This is the same guy who tried intimidating a friggen god to get his lock powers back, matt is reacting like he would of in that moment, if he wasnt a dm
@@damian_bubble6287 As it turned out, that might not have been the worst thing ever. I am pretty sure he didn't ever pull anything good out of there for himself.
I love how Matt immediately recognized the sound of a player who is about to do some surprising evil shit, that is the sign of an experienced DM right there.
One of my favorite lines from this one shot and perhaps all of critical role was “Your a fool Klaus.... we can’t compete with amazon!” Travis was on fire throughout all of the one shot
@@MrMossMan7272 Travis had that as his best line. That he listed the times he couldn't keep up with what Santa wanted showed more why he did more Munchkin than elf.
"He told me to make Voltron out of wood; no one wanted it! He told me to make a Gameboy; I can't do circuits!! He told me to make the little trolls, but their hair didn't move!!! So now, I take my WOODEN CHISEL and I STAB HIM IN THE CHEST!!!!"- Chutney: Leader of the great Elf Insurrection, 2018
@@backonlazer791 Yup. That or "We could be rich. We could end the suffering of the elves. We could be property owners! Think of the magic! THINK OF THE MAGIC! "
Honestly though the best part of his delivery is that he asked if there were still restraints on Santa, because everyone expected him to stab him right up to that moment, and then everyone breathed the sigh of relief like "oh he's just going to cut the restraints," but that diversion was a fake out and then hE DID STAB HIM and everyone's expectations were subverted TWICE and that's how it's done!! Travis Willingham master of timing.
To be fair, Chutney asked them several times during the episode if they shouldn't just take over and claim christmas for themselves - He even picked up the sack of gifts and said "It's a new world-order motherfucker!"
@@GodBear97 Travis really was telegraphing his intentions all night. I guess the rest of the table (except Matt and Taliesin) thought he was just bluffing.
He was kind of setting it up throughout the whole game. Every time things started looking bad he would just say something along the lines of "It could be somebody else turn to carry the mantle of Santa."
Grog’s one shot was peak dm’ing ‘I rolled a 35, grog what do I see?’ “Nothing” ‘I rolled a 15, grog what do I see?’ “You see abunchhhh of trinkets and dis an dat” The fact he called it ‘bunyuns and flagons’ got me good as well as his dm’ing ‘I roll to hit’ *throws dice, before dice can even touch the table…* ‘you hit the baby’ lmao
Laura would have joined Travis in the shtshow and gang up on Santa. You gotta marry a woman who can support you and if need be hide the body, otherwise marriage doesn't make any sense.
Liam: "So Julie, what class would you like to play?" Julie: "I want to be a cleric!" Liam: "Since this is going to be a Christmassy episode, would you like your patron to be Santa Claus?" Julie: "That sounds so amazing! He'll be like..." Liam: "He's like your patron, the god you worship as a cleric, and you derive all your clerical powers of healing etc., from Santa." Julie: "So awesome! This'll be so festive!" Liam: "Let's make a great Christmas episode!"
@@OneBiasedOpinion lies! It is Mercer! Mercer is the man who pulls the strings! watch the first seconds. watch him mouth "you" and say "crossroads" Mercer, is the Emperor
I just imagine one day, Travis is sitting at home reading the paper, then a little kid comes up and says: Kid: Daddy? Travis: Yes honey? Kid: Did you really stab Santa? Travis: *crumbles up the paper* Laura laughs from the other room
Then he tells Ronin, in Chutney's voice "He told me to make Voltron out of wood...." Ronin: "What's a Voltron?" Laura laughs harder from the other room
Travis played that beautifully, he made it super obvious he intended to stab Santa, but when he asked about restraints everyone except Ashley totally thought he was just playing it up before cutting Santa free. This is a master piece and I hope it lives on forever.
Everything about this is amazing. Talesin's Laughter. Matt's eyes going wide as he knows what is about to happen. The guest (I forget her name) being aggressively disappointed in him. The other three trying to keep their composure but none of them succeeding. And the look on Travis's face that reassures you that he has no regrets.
This is the conversation between The Guest(G) and Marisha(M) at 2:34 G asks " Can you kill other players in this game" M replies "Yes we might have too but yes in this game you can." I just found it fun that she thought about killing Chutney as soon as the deed was done.
I don't know how long she would've been, I imagine seeing the reaction she would've been laughing just seeing all of them doing it. it is infectious. :)
@@ihavekalashnikovyoudomath9275 It's so rare for Matt to be able to break character and just laugh when something hilarious happens. As a DM, he is always involved in the scene when players other than the subject get to react freely without worrying about their characters
@@ihavekalashnikovyoudomath9275 As a fellow DM I saw that coming and I knew this was going to be a "Holy Shit" moment. Travis never disappoints when he decides to go all "fuck it let's see what happens"
even in season one they tended to forget about sneak damage getting doubled, so Sam could of rolled a nat 20 with Nott and just forgot a week or two afterwards
Here because I typed "Travis Willingham" into my search bar and the first thing that came up was "Travis Willingham Kills Santa" and I was like "this oughta be good"
Travis inhabits his characters completely, all his friends know this and on some level they all see what's coming. Marisha is involved in a side conversation with the guest, but immediately as Travis begins talking she knows something is going down but isn't completely sure what. Ashley is thinking this can't possibly be going where it seems to be going. Sam's ever-widening grinning maw as he becomes more and more certain, struggling in vain to hide his mouth behind his fist. Matt and Taliesin know *exactly* what's happening from the moment he asks the question.
As amazing as this is, it didn't break the cast as much as the Trinket scene from the Grog oneshot. They were just gone with Tashas hideous laughter at that point.
@@destinydreams7689 I have rewatched that oneshot SO MANY TIMES. I think the all-time cast breaker may still be Laura's infamous bath-based shenanigans, though. But it's almost too close to call.
Sam Is consistent and hilarious, but I genuinely believe that when Travis lets loose and is inspired, he's the better comedian and possibly the best player at the table, with the exception of Laura, because nobody can beat her cupcake moment
That thumbnail is so perfect: Travis looking so pleased with himself Everyone looking super surprised and shocked And Taliesin and Ashley looking like "That's my boy"
"He told me to make Voltron out of wood; no one wanted it He told me to make a Gameboy; I can't do circuits He told me to make the little trolls, but their hair didn't move" Jesuschrist this is sad...
@@sevencats4964 yes he did and he did double it but he also had to ask there i love critroll and i know it isnt combat focused but i just wish they would learn the basics by god
I just realized, "Chutney", and "Chetney", are remarkably similar, as well as, gnomes are quite similar to Santa's elves in size and look, and Chutney makes toys, and Chetney is a carpenter
I should have expected this when Chutney rolled that Nat 20 to list Santa's sack of toys. The power was always going to go to his head. Bless Travis for following through with the character's machinations!
