I had a 2009 HHR with the 2.4L engine in it. I drove the crap out of it. It had 50,000 miles when I got it. Sold it almost 5 years later with 184,000 miles. I didn’t want to get rid of it, but the transmission had started to act up periodically. I did a lot of driving, so I didn’t want to risk it. But, it was a good car and I was meticulous with maintenance. Aside from some freak incidents and one auto accident, I never had any trouble with it. I would definitely own another one if I found one in good shape. I could haul all kinds of musical equipment in that thing too! It served me well! P.S. Love your channel Scotty!

Kilmer, I bought my 67 Camaro 3500SS in 1975! Just last month I had to replace the original radiator as it finally yielded up the ghost! I served in USCG and put 125,000 + miles on it and I have never walked away from it(IE-breakdown) I have meticulously maintained it- changing all fluids (even brake fluid) frequently! It still has original drive train and only rebuilt motor in 1978! Also put a 4.10 posi in the rear! Car even has original ball joints! Chevy's been making good cars a long time!

Sometimes it is not a matter of price, all water heater tanks (no tankless are) are made in Mexico and 95% are crap regardless of price; If you pay $3000 to Home Depot you will still get junk with plastic parts just like the furnace mentioned in another video, but if you go a professional supply house, or just hire a plumber, you can get one for $800-900 that is ALL metal parts. No planned failure. It is not a matter of cost, your premise is FALSE. Mexico used to make TVs, then Asia took away their market, same is happening with water heaters for new developments that can install a bigger meter, up north we need the 199,000 BTU versions which means you need a 350K meter if you have gas heat or anything other then a NG stove. I my case my furnace it just enough I can not use the stove of the water heater and furnace are both on so I had to stick with a all metal, for now. I did come into some money and may upgrade the meter for when the tank fails in a few decades.

I have a 2006 2.4L HHR and i love it! Lots of room esp when you need to bring bigger things home, the backseats fold down. I also love the passenger front seat folds flat with a hard top which makes eating in the car not so bad. I even did the "van life" in mine and since that front seat folded flat it was the perfect bed size to sleep in. I even bought an extra trunk tray to hold more things up top in 2 trunk organizers and still had all the space below as well . Is the perfect car so far. I bought a 2008 HHR LT2 about a month ago with 102,800 miles on it. I can tell it was well maintained because it's not all beat up and the interior looks just about new. I bought it to use as a weekend car camper, among other things. The back seats fold flat, so it's easy to put a foam pad in the back to sleep on. According to the carfax report, the ignition switch, a common problem on the HHR, was replaced at about 60,000 miles, so that's done.

Yes, if you are In canada you also have a 999,000 warranty on the power steering steering motor ( go to gm site and run your vin it will be there have to look for it thou.) which I also know for a fact (motor book) factory edition it does state that they are to be replaced *together) one will not work properly without the other but DAMM GM WILL NOT REPLACE BOTH. they will always only replace the p/s motor. and with mine it was replaced at only 3,600 kmh you never hear of the steering column having to be replaced on a brand new car this was just plain crap but it is what it is. I have fought with GM over this and all I ever got was ( HOW FAR DO I WANT TO GO) Meaning how much $ do I want to spend on their crap mistake. but they win each time. And yes I have also has the ign replaced early on with this car.

My daughter has one she bought with 80k for $3800 in 2019 from a Ford dealer that grabbed it before the shop sent it to auction cause the salesman knew she was in her last year of college. I drove it and had a mechanic check it. It was great, and surprised me. She loves it. Yes her signal stalk stopped autocancelling too. It's similar to a Saturn Vue and the Equinox....using the Cobolt platform. It is spunky, comfortable, and very pleasant to drive. I see one every day I'm out on the road, and for a 25 year old Chevy niche car-van that is strange.

Underpowered with slushbox trannies in them. He did like the Chevy better, but they cost THOUSANDS more than the PT. My first one had 180,000 when I got it. I sold it after 300,000 after driving it hard. Still ran perfect. Bought another one and I am now at 180,000 with it. Most common issues are plastics, rubber, O2 sensors, valve cover gasket, lower control arm bushings, some can develope an exhaust leak from a cracked manifold, belt tensioner, brakes and other little things. They are very easy to work on, and all of that stuff is inexpensive to replace for the most part. Cobalt, Pontiac g5 and hhr are all the same platform. Just swapped the rear beam out from a G5 GT with rear disks. Brakes way better! Love these cars

Inherited a 2011 one from my mother, 145,000 miles…most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Very practical, snappy acceleration, great in snow. I put Duralube in all my engines, so I expect the engine will outlast the car. It’s a great vehicle!

My HHR has almost 300,000 miles on it and it's needed almost nothing... The alternator finally went out on it. But before that, it started right up faster than any car in the driveway and ran better than most the newer cars in the driveway.

I had an HHR. Many electronic problems. It was corrosion on the body control module connector. Many HHR’s have this problem. Chevrolet Corporate denies the problem exists. Ultimately, through stupidity, I totaled it. I don’t miss it.

I bought my HHR new in 2007. Over 193k and still driving it everyday. The oil change place tried to kill it. Like you recommend I change my oil now. You don't have to jack it up to do it. I use a oil pump that you pump by hand. The dipstick hole is huge so you're done in 10 to 15 pumps. The cartridge filter is on the top. It's running a lot better now!

I bought the first model year 2006 Chevy HHR LT and had fun driving the car but the low-profile Firestone Firehawk tires picked up nails and easily got damaged from small potholes, The front rotors warped at 10k miles, ( Chevy dealer would only resurface the front rotors and I would have to return often for the same issue ) and I had to replace the Rear right brake lamp several times. Unfortunately, I grow tired of Chevrolet's repair nonsense and at 18k I traded it away for a 06 Honda Ridgeline.

i got a 2006 chevy HHR, pretty good vehicles. I noticed that the suspension system is pretty weak and often needs work. also the alloy wheels are cheaper grade alloy and often need replacement rims, go aftermarket and be done with it. I bought 5 star replacement alloy rims from firestone and they are tough, matched with goodyear reliant tires 17 inch. Moon roof problems and altermator issues, but nothing major. I think mine is going to need a timing chain and gear at 185k but all in all its a fairly reliable car. oh and interior door handles break and fobs have battery connection problems, needs a solder point. g

The point is not everything is bad or good in Mexico as well as any country. They've been improving a lot on quality, even though it's not close to Japan, even China has some quality products.

Coworker has an HHR pushing 300k. Runs great and has very little rust. I believe it’s a 2007. I think they look neat. I don’t understand the “panal van” style line. The ones made to look like panal van, just don’t make sense. There are no rear door handles on the exterior of the car and no windows. If you want to open the rear door and don’t have a passenger in the rear, you have to open the front door and reach in to open the back door from the inside. PT cruisers are much more abundant then HHR’s in my area. I would buy either one to have as a spare.

I agree with you about anything designed and built by Chrysler. My brother and I spent thousands of dollars in repairs on Chryslers and Jeeps with less than 150k miles - HVAC, trannys, differentials …. Now that Chrysler and Fiat are “brother and sister” we can expect great employment security for repair shop employees. Now we only drive Honda and Subaru cars.
