With the nose on that M4? Yeah, but no. It doesn't matter how good a car it is, I can't get past the nose on that M4. I have to admit, however, that I really don't like the square steering wheel on the Corvette.
C8. Not even close. I came out of a fully loaded 340i into the C8, and the cars are not even in the same league. My BMW was nice and was fast, but it drives like a front engine/transmission sport sedan, not like a mid engine sports car. The C8 handling and driving feel are just awesome - I drove it on Tail of the Dragon, what a phenomenal experience.
Drove these cars back to back at the track, I agree 100% Corvette is easier to go fast, and more composed at speed. M4 was more lively and required way more input. I prefer the vette, because I can cruise with the top off and it rides amazing.
@@CarlosLago Thank you! Everyone needs to experience a terribly overpowered little truck at some point in their life! Preferably after one has got their affairs in order, last will and testament, etc. 😳 😂
Agree to disagree. I’ve seen a ton of them around here and they’re just so hideous to me. Eager to see how they evolve the styling in later generations.
Since no one is mentioning this, or might not have the knowledge: the msrp is NOT actual price for the Corvette. In the real world, the C8 Corvette is $110k+ plus car because of dealer mark-up. While the M4 is selling for ACTUAL msrp price. You can easily buy the M4 Competition for $82-86K....If you don't believe me, go to a Chevy dealer and try to buy the C8 and look at the ACTUAL out the door price. Please people learn real world prices and then make comments. And Edmunds, you guys should mention these things, you guys are suppose to be "professionals" in this field. Highly disappointed in Edmunds....smh.
How is the m4 slower in acceleration when it traps 3 mph higher then the Corvette. The 0-60 times are kinda pointless. That m4 is definitely making more then the advertised 500. H.p
That's what I was thinking..Is he saying that just based on 0-60? That's probably a traction thing, vette having engine over rear tires. The M4 probably feels faster because it is..plus the 503hp rating is probably less than it's actually making. Probably more like 550hp
To each their own. I own the 2021 M4 Competition and a 2021 X4M Competition. Before the purchase I tracked my friends 2021 Z51 C8 at the track in Litchfield. I found the C8 basic and lacked the true sports car feel. Yes the backend is more stable than the M4, it wasn’t exciting. Tip* The more you practice cornering on the M4, the better you feel with steering. I took me time. Now I consistently beat my buddies C8 in lap times. Personally I prefer the exotic feel of M series cars.
@@naseralshareef3026 oh yeah I'm familiar with BMW's underrating of power figures. I work for BMW manufacturing and lease a lot of the cars. All have felt faster than factory rating and most models Dyno at the wheels the factory claim at the crank or close. The M340 like I'm leasing now Dyno 380 at wheels or did..BMW sent out over the air updates that lowered the power to rated crank power..I don't know why, too spicy considering the M3 was coming?🤷🏾♂️
The Corvette is a sports car, like a Porsche for less money. And the M4 is a fast coupe based on a 4 door sedan. It will never come close to a Corvette C8 around a track.
Toy car vs real car. You know which one is which. The toy car looks like a Honda btw. Would've been interesting to see the times for a full track run though. This stupid obsession with "from straight line" is so overrated.
Truck-derived pushrod V8 in Corvette "feels smoother" than BMW's inline-six and Corvette is also "a little more comfortable on the road". Am I in the correct timeline ?
CONCLUSION: the corvette it's the better car. also people forget that the corvette has dual clutch transmission something which the M4 doesn't have., those dual-clutch are more reliable, smoother and save more gas. the funny thing it's that the corvette cost $20,000 less or even less., I don't what BMW it's smoking lol.
@@redgt3244 man you need to read more. GM doesn’t make the c8 dual clutch, TREMEC does and they have a high reputation for reliability way batter than any German transmission company.
@@christhedoc8689 I do agree with your assessment about Tremec's DCT, to an extent. It is not smoother or more fuel efficient than the ZF8HP. And we do not know as of yet, if it's more reliable, considering the ZF has been out much longer. That said, Tremec does tend to have a good reputation but mainly for its manual transmissions.
@@creatineenjoyer7345 BMW's were cool cars in the past, not so far away. Today these are cars that aren't worth what they cost, for much less you have a Vette C8 that delivers much more, besides of course, being prettier than this ugly BMW with beaver teeth. I miss the E43 that was a car ahead of its time, a work of engineering art! BMW died after that.
People missing out man, BMW knew what they were doing it’s a sleeper. Everyone is complaining like little kids about the front grill and can’t accept change but once someone experiments on the S58 and cracks the code that thing will be a force to deal with.
Typically Bmw. The m5/6 instead of 560hp made 620-640hp on dyno. Some may think wow i paid for more. But in reality that means that the performance numbers become much less impressive.
After 10 seconds of watching: I don´t want the BMW because it´s super ugly grill. It doesn´t matter if the rival is a Corvette or a Mustang or a VW Jetta.
Nice comparison considering the BMW is making close to 600hp. We all know the numbers are way under reported. There's no mystery why the BMW is so fast.
Jesus, that Corvette bludgeoned and beat that M4 down in virtually every possible way. Cost, Performance, Driving Experience. I say this as a current E46 M3 owner. It's been decades since Corvettes were made in St. Louis, maybe they need to bring a St. Louis plant back online to churn out Vettes along with the Bowling Greene plant.
I own a C8 but if I was looking for a front engine 2 door 4 seater in this price range I'd go with a GT500, Redeye or ZL1... That BMW is ugly as sin and the value will drop like a rock in water.
Lol….BMW maintenance is pure ridiculous. This why you don’t see many old BMWs on the road. BMWs are nice under warranty than, you toss them for the second and third hand market to absorb the crazy maintenance cost. Trust me people, I know from experience. Buy the cheap Chevy and mod away on a budget.
Obviously, a vid to annoy/anger the masses: the c8 is a world-beater at its intended (ie, pre-pandemic) price and the M4comp is a lux germ sports sedan. Both cars are great, but the correct comparisons are c8 v M2comp and CTS-v blackwing v M4comp. If you dont keep the prices close, what's the point?
The M4 is a great looking car, except for the fact they decided to put a Ram 1500 front end on it. Seems like an identity crisis. I'm getting my C8 in about a month after a years wait. Very excited to finally get it!
@Karol Szymon Wiśniewski lol, you don't understand how it works. You give a deposit to a dealer who is willing to sell @MSRP, and then it takes a about a year or more before you can finally get the car, because you are on an allocation waiting list. I placed my deposit August 2020 with the dealer and the car is just now going to be built @ the GM plant this coming week. And no they not even remotely close to being seen as often as Camry's and they are still selling well above MSRP if you want to buy one right now vs. Ordering one.
@Karol Szymon Wiśniewski it was only a $1k deposit, and I'm paying $68k for a 1LT Z51 with Mag Ride. Just looked up prices again, and 2021 1LT's are selling for $95k+, so I can resell it and make $20k after taxes, and you are talking about a complaint over my 1k deposit to secure my allocation? No dealers are selling @ MSRP off the lot. Do a search, all the available C8's are still like $30K above MSRP.
The M4 is faster from a roll, Corvette is faster from a start because it has more of its weight on the back tires, that's why the M4 feels faster on the track.
@@jeffthornock8671 I just rewatched that video, when they both got good launches the Corvette won the drag race and the M4 won the rolling race, exactly what I said.
Man I’m tired of car reviewers going on about the BMW grill. Looks and styling are always subjective so you’re welcomed to your opinion, but please quit ranting on like broken records about the grills. Personally I think the new styling is fresh, modern, and aggressive. I also think the big grills are already making the small grill models look dated. Personally, I think the 330/340 models look more like a Honda Accord than a BMW these days… but that’s just my opinion and I promise not to bore you with my opinion by repeating it fifty more times! 😅. Good content though! Love both those cars!
It is because so many dislike the grill. sort of like how many do not like the back of the C8. if only a few disliked it, then no one would talk about it. so it is a thing.
I still prefer having mid-engine corvette even if it is 20k more in price tag! CRAZY this corvette is cheaper by 20k! Z06 will be even crazier.. thanks Chevy
Please stop ranting about how much faster the M4 feels vs. the Corvette. BMW puts out nearly 500 hp at the wheel, more like 575 crank hp, that’s why it feels MUCH faster than the Vette despite it weighing more. ( a non competition M4 scored 465 rwhp vs 473 crank rating). BMW always underrates their car’s power output.
The BMW has a turbo straight 6, so it has a big fat power curve. The C8 is N/A, so you need to keep the RPMs high to stay in the power band. The LT2 actually has less mid-band torque than the LT1, but makes more torque at high RPMs.
@@LemonySnicket-EUClinear power is way more controllable and consistent on road or track. In the end, the corvette is exotic for an American made car. Picking my up with the z51 and magnetic ride. Can't wait to drive it..
I have a 2022 xDrive on order, the exact same spec as this, except the carbon seats. They are horrible for daily. But same color, same wheels and CCBs for the same cost. The XDrive is $4,100 more, so that makes up for the price of me not getting the carbon seats. $102,880. However, you’re not doing a very good job of explaining the difference in options. The M4 has $8,100 carbon ceramics, and $3,800 optional carbon seats. $2,500 full Merino Leather, and $4,800 carbon exterior package, full 360 cameras and $1,750 for the paint color upgrade. The Corvette, by comparison, is a 2LT with just a Z51 package. Fully optioned C8 without Carbon ceramics, can get over $100k. The $5,000 carbon 5VM exterior package for the C8 isn’t available to order anymore, or it would be more than the M4 fully specd.
@@edwardsison that too. Maybe there’s a 3rd video, coming? The first video was 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Maybe there will be a 3rd video with actual track laps. 🤷🏻♂️
@@g.dubyou6263 maybe, who knows. Btw, when are you projected to receive your AWD? I actually traded in my RWD M4 last week for an AWD model coming in October. Dealership provided me with an X5 loaner. I am at 111 order status with a production number.
People that say the M4 isn’t as capable as the Corvette are dead wrong. Having driven both on track the M4 is more engaging to drive and faster. Driving experience aside the reliability of the Corvettes kills it for me I’ve had non stop issues with my C7 Z06 including 2 torque tube replacements and a new supercharger. My buddy also has had a laundry list of problems with his C8 including countless electrical issues and now it needs a new transmission. It’s also worth mentioning no Corvette can touch BMW build quality specifically fit and finish and material quality.
Having just traded my ‘22 C8 for a new M4 Comp, I concur. I love the C8 and it is overall a great car but the build quality and materials in the M are far superior. And yes, Chevy has not yet perfected the dual clutch. It’s temperamental.
I find it interesting that the Corvette is becoming so good that its handling and power delivery, comfort on the road, and performance on the track, are all less exciting because the car is so well sorted now. it has far less drama now than in previous generations. Kind of reminds me of how the 911 has progressed. It's less exciting because it's so much better. Now everyone will start saying it's become "clinical" and (gasp!) boring. Such is progress...
You clearly have never sat in either. The Vette has gotten significantly better. It's now crappy instead of shitty. Even in this video you can still see how Play Skool it is. I don't mind the Vette's crappy interior though because if it had a quality interior it would be twice the price. I love the new Vette. I was in an M4 Comp this past weekend. The quality of the interior is insane. As it should be at that price point. But I hate turbos.....
@@thefather414 show me a link of ANY car reviewer showing anything other than amazing ratings for the interior of the c8. I'll wait.... I guess you know better than everyone else. I have driven both BTW and I own 1

Who would want a front engine car when you can have a balanced, mid engine platform. The corvette is also way more car for the money. I want the same racing platform as an Indycar, or a Formula 1 car. Nuf said.
If I have money to buy either , I would go with corvette anyday. More reliable and great resale value. BMW loses 40-50% in 3 years. I would say corvette probably loses 10-20% in 3 years. That too 3 years old C7 are selling at the same price as they were bought.
There is a lot of misinformation in this video. The buckets seats and more. My M4 was $88K and change with bucket seats etc. Those vets are going MSRP plus dealer markup which makes them more expensive. Carlos is a fanboy and and his face in the drag race video where the M4 walked the C8 was proof.
@Karol Szymon Wiśniewski A BMW is Drug dealer or a pimp’s car. A badge image, identity politics type. They voted for trump or wear an Antifa or clan mask and terrorize people. The owner is insecure, and will use entirely to much colon. Cannot comprehend it is not how much I paid for the car but what is the car capable of. Maybe you need to drive a Vette? No? Well….best of luck to you.
Compare the trap speeds at the quarter mile mark, M4 is higher. I’d bet in a roll race the M4 is faster in a straight line where traction(or lack thereof) isn’t an issue.

Total cost of ownership is rarely evaluated. Replacing the breaks on the BMW is far more expensive than replacing the breaks on the vett..... For example.
Very in-depth review of these cars and for that reason very telling. Carlos is still one of the best in the business of relating the essence of a vehicle and how that translates to ‘real-world’ driving. The track experience lets him push these cars harder than on public roads and reveals what was each cars’ pros and or cons. Keep up the great work Edmunds!
