trust Dusk she's evil!" to the rest of the crew. So how does the cast manage to avoid spoilers like that? I'm so curious if anyone can answer it
@VegetaLF7
@VegetaLF7 Год назад
I forget the exact timeframe but I believe it's somewhere between 2-4 weeks in advance. Best indication of how far is whenever the cast makes some hairstyle change (coloring, haircut, etc) that pops up in their social media accounts and then seeing how long it takes for that change to appear in the show. I believe it's about a month or so because Sam shaved and got a haircut earlier in the year and it took about that long for the change to reflect on Critical Role. By the time we started figuring out the mysteries of Dusk, Travis likely knew already.

Something about Dusk always rubbed me the wrong way, once she started randomly hitting on different characters I knew I didn't liked her. I think Orym got a weird vibe from her before she started hitting on him too, he asked her about her fighting style and such and I don't think it was out of "personal interest", we sometimes overlook the fact that Orym was a personal guard before he went on his current mission, being inquisitive is part of his profession.

Im not entirely convinced the rest of the group didn't have any idea. Matt wanting everyone to leave the room to talk to Dusk was a sort've neutral (who knows? but it could be anything) noteworthy event.. and then idiots on RU-vid posted videos with DUSK IS EVIL! in the title. So any one of them could've seen anything like that, anywhere. But they can't meta game so they skillfully ignore it. First red flag here for me was that everyone was seemingly being extra nice to Dusk right at the end here as if they weren't sure but wanted to set her up. "Omg thank you for saving her. Omg you're like my sister. You're the best" etc etc. Seemed a tad more on the nose than usual. And then Imogen seemingly randomly asking to read her mind with a serious face on, and then when Matt says there is a block, and no one seems to react with surprise. And then Travis just went real direct with it. Still fun either way. I'm just not convinced the rest of them didn't know something was up.

"Eat the rich" implies getting rid of billionaires, the kind of people who could fund the entirety of TLoVM singlehandedly and still have enough money to end world hunger 12 times over. They asked for I believe 125,000 to make something for their fans so that they could all continue eating and living. The fans on the other hand, said "No, we want MORE." They didn't ask for that much money, just like they don't ask for Donations on Twitch. They might ask for your Amazon Prime free subscription, because that helps keep everything covered because can you imagine the cost to run a show of this scale? Without Geek and Sundry footing the bill, it comes out of pocket. These guys aren't "the rich", and probably never will be. They might be famous and have fans willing to pay for a project this massive, but they don't get to take home anywhere near that amount of money.

Most Americans don't understand how wealthy they are compared to the rest of the world. "After adjusting for cost-of-living differences, a typical American still earns an income that is 10 times the income received by the typical person in the world.", the Washington Post. So them complaining about the wealthiest of the wealthiest just comes across as dumb, when they are part of the wealthiest. And if that precedent is set and we eat the wealthiest, at what point do they or you become the wealthiest and get eaten?

I think its just Travis connecting the dots. Firstly Dusk claims to not even know who they themselves are, whether they are an op or not is always in the air. Secondly they seem to be extremely interested in Fearnes parents and even has a picture of them, and the best excuse is that they want to find them because they like them, while they seem to have no motivation regarding their own past or regaining memories. Thirdly, while Dusk has stayed with the group they constantly prod for information and put up a very bumbling act of personality, while they have also shown great swordmanship and magical abilities and also deceptive interrogation, it doesnt match up that well. To sum up, a overreacting elf, who claims to have no memories are looking for fearnes parents because they like em, while also being extremely skilled in both sword and magic. Erika also never explained their magic, Travis knew they were a warlock i assume, but they never talked of their patron, which is SUS too.
