Chevrolet has unveiled the latest member of its SS family: the 2008 HHR SS. The four-door vehicle was specifically developed by the GM Performance Division. Bob Lutz & Ed Peper talk about the car in detail.
Got a black SS in December. LOVE IT! I get so many questions, comments and compliments on it. It was very reasonably priced and has great utility, and is fast. I dont care what you ppl say. I OWN one I know.
I own an HHR, and I couldn't love a car more than I love my HHR. I only feel sorry for those that don't see the beauty in the HHR, I can't imagine how anyone could call it ugly. I guess some people are just meant to drive Camrys and blend in with the world around them, while others choose to stand out from the crowd.
I had an 06 Cobalt SS 2.4L (non supercharged) 173 hp auto before the 09 HHR SS. When I learned that the HHR SS was offered with an auto, I had to have one. Granted, it is 235 hp vs 260 hp for the manual, but Chevrolet offers an "LNF UPGRADE" that boost power (with eith transmission) up to 290 hp and 315 ft lbs of torque. The HHR SS is a BLAST to drive. You ALWAYS have enough power, and it won't set you back $350$40k like an EVO or STI. I don't need awd in Central Texas anyway!
I have no idea what people are talking about. I am 6'2'' (and have 4 inches of headroom to spare) and actually consider the visibility from the extra windows to be BETTER than most cars, as all the glass means no blind spots. But, everyone will have their opinion. Yes, the build quality isn't the greatest and will require maintenance down the road, but after 21000 miles I can't find any complaints about the car. Great gas mileage and more than enough power for a DD.
I have a HHR SS Auto and tried it out last fall . I got it to 134 MPH and then when I got off the gas it changed gear so 155 MPH should not be a problem. It was just cruising along with no shimmy not like my 1972 Duster 340 used to do at that speed. I like it a lot 23 MPG around town and 32 MPG if I dont get on it but that's no fun. Fun car to drive I would buy again mabey next time a HHR Panel SS.
I drive Toyota's only, but this is the only Gm/Ford/Chryco that I would ever, in a million years, think about buying. It brings back memories of the 1954 panel truck I used to drive. This is the freshest thing GM has done in many years.
I have the Ecoboost Flex. A little bigger than the HHR, but in the same market. Curious how the HHR would compare to the Flex. Twin turbo 3.5 v6, awd, 0-60 in just about 5 seconds. Mine is a '13, 376 hp. Any comparison speed numbers? As I said, curious...
@VitaminE6SS 246 a month is nice, im just asking because my 1995 camaro might be acting up, and if i need an affordable car right away then i would go for an hhr, cos im a gm fan all the way, and the hhr is a pretty good car. i would want a gto but that might cost to much. but i would get an older hhr, if i get a newer hhr ss then i might as well just save up and get the 2010 camaro that i am eventually getting. sorry for the long reply lol
Rock the old ride! LOVE IT! Anything from the 80s is a COMPLETE death trap, but as long as you don't get in a bad wreck AWESOME! I have a 86 4x4 that costs me 50$ a month to insure. I keep it because I can't bare to toss it when it's perfectly good.
@305pride Just turned 47k and not a single problem! Still loving it as much as the day i got her! The tag on mine was 24k fully loaded, I traded in my 06 mazda3 and put 3k down and it took the price down to 16k! Not too bad. Oh and my payments are only 246 a month!
Well a 350 and an Ecotec are two totally different monsters. If you want torque and low end power, get the 350 and tune the hell out of it. The LT1 is an awesome engine as well. If you want high end performance, then the Ecotec is the engine for you. It isn't the smoothest, but it is by far the most tuneable four cylinder I have seen.
The panel one is hot, but can you take it on the Hyway, some states you need a little side window or its considered a commecial vehicle.,.I thought this car was ugly at first, but now Im considering it or a camaro, but I like the utility aspect. but only an ss, and does the SS come with a back seat? Anyways,. interesting car
i no that......the supercharrged cars were slow newayz.....but u i said y would u ever wanna supercharge a 2.4 and u said u had one...so do u have a reg hhr or did u put a supercharger in it...cuz u said it moves....
At least you want to do something (punching a baby). Looking at a Civic or a Cobalt makes me...not look at them because I didn't even notice them to begin with. I'm not saying I love this car, but with some performance to it, I think it's okay. really any block with wheels is okay these days if it moves and handles well. Even a Civic or Cobalt (Is it me or are Cobalts exactly like a slightly newer Cavalier. Those were lookers, Cavaliers)
yea sum ppl dont know what they are talking about their like the best engine u can get...like why get a 350 when u can get a ecotec 4 banger and get 1000hp
ur right, it's not THAT lopsided....i mean, it's basically a damn box with a great engine and transmission....i mean, shit, a couple hoodscoops and some wider wheels just would've made it look the part a little more like the caliber
13 year later most Calibers lying in a junk heap chassis rotted off HHR’s still going. From the owner of an absolute piece of shit 09 Caliber and a beautiful shape 08 HHR SS.
ugh. I sorta liked these until I sat in the driver's seat. they are not designed for anyone taller than about 6'0". I hate having to duck under the ROOFLINE to see out the front window. There's also not a lot of rear-ward visibility from the driver's seat either.
ha ha ha....ummm.... Did he just said the "spoiler" is to "reduce resistance" so it gets a "higher" top speed?? Does he even know what is a spoiler and what is the function of a spoiler?
Nice car, but lacks interest in the gen X market, I know the Cobalt is more geared towards that group but it lacks quality in the interior. Looks like Chevy is just going crazy with SS badges, whats next the Aveo SS?
y'know.. 6 seconds isn't that bad. It's not competative but it's not bad. I don't think even with the SS they meant for the hhr to be a sports car. And for the budget you shouldn't be comparing it to an evo, and a GT-R? come on, that's not even fair to the evo.
this is chevy's direct answer 2 dodge's caliber srt 4....both r small minivans, 0-60 times look similar and both will do over 150...in terms of power, styling, transmission, and even street cred, i think dodge claerly wins this 1 over chevy
While this video might be informative for auto journalists, I think putting "these old guys in suits" in front of the camera might just be turning away the younger demographic that the product intends to covet.
nainosaj, because you saw three Hondas on the side of the road you are judging their reliability as a whole? I see Chevys and Fords pulled over every day while on my commute, does that mean their unreliable? No, however reliability ratings for all domestics manufacturers are at an all time low. You're driving a ticking time bomb.
HAHAHA basically everything you said is wrong! Outrun? haha i would love to see your your civic go 150mph and 0-60 in 5.7 seconds.. Only and i repeat only way is with a 10k turbo kit and all the upgrades that go with it.. Second i would get over 400 miles to a tank. Civic cooler??? Maybe back in 1999 son, they're so old and out dated now. What you got 1.6 or 1.8? either way you're pushing no more than 110hp compared to 260hp.. Dream on kid
almost evrey muscle car ever build was a automatic is my 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS a chick car? but your right its a ugly car but i like this compact car more then a VW golf or a chrysler PT cruiser
who cares who he is... the point is to make it appealing for customers to buy the car. I don't buy it - I can't stand listening to him mumble some complete crap. The car is terrible.
well of course it is its own kind. so that means the s2000 is the fastest of its kind in the whole world as well, cuz thats it's only kind. either way that car is a piece of ass s***
I am trying to use insults that are appropriate for your educational and intellectual level. Want to make sure you understand, I know reading is very hard for you. And 10 grand a month minimum loser, for only 2-3 weeks work tops.
